He might be one of the reasons there's a danger sign in front of a crocodile enclosure in the zoo.
rW0HgFyxoJhYka2026-01-15 09:57
I mean you dont really need to rinse and relather twice with shampoo. Especially if you shower everyday. Most people hair dont get that oily or dirty that it requires 2 shampoos.
Leif-Erikson942026-01-15 09:38
To be fair, i just assumed that it'll either fail if i go through with it, Traveler refuses regardless of my choice, or something forces it to activate anyway.
Either way, because every single choice up to that point in the game was *literally meaningless*, i was conditioned to assume it'll be the same here too.
And in a way, it's still meaningless, because the cutscene will literally loop until you refuse. And the fact that you can't even skip any of that makes it all the more infuriating.
It's bullshit game design, plain and simple.
Orangelemonyyyy2026-01-15 08:45
In my defense, I chose to activate it the first time out of harmless curiosity. No malice nor going apeshit involved.
ArayaxSoul2026-01-15 09:14
That's literally Dottore's mindset, its all "curiosity". Just an "experiment", nothing more.
Orangelemonyyyy2026-01-15 09:28
Also in my defense, I felt 'guilty' after doing it (in quotes because it's just a video game). Dottore could never.
starmadeshadows2026-01-15 09:14
I've been working my way through that quest chain with Durin as my lead party member, and like... I think if he *didn't* want to cause Third Impact at least a tiny bit after that, I'd be a little worried for him
floricel_1122026-01-15 09:26
Ngl, I GENUINELY wanted this to be an actual choice like with the dragon device just to see how many people would pick the "join Dottore" option
Me personally? I went on a revenge spree with ALL of his ops. Diluc and Kaeya? Scaramouche? Layla? COLLEI?! You get your revenge. You get your revenge. EVERYBODY GETS THEIR REVENGE!
SopmodTew2026-01-15 09:59

floricel_1122026-01-15 10:02

Ironexeption2026-01-15 09:28
This many? The fudge. I flipped at that dragon the second i got the chance and went to save my Lumine.
ThinkLettuces2026-01-16 00:38
The choice is important because you get to see the self-doubt of the dragon (Kukulkan) that tore him between his brother and humanity: If you choose to activate the machine he expresses regret since he actually chose to stop the machine in the past (the hero lives long enough to become the dragon...), and if you choose to stop the machine he manifests his brother's desperation to save his people.
In the end it is revealed it was him that delivered your little companion to you all the way back at the forest, so it could learn to love the world and not hate it.
Your final answer removes all doubt from him and he passes way content with your chosen path.
It's peak.

so it was moreso out of curiosity an "experiment" you may.
TwilightVulpine2026-01-15 14:28
Well, technically it isn't the Traveler who's deciding on that one.
AlkaliPineapple2026-01-15 06:44
Like only a quarter of it was that. "Oh, you can find the truth and get your siblings back now."
...
"And also you can kill. Did I say that you can kill whoever you want? And also think about it, what are your friends for? Wouldn't you wanna kill anyone you want?"
I honestly thought Traveler would say yes to getting their sibling back lol
Korbiter2026-01-15 07:02
I think that moment was the closest the Traveler came to cracking, like they actually considered what Dottore was saying, if perhaps they could even get a chance to get the sibling to explain themselves.
Then Dottore fucking blew it by going mask-off sociopathic again, and then the Traveler backed off real fast, remembering that it is indeed *Dottore*
The man almost could've had everything, but just couldn't resist showing off his wrongness

TwilightVulpine2026-01-15 14:30
Tempting for Traveler, but I'm sure it'd be a monkey paw wish anyway. Even if we got it, our Sibling would never forgive us for it.
Korbiter2026-01-15 15:38
Oh absolutely, but the Traveler's internal monologue reveals just how tired of everything they are that they were seriously considering it. They should know better, and they do a moment later, but they were just a hair's breadth from falling into the Abyss.
The beat down and suffering from every nation would honestly be taking its toll, and were it not for a few good apples that have lit up the darkness of Teyvat, the Traveler would've been lost long ago.
And its moments like this that actually highlight how important Paimon is for the Travelers mental state. If she was here, she would've immediately tried to shut Dottore down in her own childish, naive way, and that would've snapped the Traveler back to their senses immediately.
Alpha06Omega092026-01-15 08:46
Well they did later ask Columbina to help them find the truth, could have done more but Welp story
AlkaliPineapple2026-01-15 09:29

TheBleakForest2026-01-15 08:50
Taking issue with the Traveler's difference in characterization between Archon Quests and World Quest is fine and all, but to claim the Archon Quest (the literally main story the game's narrative is centered around) are mischaracterizing him instead of the option world quests that less then half the player base even experiences and likely has less oversight from head writers is a huge reach.

I think Dottore really was so far up his own ass he couldn’t conceive of the Traveller thinking differently than him once shown the “truth” of not being bound by social rules. As a Descender the Traveller is a “higher being” according to Dottore, so they must share his worldview, Dottore couldn’t possibly be wrong about that!

Korbiter2026-01-15 07:04
Like, less then half an hour later IRL I think. Because between this and that, Nefer intruded, Dottore accidentally slowed time for the Traveler, and they spent one month trying to open their eyes.
But yeag, fuse was already short, and Traveler decided enough was enough
floricel_1122026-01-15 09:27

Supreme-Machine-V22026-01-15 11:07
I'm probably gonna get downvoted for this but I really do not care much for Kaeya or Diluc I started in 5.0 so maybe I haven't got to know them that much.
Also I didn't read the manga so I can say the same thing for Collei as well.

GIsimpnumber12362026-01-15 06:06
Lowkey Dottore was right in most of his takes. After 5 years of running behind our twin, who doesn't want to be found, and has actively avoided us multiple time and refuses to give a 5 word explanation of why are we even in teyvat in the first place, our journey would start to lack meaning. Yes "the real treasure is the friends we made along the way", but looking at it as a person going in circles and getting involved in evereyone's problems unwillingly, the traveler should be pissed off (like some fanarts depict lumine).
Also Dottore pointing out we're basically being subsidized by the fatui bc of dayly commissions... we've earned our honorary positions as the tenth fatui lol
darki_ruiz2026-01-15 08:39
>Also Dottore pointing out we're basically being subsidized by the fatui bc of dayly commissions... we've earned our honorary positions as the tenth fatui lol
The only thing the Fatui do is provide the infrastructure for the Adventurer's Guild. The commissions are posted and paid by other people, with the Guild probably just getting their cut for management.
AlkaliPineapple2026-01-15 09:37
Yeah, it's a *Guild* after all. They're usually funded by the work and not by shareholders or a single owner. It might be based in Snezhnaya, but I don't think it's directly linked to the Fatui, they might just be the wealthiest patrons of the guild.
TetraNeuron2026-01-15 11:05
Dottore states our daily primos are from Pantalone though
darki_ruiz2026-01-15 18:33
What are primos, in lore? I don't remember ever seeing them mentioned anywhere other than as player currency, so I can't judge how relevant that statement is.
I do understand that dailies are essentially a small reward the Guild gives to anybody who completes a number of quiets in a day, even not counting primos. But that could also be funded by the Guild itself, it's not like the material rewards are THAT big.
LunarFroxy2026-01-15 08:49
Honestly I find myself just sighing because it seems like he didn't understand the point of the journey.
The abyss siblings tell us to travel the world and learn about the world so by the end, we can make a verdict what kind of end you want to the story, and I don't mean just friends we made along the way kind of thing, but the bigger picture conflict between HP and Nibelung and so on.
This archon quest got me wondering what is HP real agenda, initially I always thought they protect teyvat from abyss but then again after the three moon sister I am not so sure anymore.
Basically of Dottore wants to just take a shortcut and teleport the abyss twin and coerce them to talk the truth, it ruins the whole point of travel, and to a certain extent I think the abyss twin wanted to know if maybe their point of view is biased and need adjusting, after all, whose best to snap you out of your wrongdoings (if, big IF) other than your own family.
I do agree that the traveller often times get sweeped into things they don't want to do is definitely has a point, but then again as uncle Ben once said "with great power comes great responsibility"
I suppose the traveller at this point isn't self insert anymore since I don't agree with every decision they made, and that makes then stand out as their own character.
Korbiter2026-01-15 15:32
I do see it as if we have to make a hard choice at the end of this journey, and thats why the Sibling is forcing us to live through all of Teyvat. Something like the Ancient Sacred Mountain level of choice.
If we had just woken up on the beach, and the Abyss Sibling brought us in front of a control panel. "Destroy this planet to save the rest of cosmos from the abyss". The Traveler would've pushed it without a second thought, because to them its just another planet. They haven't had the time to bond with the natives, understand each of their struggles, make connections, fix problems.
But now we've been through six of seven regions, plus Nod-Krai. If, once we finish Snezhnaya and storm Celestia, the Abyss Sibling presents the very same choice: Destroy Teyvat or the universe suffers, we'll find it MUCH more difficult to make that choice, because as we've said to Columbina, we consider Teyvat our home now.
Whatever the Abyss Sibling wants to present us, it would be a choice of devastating responsibility, and that might be the reason why they've stranded us here to understand the weight of making such a choice.
And of course, I know its a choice that Dottore would not understand the weight of, ever.
aircarone2026-01-15 09:24
I have the headcanon that the reason the traveler talked very little and let Paimon do all the talking is that they don't feel like it and don't really feel connected to the world (a bit like old Columbina). Only from Natlan onwards, once traveler starts seeing more of their sibling and actually finding some clue of what they have been up to, they start talking more and more by themselves. Getting more news of the sibling is actually pulling them out of their depressed/detached mental state and has them to open up more, which leads traveler to approach Teyvat in a more involved way (and therefore being more involved in conversations and expressing their own emotions more).
For the longest time we were either roped into the plot passively OR we did it mainly to gain information. Only after Fontaine (Bedtime Story) we start to go out there and trying to really live in the world to better understand it. I may be misremembering but outside Paimon and the sibling I feel Columbina was the first person traveler really deeply cared about. All the others are basically (good) friends or acquaintances with few exceptions that feel a bit closer due to shared secrets (like Venti). Traveler will help them to the best of their capabilities, but very few of those friends actually know who traveler is as a person.
Non-functionalBird2026-01-15 12:28
Headcannon so good I'm going to steal it
ComposedOfStardust2026-01-15 18:44
Awww, that's really sweet.... and also really sad....
You're right tho. I do think Columbina is the closest to Traveler, and that's largely thanks to how the writers handled the archon quests + introducing the selenic chronicles where we see them get to know each other in a much more natural, long lasting light. We guided Columbina into caring for the world, for a purpose beyond just returning to her moon, to offer words of comfort to her friends. And then she helped us in turn, offering comfort when Traveler was being visibly nervous about seeing the spaceship, being a sounding board when Traveler's head was full of racing thoughts that needed to be worked through... and it all feels like a logical extension of what she'd gone through and we had helped her with. Like when she pointed out how she was nervous too right before going to the moon on moon prayer night. It all feels so grounded and *real,* actually *showing* us the development of their relationship in real time instead of "oh you helped us fight this boss thanks bro now we're besties forever but I can't help you with what you really want tho sorry lol" which always felt.... rather contrived, especially when repeated ad nauseam for 6 nations.
So I'll believe it. Traveler's character has been handled with a lot more care and consideration than what they were affored in previous quests, and Columbina helping the Traveler as a person as much as Traveler helped her is very believable
AlkaliPineapple2026-01-15 09:35
Zhongli and Venti basically explained the point of the story lol. We're not trying to see if the sibling can give us an explanation, we're just seeing what the mystery of Teyvat is. And Inazuma changed the Traveler's mindset from an urgent pursuit to a slower adventure. We're not going in circles. Each nation unlocked something vital to know about Teyvat. I mean, even after Rerir disguised himself as the sibling, the Traveler was still hesitant when Dottore put the choice right in front of him.
Exorrt2026-01-15 10:41
> Lowkey Dottore was right in most of his takes.
If you think that you are an idiot. Seriously. It goes against the whole point of the story, and on a meta level, he's asking you to stop playing the game you're playing. He's one of the most obviously wrong about everything villains I've ever seen and his philosophy is just being a psychopath with no care for others at all.
ComposedOfStardust2026-01-15 18:48
It does not bode well that so many players drank the kool aid and are unironically going "wait he's right our journey really IS meaningless" when the true point of this journey has been hammered home time and time again.
TheVagrantSeaman2026-01-15 07:10
It wasn't being about nice, it was the problem of a perceived excess of repetition. Unfortunately, the game is rewarding it, so while I value what Dottore means in that moment, the game doesn't care.
We are currently being rewarded with a free 5-star constellation should we play 5 days a week, the second time around. The Doctor, while selfish, is proposing something more chaotic.

aboveaveragefrog2026-01-15 15:05
I’m not sure I agree with this. The story seems split in saying the traveler isn’t a hero for opposing Dottore, who the narrative basically says should be opposed entirely on the merit that he’s a bad person because intellectually it often claims he’s right. Unless it’s saying pragmatism is antithetical to being good?
If anything traveler who acted selfishly to start by doing things like infiltrating sacred grounds of frostmoon scions is supposed to be rejecting such a vice in their opposition of Dottore who also tries to rationalise selfish, uncompromising behaviour. Their greyness seems superficial this patch

The whole conversation with Dottore and Traveler reminded me of Green Goblin’s famous speech from the *Spider-Man Trilogy*:
**Dottore:** You and I are not so different, Traveler.
**Traveler:** I'm nothing like you. You're a murderer.
**Dottore:** To each their own. I chose my path, you chose the way of the hero. And they found you… *amusing* for a while, the people of Teyvat. But the one thing they love more than a hero is to see a hero fail, fall, die trying. In spite of everything you've done for them, eventually, they will hate you. Why bother?
**Traveler:** Because it's right.
**Dottore:** Let me tell you something: There are millions of people in Teyvat, and each and every one of those teeming, insignificant masses exists only to elevate the few exceptional people upon their shoulders. You and me? We're the exceptional. I could crush you like the insect you are, but I'm offering you a choice: Join me. Think of what we could accomplish, what we could create. Or we could destroy. Cause the deaths of countless innocents locked in selfish conflict again and again and again until one of us dies. Is that what you want? ***THINK ABOUT IT, HERO!!!***

I have normal feeling about him (the things I want him to do to me are not mentioned in the Bible)

Doing things not in the bible sounds like it’d be a selling point for Dottore

No bad ending choice with us joining Zandik, shame on you, Hoyo, so lazy

Careful - You'll get a copyright claim from enthralpy who apparently owns Genshin Impact.

would have been funny if they did something like they did with >!Little One's final quest!<, making it so that there's a choice, but only one viable outcome, with just a minor cutscene for the "wrong" option
Commentaires
"ah yes, murdering people is my passion, I couldn't possibly refuse this opportunity"
He could have promised the classic, you can protect your friends, you can find the truth behind this world, you can confront the Heavenly Principles and Shades for trapping you here etc.
He might be one of the reasons there's a danger sign in front of a crocodile enclosure in the zoo.
Me personally? I went on a revenge spree with ALL of his ops. Diluc and Kaeya? Scaramouche? Layla? COLLEI?! You get your revenge. You get your revenge. EVERYBODY GETS THEIR REVENGE!
In the end it is revealed it was him that delivered your little companion to you all the way back at the forest, so it could learn to love the world and not hate it.
Your final answer removes all doubt from him and he passes way content with your chosen path.
It's peak.
so it was moreso out of curiosity an "experiment" you may.
...
"And also you can kill. Did I say that you can kill whoever you want? And also think about it, what are your friends for? Wouldn't you wanna kill anyone you want?"
I honestly thought Traveler would say yes to getting their sibling back lol
Then Dottore fucking blew it by going mask-off sociopathic again, and then the Traveler backed off real fast, remembering that it is indeed *Dottore*
The man almost could've had everything, but just couldn't resist showing off his wrongness
The beat down and suffering from every nation would honestly be taking its toll, and were it not for a few good apples that have lit up the darkness of Teyvat, the Traveler would've been lost long ago.
And its moments like this that actually highlight how important Paimon is for the Travelers mental state. If she was here, she would've immediately tried to shut Dottore down in her own childish, naive way, and that would've snapped the Traveler back to their senses immediately.

travelre: hehe abyss go brrrr
But yeag, fuse was already short, and Traveler decided enough was enough
Not because he is correct or anything I just wanted to be a villain.
Also I didn't read the manga so I can say the same thing for Collei as well.
(I still think dottore deserved dying and was a horrible person to put it lightly)
I do understand that dailies are essentially a small reward the Guild gives to anybody who completes a number of quiets in a day, even not counting primos. But that could also be funded by the Guild itself, it's not like the material rewards are THAT big.
If you think that you are an idiot. Seriously. It goes against the whole point of the story, and on a meta level, he's asking you to stop playing the game you're playing. He's one of the most obviously wrong about everything villains I've ever seen and his philosophy is just being a psychopath with no care for others at all.
We are currently being rewarded with a free 5-star constellation should we play 5 days a week, the second time around. The Doctor, while selfish, is proposing something more chaotic.
And lot of "unwritten crime" Lol
Heck even we're trespassing so many restricted area in disguise got fooled by the quest given
It's even worse when we possess adult saurians and slay their kids as their parent
This is more about what the players do, I generally avoid attacking the kids, especially in their parents'bodies.
At the very least, for the Saurians, I remember it being mentioned somewhere that we are just sparring/training with them and they don't die.
Jhet: let's go on a Genocidal Date again!
If anything traveler who acted selfishly to start by doing things like infiltrating sacred grounds of frostmoon scions is supposed to be rejecting such a vice in their opposition of Dottore who also tries to rationalise selfish, uncompromising behaviour. Their greyness seems superficial this patch
"Isn't it boring to be good all the time?"
Its like dottore wanted to be The Wife / Husband .
Honestly I'm glad their "everyone wants to jump on the traveler's dick" thing extends to Dottore lol
How much more? 😏
BAM! Torpedo through the hull of the ship!
