Unpopular opinion, Paimon is a good friend and I like her
Sorry.. I'm tired of pretending and becoming the true yapper after yapping every week about how much I/we dislike Paimon's yapping etc.
I genuinely like her and always liked her. I know that gacha games tend to have this somewhat annoying fairy, AI or whatever companion guiding you and dumping exposition, and I get where the criticism comes from.
But now that Traveler is voiced more often? Idk. I'm actively trying to hate, but can't do it anymore, she's just too sweet and wholesome.
Semi-joking of course, I know that many people probably don't think she's THAT bad, just thought about it after seeing her reactions in this Archon Quest (no spoilers).
I'm a 1.0 player and the first time I genuinely thought that she's a good bean was during the first Lantern Rite. That was the update where we meet the sibling for the very first time and your Traveler was all down and beaten, almost crying. Paimon pats your head, understands you, is really sweet and tells you that we'll eventually visit Lantern Rite Festival with our sibling together in the future and we can all just have a lot of fun together. I even got a bit defensive around that time lol because I was in a rough spot irl and Paimon hate was at an all time high while I just thought that she's Traveler's best friend.
I even think that the yapping on the side and exposition dumping/reacting for the Traveler is just kinda funny, in-character for her (I know it's also just an excuse to have someone talk for "us") and probably makes the Traveler smile and roll their eyes at the same time!

However, I’m sure the new VA for Paimon is a very lovely woman and I wish great things for her! Hoping I get used to it soon because I also am a Paimon fan and it really sucked when I suddenly started skipping Paimon lines bc the new VA throws me off a bit. Again, wish the new VA absolutely nothing but the best and I really hope she does not receive ANY hate from the community because she does not deserve that!!
I no longer need to run a script to mute the game due to her high-pitched screeching.
But also Im with OP. I like Piamon... except when she tells me I cant explore the area ahead
>!I really adore how much Paimon was looking out for Traveler, even when she was desperately missing him, she still wanted to make sure he was healthy if and when he returns back safely.!<
Nobody trusts Traveler more than paimon. Not even his sibling.
They are an amazing duo. I shed some tears at the Natlan AQ when the sacred flame went out, and then the chanting begun, and when Mavuika came vrooming out of the night kingdom with Traveler, the hug between Paimon and Traveler was such a wholesome sight. Reminds me of the time when Traveler went outside the boundaries of Nilou's dream samsara and Paimon was in a panic and frenzy worrying over him.
Paimon would go into major depression if Traveler ever abandons her, but I doubt that will ever happen. Among the most meaningful characters to Traveler, it's his sibling followed by Paimon, if not equal ranking.
Hoyo over work their VA /s
I think she's starting to shine more in Natlan quest (also a little in act 2 Sumeru when traveler disappear from dream)
but if anything happened to her i would kill all the 4 shades then myself
and then by the time we’ve left the only two regions she knows she’s already bonded with us and wants to stay with us on our journey
I am glad the traveller is speaking more though.
The complaints about the old VA being screachy were valid, but I never minded it that much. I do, however, appreciate the more mellowed out approach from the new VA more.
My personal favorite Paimon moment is actually during Sumeru when she gets separated from Traveler and she starts freaking out. The game does an excellent job bringing the player into the belief that she really is your best friend. She's basically useless as a guide, which just makes even more endearing to me. Thats just my gal on a journey with me.
I'm glad they recasted the voice, this one is much better.
Honestly as someone who has never liked Paimon, i have found that I’ve tolerated her more in the Nod Krai patch and that’s because it feels like she’s been featured and talked so much less.
*"She breaks up the monotony."*
I can’t wait for us to get some Paimon lore, things are gonna go absolutely bonkers when we start learning about her properly.
However if you've been here since the beginning, you'll know that a large minority has always been vocally hateful of Paimon due to her voice, or how her script is written, and how they believe Traveler doesnt speak at all because Paimon gets all the lines.
It just goes to show that a loud minority can seem like majority because most people cannot be arsed to write shit online like terminally online people will when they want to hate on something.
Even now people like OP are affected by this because they think its some unpopular opinion to say Paimon is a good friend when Paimon is literally the mascot of the game and written to be your loving companion.
One she spoke for traveler as you said this has been mostly fixed fot NK
Two she kinda majority of the time chooses for us if there is any option to side with bad guy she'll just ask us to stop joking etc.
1) They pretty much wanted to cheap out on having to dub 2 Travelers in all languages which is IIRC 4? So 8 Travelers in total compare to 4 Paimons.
2) Telltale type of story writing. Sure we have "options" during the dialogue, but at the end of the day we all reach the same ending, no matter what options we picked. But as someone who already played a tons of Telltale Games I was prepared for this since the beginning. As I really don't think there is a game which is really that different. It always comes to resources at the end of the day, and no one wants to waste a lots of money for 1% people experiencing it, even if those 1% would love it a lot. Hmmm... When I think about it. Maybe Baldur's Gate 3?
I can't blame them, u gotta understand that Genshin attracts all kinds of gamers, people that play Elden Ring or Stardew Valley, all kinds of people might have interest in an open world action rpg.
So seeing the main character being a mute while a little fairy constantly speaks and tells you what to do, doesn't help the case.
Maybe there is some truth in the hate Paimon gets. True, there might be people hating just to be hateful for something they read online. But imagine a game like God of War, Horizon or Cyberpunk with a character like Paimon as the MC, I'm sure they would get hate for that too.
Helps too that the traveler is getting their own voice a little more so she's not entirely overstaying her welcome quite so much.
but do i want someone like that beside me 24/7? not in a billion years.
personally i dislike clingy character no matter how close we are personal space must be top priority and paimon ignore that.
She got better, but she was never bad, just... Really a tool for the dev to highlight highly important info, and the traveler actually talking helps make their banter sibling-like, instead of paimon talking into the void
Otherwise yeah she’s improved a lot in nod Krai now that traveler is speaking and can be alone with characters without paimon. Makes paimon’s lines more meaningful.
Do you play in English or did you end up switching to another language?
Hoyo simply suck at writing protagonist
No matter how much I dislike the fact that she's talking for us, I did tear up a little at Paimons reaction in the Luna VI story quest.
She has always been the best companion. She might be loud, but it only annoys you until you see her fall silent. She is the kindest heart and is brave to protect and care for traveler, despite her own helplessness.
I remember stumbling upon a random post once, where they imagined what characters would text traveler upon finding out about their death. There were sad ones, but the last one was Paimon who I didn't even expect, and it made me sob badly for half an hour. Just the thought of her losing her only close person, the one she's 24/7 with.
I'm a sentimental person in nature, and many things can make me shed a tear even if not exactly sad, but seeing Paimon worry for traveler or getting upset about their separation, oh it genuinely breaks my heart every time. They're her entire life.
I've finished new archon quest today, and there's many things that capture attention, but that scene where everyone comes back without traveler... I think
about it the most. Sometimes it's good to know Genshin is more of a fairytale for kids - they will never separate traveler and Paimon for real.
Then why the other Shades didn't know about this plan? Maybe it's because HP already planned this secretly with Asmoday because she's the only one worthy to make sacrifice herself to be able reborn after intense battle with Twins and became Paimon (Like Nahida situation) to be able guide us and humble us to become a new Celestia
I AM ALWAYS CHOOSING PAIMON.
She's no longer screeching and yelling all the time and it feels like shes back to how she was in the beginning
Also with traveller getting more voice lines (I play as Lumine) it's actually really wholesome when they chat because it actually feels like they've been friends for a long time instead of Paimon doing the talking for both of them
At the end of the day: Huge misplay on HoYo's part.
