if you're new you'd want more characters than constellations

Constellations improve characters, but unless you want to play high difficulty endgame content, you don't need it. To play the story and normal bosses in the open world, all you need is a character well leveled and equiped. You're also a new player, so you should be getting more options of characters to use than focusing on a single one.

In case you wish to get Constellations at some point in the future, most people that do get up to only 1 or 2 Constellations.

For me I want to get more constellation because of cosmetics. Her moon wheel gets shooting stars when she gets to C6. That's damn beautiful.

Then again usage wise, you dont usually need to up your constellations unless you want them to be super strong (usually for dps characters). Some supports do recommend C1 or 2.

This completely depends on what you want to get from the game.

As u/Gold_Pineapple7644 puts perfectly below, multiple pulls/constellations for 5-star characters can really enhance their power, but if you are either a) playing casually or b) focusing on story, you won't necessarily feel the benefit as much.

I personally never constellation 5-stars as a F2P account since I find collecting a wider variety to be more satisfying. I also have lore reasons for doing so. In the process of pulling a variety of 5-stars, I've managed to C6 several 4-stars and those I've felt the benefit from.

Something else you should consider as a new player is whether or not you wish to have new regions thematically "spoiled" for you by going to that region to farm character and talent ascension materials. If you pull hard for Columbina and choose to invest in her, then you'll be spending a lot of time in a region that is somewhat visually spoiler-y just trying to get her mats.

Don't let that discourage you though - your playstyle is your choice, and let no one dissuade you. :) Best of luck and have fun!

Definitely get more different characters > Constellations for new players

Better to pull for more characters instead of stacking constelations on one, especially when you just stared. If you really want to pull more niw - get Ineffa. She and Columbina are a powerful duo.

I tend to get 1 character and maybe the weapon if I really like it. You can get more constellations but I usually don’t.  Teams and new characters happen every few months and the old characters aren’t in use 

Constellations are rarely the way to go for new accounts. When you start you benefit more from having enough diversity in your characters to be able to deal with any content that may expect specific elements or mechanics.

Once you start having enough coverage for most situations, then it can be interesting to look at constellations, but even then it's mostly to improve characters you really like.

In Columbina's case, her abilities are designed in a way that very much want her to be paired with other Lunar-centric characters (Ineffa, Lauma, Flins, Nefer, Zibai), so constellations are of little value if you don't have one of these other characters to pair with her in the first place. Her constellation 1 may be a 10% increase on her damage, but it's a 10% increase over 30% of her potential because the last 70% is locked behind having teammates you don't have (numbers pulled out of my ass for the sake of the example).

In this banner, if you have more wishes left, I'd recommend getting Ineffa instead of more copies of Columbina, the two combined will be a huge improvement whereas even multiple constellations of columbina would fail to reach that same level if she is on her own.

Only if you REALLY like a character.

When youre new, you want to have some amount of options to deal with different content so while focusing on a single character and their copies may result on a strong team, you usually need more than one for endgame stuff.

Im an 1.0 f2p player who got c6 Furina(so 7 copies) because she is my lady, my goat and deserves everything but that made me skip Neuvillette, Mavuika, Arle, basically all natlan and some reruns cuz it took me three banners of her to get her c6, some may say it wasnt worth it but then again, I kept getting all the primogems from endgame so... Yeah

For now, get different teams that dont overlap units much then when youre able to clear all the stuff that gives you primos then you can think about giving some... Gifts for those few that you really enjoy using.

Oh and ignore the weapon banner.

You move on unless you are aiming for a specific 4 star character early cons (c1 or c2 4 star character)
But it’s never a good idea to go for 5 star cons unless you are a huge spender on the game
