Is it just me, or did time gating the Selenic Chronicles hurt our emotional bond with Columbina?”

I’ve just finished the Archon Quest, and although I’m glad I can finally play the Selenic Chronicles, I wish they hadn’t had such a long cooldown or been locked away for so long. Playing them now makes her feel distant and cold, especially compared to how she’s portrayed later in the game.

As adamant I am of them waiting until we have seen all of the Archons before they even consider giving proper designs to The Shades, even I'm not that needlessly harsh on them. Plus this makes sense given the narrative behind Columbina going missing after Act 6.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I was mostly hoping the cooldowns were shorter in general, but last patch they locked the quest before I even started it, which felt pretty unfair. I really wish I could’ve done more of the Chronicles before continuing the Archon Quest. I thought finishing Acts V and VI would unlock it, but… yeah, no :/

I don’t even know what the selenic chronicles do? Every single time I go there to check, I’m still stuck at the same part. Like I genuinely have no idea what im supposed to be doing?

It was pretty confusing for me for a while too. I checked often, but there was no progress. However, I think it should be easier to spot when it’s ready now. I think they show it in the top left. I’m not sure when they added it, but it feels like a nice improvement.

Didn’t help I was a couple weeks behind with them so she’s like way out of sync now. I’ve just done 5/6 on the second tier.

I have to agree here. It really does feel very disjointed going from the Archon Quest to whatever Selenic Chronicle you're on. Even from the tone of her voice, it felt like I had just undone her entire character arc. I can't imagine how new players will feel doing the entire Archon Quest just to be stuck on the 2nd or 3rd segment where Columbina hardly knows us.

It would have been fine if the time gating was smaller, but with the way it was done you could barely afford to miss a week each time, so since the patch drops mid week and not everyone does the AQ day one, a lot of "up to date" people didn't finish those.

But hey tell that to the company that made an entire character's story tied to a temporary event that happened two years before its release and now has direct impacts on the main quest.

Hoyo designs their story for "live" players these days, which sucks because it makes it harder and harder to answer positively to "is it still worth starting the game in current year posts". Before, we could say that starting late just means having a more complete story in one go. Now, starting late means missing out on important information and having a worse quest experience overall because apparently time gating is a gameplay feature now.

Handled absolutely poorly, which is putting it nicely.

It didn't have any sort of big notification beforehand, so I forgot to do them all the time and I only just did the quest with the tic-tac-toe

Me too! Even in the tutorial they explain it so vaguely: *‘You can visit Silvermoon Hall from time to time to meet the Damselette.’* They could have said something like that it resets every week or something. I feel like they made it so you have to log in every day and check if you don’t want to miss it. But that’s with the knowledge that it will be unavailable in the future. Maybe they thought it was just a bonus thing you can do.
