The first time I thought Paimon didn't feel like an NPC was in Sumeru. Until then, she felt like a brat with a high-pitched voice, and I was finding myself saying "shut up, Paimon". Now, I feel a strong attachment to her. It is a weird journey looking back.

I blame the EN voice actor and direction, she's a lovely character beloved in CN, JP and KR fanbases but Paimon's EN voice irks a lot of people and fair enough, there were several times where she just souded shrill
It was fine in the beggining of game since it was initially softer sounding, but Inazuma, Sumeru and Fontaine were terrible, especially considering the fact that she talks in our place grand majority of the time
Thank goodness it got better in Nod Krai with the traveler speaking more, can't say much for natlan since I played in EN and so many were mute lol, except of course Paimon

The dialogue direction got a lot better in sumeru where I still hate Paimons va but as a character I got a lot more attached then taking a break from main story to do Durins story the new VA is a breath of fresh air and made me look forward to getting through squeaky paimon

JP voice doesn't irk me but no you're wrong, this is not just about voice direction, it's about Paimon interjecting too much and repeating things that have been said. Nod-Krai is only good because they have been benching her, which is nice, but would also be nice if she didn't interject as much when she's participating, or if she's gonna interject it's not to make the situation worse.

I think her writing improved a lot lately. She's more like her own person now instead of just an annoying mascot that just repeats everything and speaks instead of the Traveler. This and her previous English VA made me hate Paimon so much. But she's alright now. She'll never be my favorite but I'm actually fine with her now.
The only other wish I have regarding Paimon is that they also let the Traveler speak for themselves more. I don't like it when someone asks the Traveler a question but Paimon is the only one who replies. At least they don't make her decide everything for the Traveler anymore. There was a time when Paimon wasn't only the one answering but also the one deciding. Now she often asks the Traveler first or at least considers their opinion.

Paimon’s strongest character trait has always been her compassion. Not greed or gluttony. One of Paimon’s best moments was when Jakob offered us a massive amount of Mora if we would steal Mamere’s paintings for him. We didn’t know Mamere for very long, but Paimon immediately refused. Didn’t even pretend to consider Jakob’s offer.

Jokes aside, I personally think hate on paimon because she has the largest communication voice in genshin, that people get tired of it, especially for voice that repetitive like "why don't we explore this later". The hate comes from the voice itself, it's not to say that the va fault, but the old voice definitely voice that you get tired to hear after long period of time.

I feel like her voice was my biggest problem for a long while. She has plenty of endearing moments, especially from Sumeru onwards, but her shrill English voice was like nails on a chalkboard for me. IMO her new English VA has gone a long way towards making her feel less annoying.

I feel like the former VA is definitely part of the reason people grew to hate her. Ear-gratey voice in the opinion of many, awful person IRL, it was very very easy to view Paimon in a very negative light. I remember when I first started playing (~2.3/2.4), the vast majority of the complaints I saw were always "her voice is so irritating" of just something to do with her voice. If they had a better VA casted for her from the very beginning, I think people wouldn't have been nearly as polarized with Paimon
