STOP. AUTO-STARTING. QUESTS.
I despise the fact that after over 5 years, the devs haven’t been able to figure out a way for us to choose if we wanna start a quest.
I fkn hate when I wanna enter a new region just to farm some mats and unlock teleport points and the game decides “no, no, no, it’s time for you to do a random ass quest”.
There’s not even a skip and recap button so if u wanna speedrun it, you either have to spam spacebar and hope it’s short. Or you have to stop what you wanna do and do a quest you never wanted to do.
I’ve done some Unity coding and I don’t think it’s that hard to add a proximity toggle. If there’s already a proximity auto-start, then just add a fkn toggle

Like can we just play how *we* want to?? I don't wanna be dragged into a quest or told what to do unprompted lmao
I have no idea how to interact with anything in Sumeru.
And there’s a certain irony to an open world game which is supposed to encourage freedom and exploration… trying to not let you explore by forcing you to watch auto started cutscenes or complete tasks from auto started quests which prevent you from doing some other stuff until it’s done.
A lot of modern open world gachas take inspiration from Genshin, now they really need to do the same, especially with QOL stuff...
Then after they mash through the initial text and then come back to it later, they’ve forgetten what it was about.
Terrible game design.
This in turn makes me miss details about the quest if I wanna continue it later on, making me not care at all anymore worst case
I exclusively play open world. I hate this shit.
Not really the end of the world, but annoying I guess.
Collected nearly all the waypoints except for the sinister looking one. At least I wasnt dragged and locked into the main story quest upon logging in.
The idea is to make it natural andd in-world but I feel like a quest marker on their heads should be enough, not auto-starting
(not at you ofc)
(*facepalms at Hoyo*)
Also even if it DID happen invulnerability would not change all that much
Seems dev really don't give a shit about opinion of normal players.
sadly i only remember that part of that the map as "where chasca's flowers grow"
But the bigger issue is that I think this quest literally starts...and then very early on it just goes for like 3-4 hours....without stopping. There's no breaks. Internet disconnect or needing to quit is a rollback of like 20 minutes in some parts.
I remember stumbling completely by accident into the original Jhet quest. And it was so god damn long and long winded I ended up pretty quickly just spamming skip through the whole thing. It was so tedious that even to this day I have not started any of the next quest in that big Storm area of Sumeru, or the other area past it.
I also ended up doing it through a lot of the Aranara quest as well.
I used to like them until it became the norm to constantly force them upon me when I just want to do some exploration, gathering materials, doing dailies or *doing other quests*.
Sometimes I just have a few minutes and just want to get some materials. Then I have to spam click through the quests that auto-triggered. If I ever come back to it (or auto-trigger the next part...) I don't remember what it was about anyway. So how should I even care about its story?
I feel like the auto-starting quests happen way more frequently than in the past. No idea if it's true or it just feels like it though.
There was some shit at the Columbina statue near the Fatui base. Dunno what it was, I rushed through it so I could *unlock the map*. That's it.
Didn't do the WQ for weeks later and totally forgot what I was doing.
Quests take hours. Both story quests and major world quests are substantial time commitments to the point where many people are unlikely to get through everything in one sitting. I'll usually find time on a weekend or something to sit down and knock out an hour or two of story content when I can sit and focus on what's going on.
Meanwhile, I'm heavily encouraged to keep up with my daily/weekly/monthly content and general progression. Resin usage, events, weekly bosses, endgame stuff (SO/IT/SA), etc. I'm encouraged to farm for materials to use my new characters, and if I have any random chunk of 15 minutes on a random day to play, I'd much rather spend that time exploring areas (something I can put down whenever I need to) than doing scripted story content.
So why do I get jumpscared by story content when trying to do my daily/routine stuff? If I'm sitting on the toilet burning resin before work, do you really think jumpscaring me with a quest when I try to turn in commissions is going to improve my experience? Do you think I'm going to *not* skip the dialogue in that conversation? Do you think I'm going to actually *remember* what's going on when I inevitably go back and do that quest properly?
Heck, last patch was over the holidays so I was super busy. Minute one of the story content for last patch was a quest counter jumpscare in Nod Krai that also disabled the quest counter until you went and did a bunch of cutscenes. Well, given I was super busy for the holidays, it took me weeks for an opportunity to sit down and actually start knocking out the cutscenes for the story which meant *I couldn't use the quest counter in Nod Krai for most of the month of December*! I never would have started the quests until I had time to do them, but the quests started themselves!
"Hey, let me go unlock that artifact domain...get a few flowers that are fucking timegated for some reason..."
PAIMON ENTERS THE GAME
"Howabout we explore that place later?"
Though it not really effective and more rage inducing.
But Hoyo is the one that has real stats so who know, since they keep doing it, then maybe it does work on some people.
You collect other player's flowers in another world. He will collect yours.
I like this game,i really do,but being locked in a 4 hours quest while you trying to explore e collect things is not fun. It makes me wanna play less knowing is become worse with new updates...
I used to play a ton of Black Desert Online, a Korean MMO. One of the classes (Berserker) was incredibly strong for multiple years and they kept buffing it again and again which caused a lot of players on NA, EU and RU servers to voice complaints, it wasn't fun to have the devs mandate your guild war compositions and to lose out on 40% more loot by using another class.
The reason they did it? On the KR server Berserkers usage rate was incredibly low because it looked ugly and didn't have a lot of cosmetics that the Koreans liked. The KR community subsequently didn't complain as nobody wanted to play the ugly class so it being OP wasn't an issue.
After about 3-4 years of this it got powercrept by other classes and I guess the devs just kind of gave up on making Zerk popular since it's not that strong anymore compared to the new classes, who all very much look like Kpop stars, they learned their lesson. Zerks usage rate on KR remains in the mud.
What the KR community did complain about was open world PvP and PKers, which subsequently got tackled hard by the devs and the game that was originally marketed as free for all open world PvP now let's you opt out of PvP completely, letting you harass players while being invulnerable to any and all retaliation. This was something the EU and NA communities weren't complaining about, and it resulted in much of the PvP and high end guild scene withering and dying to a large extent on the servers.
TLDR: They complain, they just have different priorities. Their priorities can (often) be deduced by what the devs end up doing, or by grabbing a translator and hopping to their side of the internet.
They are essentially incentivizing us to spam skip the dialog when they gate rewards behind doing it quickly
Good times.
That seems like the easiest possible solution to this and I have no idea why they won't do it. Just put an object with a ! over it in the world near where the world quest will start. Players will know interacting with the object will start a quest, so they can avoid it if they don't want to start the quest right now.
The functionality is literally already part of the game! Why on earth won't they use it???
When you do the Luna VI Questline and decide to quit out of story mode before finishing it all up, you get that very same "object" placed in the world and you have to interact with it to continue.
Quests should only be started intentionally.
also Skip Button please. Why tf Genshin the only Hoyo game without a skip button, and afaik the only gacha game without it.
FFS I WANNA UNLOCK THE WHOLE @$$ MAP NOT START 485839758592749595837373+ FLIPPING QUESTS!
I swear having Katherine disabled in nod krai for two weeks because i started a quest but actually have, you know, a fucking life, just angered me so much
Why do you even play the game?
/s
I'm still not halfway through natlan (I play very infrequently and in short bursts), hell, I haven't even done all the monstadt/liyue 1.0 quests. And I have so, so many little side quests I've forgotten all the context for because I'm trying to do one specific thing and the game keeps yanking me in them.
It's like, when I was unlocking areas in natlan and it breaks my neck whipping the camera around to try and say 'hey look at this!' I DONT CARE
Fuck I started like four quests just going straight for the statues in nod krai. And imma be real hoyo... I ain't gonna be getting to nod krai for another year at least.
For the love of god, just mark them when we're close and let us start them manually. Stop playing cutscenes or free-roam dialogue from proximity
Especially that one which triggers above the pool of lava. Mid fucking jump.
I come back from a long hiatus for genshin, and I get a quest triggering as soon as I log back in that's related to events further ahead from my actual story progression. and it even has objectives in regions i haven't even gotten to yet. so WTF. Not allowing a player the agency of choosing when to engage in a quest is a turn off... especially when MY time is limited and I wanted to do SOMETHING ELSE that isn't the quest that I'm automatically forced in.
And one about which I complain on just about every survey.
Seriously, HSR, ZZZ, and WuWa all have skip buttons now. Genshin doesn't have a good excuse anymore.
It's absolutely shoddy UX design. It's shocking they still have so many glaring issues that create way more friction than needed, particularly when they're issues solved in their other games.
Plus yeah, the character/location is involved in another quest?? That you made me auto start earlier? Well damn. 🙄
sorry but no matter the circumstance, people saying things like this never fails to make me laugh. there’s a massive difference between “doing some unity coding” and being a part of a large studio developing a game on the scale of genshin lol
Auto-starting quests kills my vibe, be that doing any other quest or just exploring, and makes me skip through the dialogue, and then makes me not remember the quest outside of it being annoying.
While *sneaking* into the Akademiya in Sumeru during the Archon Quest, in FSM, I entered range of a World Quest with a trigger spanning half the room and it triggered and the Traveler just walks up as if nothing else is going on.
The best comparison I can make is that auto-triggers feels like mid-episode *ads* for other shit I dont care about right now.
How hard is it for Hoyo to just make an exclaimation mark above NPC's and then trigger the quest opening cutscene when I interact with them? I genuinely dont care if the cutscene warps me backwards 20 meters to walk into the camp or whatever situation it is. Make world events happen like the volcano in Natlan erupting and then give me a marker for the quest NPC to start the quest but dont force me into it just by walking past!
Also I feel like the trigger span for these quests get bigger and bigger, especially for big quests. Like I have to do a really big circle around any kind of quest marker on the map because if I only get 20m in-game distance close to it, I get sucked I to it
BOOM
I DID NOT JUST CRASH INTO 5 DIFFERENT QUESTS WHEN I WAS RUNNING QUITE FAR AWAY FROM YOU QUEST MARKERS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
If you are going to put a new released characters mats in a new region, give us the courtesy of being able to farm for it in peace. I would enjoy the other quests more if I can give my full attention when I am ready, not automatically thrust into it.
Spamming keys don't even do much anymore because I need to wait until they're finished with some tiny animation movements before I can skip their text. It's super annoying
