A good conclusion his story and punishment for his actions.
Spoilers for Nod-krai Act 7 and 8. It's revealed that Rerir along side the ghost of Tholindis, they are forever trapped in the moon's reflection inside the moon gate. It essential acts as an eternal prison for his actions in the genocide of the people of the crimson moon dynasty, which included several uninvolved innocent men, women and children. It's also revealed that the Abyss was largely responsible for driving Rerir to become what he is now, and ramming up his emotions which is something the Abyss is known to do, just like with Apep. Preying on your weakness and driving you to anger. Now, he's gain clarity of mind, with the Abyss no longer controling him. But, however tragic Rerir's backstory is, he still killed people and being trapped forever with no escape feels like the perfect punishment for him.
The most tragic character in all of this is Tholindis, who was also controlled by the Abyss, and in conformed to be long dead after going through the moon gate. Only an afterimage, a ghost is left in the moon's reflection, with Rerir acknowledging that she's already gone.
I really think this is the best possible conclusion to Rerir's story, a perfect punishment, cuz anything less after what he did would be very divisive.

I'd say that's an even more fitting end for these two.
Tholinde dissolved with that space, but our little Rächer is still immortal (courtesy of Ronova).
Is he just floating in space? Stuck in an even emptier emptiness?
Or is a space that's been created by Nibelung effectively overriding a "mere shade's" authority?
obviously, rerir is much, MUCH guiltier than his fiancee, but the fact that tholindis really only acted during the cataclysm is a great way to show that she is not as innocent as she seems. nod krai was the single best nation in terms of storytelling, damn...
I can empathize with the pain he had to endure, even while I cannot ever condone or agree with any of the actions he made. I like flawed characters that make me think.
While I do feel pity for them, I can't say that the two didn't bring this upon themselves as their sins are their own. I just hope they one day find peace after everything they've done and that Rerir in the future can have a chance to atone for his sins properly after all we all gave Hat Guy a chance and he has spent ever day making up for his actions and has never disappointed us
Yes, genocide is among the worst crimes imaginable - but even the worst finite crime doesn't equal infinity. I'm not trying to minimize what he has done i just want to acknowledge that the math's doesn't add up. Still its a good tragic ending befitting Rerir.
If the dimension is gone after the 3 moon sisters went kapoot then all of this is a moot point but still worth thinking about i think.
I should also clarify that this argument would make readers uncomfortable as im essentially questioning whether his and by extension Tholindis's punishment should be limited. I think it would be fruitful to consider the nuance of determining punishment for those who have committed even the worst atrocities. That being said i can see why OP would say this is the perfect punishment, perfectly understandable.
