According to Ororon's va, they are no longer permitted to share artwork unless it's official or approved by Hoyo.

all because people don't behave and harass vas if they share art they don't like, pretty ridiculous if you ask me
edit: guys spamming hoyos inboxes about what the vas post on twitter is also harassment
Confident-Low-26962026-01-15 14:28
if its instructions from hoyo themselves i HIGHLY doubt it's because the va's themselves get harrased, they have very little contact and awareness with the VA's as they moreso deal with the sound company, it might have more to do with brand image and the potential of sharing AI art or art that comes from a bad PR account
RaidenXYae2026-01-15 14:36
certain people spamming hoyos inboxes about the vas "hurting their brand| is still harassment lol. They had templates and everything
Confident-Low-26962026-01-15 14:52
no one has to spam anything, the account the VA shares from could be compromised and it can be for any reason, even political nowadays with the china japan tensions, not to mention people could claim an "official genshin VA" shared their art and use it to promote their products, so many cases tbh i can keep writing potential bad PR cases and none of which are harassement
Mango0272026-01-15 14:43
Or simply from legal. If I'm the future a hoyo artist creates a similar piece there is opportunity for copyright claims
TetraNeuron2026-01-15 15:30
HoYo makes more money the more fans they cater too
I could see this as purely a cold-minded business decision: If VAs start posting images of ships, fans could start thinking "this is the official ship" and leave, losing HoYo sales.
It costs HoYo little to nothing stop ban VAs posting fanart, but it stops their fanbase constantly getting into fights and spamming customer service with their grievances
randomizme32026-01-15 15:44
Hoyo doesn’t have anything against fan ships, their own staff love certain ships from some of the games (e.g: one zzz dev was spotted with a bunch of phaidei merch on their work desk). They even held events where creators known for their ship arts were invited. In nearly all cases where hoyo had to put a stop to fan work was due to harassment by other fans.
ExtremeQuestion6102026-01-15 14:28
Facts.
Supreme-Machine-V22026-01-15 14:31
I doubt it's due to harrasment if it's from hoyo most likely brand image
aoi_desu2026-01-15 14:36
If its from hoyo, its most likely hoyo want to keep the brand image rather than that, hoyo is not obligated to give them VA protection from online harassment
Please use logic
RaidenXYae2026-01-15 14:42
that's not what I meant, spamming hoyos inboxes with telling on VAs for the shit they post (which these people do) is still harassment. I never said they're protecting the vas
aoi_desu2026-01-15 14:46
Well you should've been more clear about it from the start cuz i seen zero explaination about it based on your post and the comment i replied
Realistic_Sound9132026-01-15 15:13
Considering they're now running Columbina's banner and they decide to take action because the sandbina fanart, gotta protect the fantasy of the waifubait
bakugo2026-01-15 14:48
It has nothing to do with harassment, they just don't want random fanart to be seen as "officially endorsed" by them, which can potentially damage their brand (mainly due to rabid shippers going "THE VA TWEETED IT, ITS CANON")
moopym2026-01-15 15:22
I hate that genshin fandom has created the toxic idea that the va = their character which has continued into other media fandoms too (most notably the amazing digital circus, Sean chiplock can't escape these rabid fans 😭)
karillith2026-01-15 16:00
> I hate that genshin fandom has created the toxic idea that the va = their character
Genshin fandom didn't create shit. Do you think TLOU2 Abby's VA/model actress was harrassed online because of the genshin community?
LOwOJ2026-01-15 16:12
huh genshin didnt create this trend this already exist 10-15 years ago even more... and its prominent in anime and gaming.
Ze_AwEsOmE_Hobo2026-01-15 14:53
Just gonna hijack your comment a bit to add that the harassment *is* tied to Hoyo's brand image. I'm seeing a few people say that Hoyo likely did this because of their image, and for the protection of the VAs, but both can be true.
Having terminally online people kick up a storm at your employees' sharing of art is not good for them or for you. You can still find all these screenshots of "take down threads" assuming Sean Chiplock (Diluc's voice actor) is either homophobic or supporter of incest, etc. over one retweet of fan art. Even if you're full on *soulless money corpo inc.,* you wouldn't want that shit on your employees when their voicing your biggest audience pull (the characters).
Additional_Pin_74612026-01-15 15:15
Im curious what did diluc va post to make them think he supporter of incest can you tell me?
moopym2026-01-15 15:20
He said he doesn't hate kaeya x diluc which is like, whatever dude there so many arguments for and against this ship it doesn't really matter just do your own thing and don't harass people
Additional_Pin_74612026-01-15 15:24
I see......
que_sarasara2026-01-15 15:58
This is such a non-issue it's unreal. All these people insisting on policing how others play with their imaginary dolls is genuinely ruining fandom communities.
MMBADBOI2026-01-16 07:02
And that's what happens when you don't properly gatekeep assholes from your fandom.
Fullpotentialk2026-01-15 22:58
It didnt register his radar but he was ragebaiting his haters after they harassed him because they think he ships them.
moopym2026-01-16 00:10
Literally! Its so so funny 😭 I honestly gained more respect for him from that
LastAttempt243152026-01-15 15:21
Kaeya x Diluc art
Ze_AwEsOmE_Hobo2026-01-15 15:25
IIRC, it was either [this image](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FS6P42DWIAAp6Hu.jpg) or one of Kaeya and Diluc playing on a beach as children.
Additional_Pin_74612026-01-15 15:26
Ty i wasn't online back then i don't know most of these drama
TechnicianOk65262026-01-15 21:04
They might also not like when people take the VAs posts as something representative of characters. Like somebody who doesn't know much about Genshin looking at Cat Protanos twitter and thinking Rerir and Skirk are a real thing in game. They're a corp, and managing their brand image (characters being under their brand) is their main thing.
Refff62026-01-15 14:28
What was the artwork that caused this?
VeterinarianNorth6642026-01-15 14:35
Probably the Columbina x Sandrone art the Columbina EN VA share, and the Skirk VA sharing the Skirk x Rerir fanart
J_Clowth2026-01-15 14:40
rerir x skirk is the crackship of all time wow
TrulyaGachaAddict2026-01-15 14:41
its because their en vas are partners so it was a silly ship, but people on twitter got too mad about it and ruined the fun for everyone
Lubinski642026-01-15 14:57
It's always twitter
army1282026-01-15 16:17
Not just twitter. Any display or hint of a relationship towards another character other than you, even a platonic one, the crazy fans will see that as betrayal and will rage. aka the idol paradigm.
dododomo2026-01-15 21:14
Friendly reminder that that some chinese gacha games developers had to alter/rewrite some lines in their games because according to some Chinese players the female characters were cheating on the protagonist. Some people self-insert way too much lol. Guess you can't make a female character too close/flirty or explicitly in love with a male character (be he playable or NPC) other than the protagonist in gacha games anymore
Fullpotentialk2026-01-15 21:49
I mourn Phainon and Cyrene’s friendship
dododomo2026-01-15 22:48
Considering how some guys (especially in China, etc) pick up their pitchforks and torches as soon as a playable female character is too "close" or flirty/in love with a male character othern than the MC (be he playable or NPC), I expected it
Fancy-Letterhead-4772026-01-15 23:00
I read somewhere that self insert is so egregiously bad in China cuz of the horribly imbalanced gender ratio due to the whole *natural selection* and preferring mans to womans children
Dragoncat_3_42026-01-15 23:05
This isn't TikTok, you can use the word femicide (or mention the one child policy for that matter)
luciluci55622026-01-15 15:26
and because Skirk and Rerir's KR VA are married. So it's quite a coincidence too
No_Radio12302026-01-15 15:28
This reminds me of when Cyno's VA was accused of being a pedo for streaming the Tribios trailer and going like "that's my wife!". Tribbie's VA is his spouse (or partner idk) in real life.
Fun-Wafer64522026-01-15 17:13
i can confirm alejandro (cyno/jy) and hayden (tribbie) got married in 2022!
ResurgentClusterfuck2026-01-15 18:08
Awww
No_Radio12302026-01-15 18:46
Ahh good for them!!
Vusdruv2026-01-15 18:35
Chronically online people taking things out of context to frame it in a negative way, a true classic
Sireanna2026-01-15 18:50
Its actually cute though that he was excited for his partner's character trailer
SecretAgentDragon2026-01-16 00:11
That’s so funny when there’s a substantial amount of people online that aren’t exactly the one guy with a real reason to call Tribios their wife but do anyway
No_Radio12302026-01-16 00:14
Lol yeah there are three more people max, and that's if the other VAs are married lol
Expensive_Reflection2026-01-15 16:13
Because it's a het ship. Unsuprisingly, no one bats an eye when Nazeeh and Alejandro supported Haikaveh and Cynari respectively.
AndlenaRaines2026-01-15 16:19
Yes there were definitely people complaining. Just like Columbina and Sandrone. People were complaining when Yuzuha’s VA posted a picture of Yuzuha with the lesbian flag in the background (she didn’t know that’s what the flag meant)
TrulyaGachaAddict2026-01-15 16:26
i dont think it was that, i think it was mostly people saying that it didnt make sense ingame
also people were 100% complaining when nazeeh and alejandro supported those, just like its going on with columbina and sandrone
7adzius2026-01-15 16:21
The Internet was a mistake people are so disgustingly antisocial these days i hate it
Fenixsoul232026-01-15 16:28
To add, hoyo's overall principal is to lightly suggest but never confirm. Which is why it could look bad when a VA does it. It would have to be on an alt that cant be identified or a private account.
cageoid2026-01-15 16:33
Kinda weird for Hoyo to put restrictions like this because some people can't chill out. It's reinforcing this behaviour
Yurand_2026-01-15 17:47
It does make sense for them to put restrictions on this. People are using this as fuel. Like "the VA shared this so it must be Canon" etc so it just sucked. Tbh I'm glad they did this. Less drama
snakebit19952026-01-16 00:43
There are plenty of brands that have this, it's usually part of brand image control and preventing fanart from being misconstrued as official
VAs are by no means an official source but some people treat them like they are so "X retweeted it" sometimes makes people think something is official art, canon information, etc
it's why you always see "The opinions expressed here are my own and not necessarily reflective of EMPLOYER" on stuff
gomalley4112026-01-15 17:44
Reminds me of how Zhongli and Mavuika's JP VAs are partners too
Crimson_Raven2026-01-15 14:42
Oh my god that's terrible!
Where?
jotenha12026-01-15 14:53
It was a frame of THE Sandbina Gif. You know the one.

just google sandrone and Columbina gif
MDPete2026-01-15 14:59
So does that mean CN fans arent allowed to share Mavuika x Zhongli art despite the CN VAs are married? EDIT: My bad it was JP not CN!!
IvyLestrange2026-01-15 15:02
I mean I presume they can, the VAs just might not be able to. I doubt there’s really anything they can do to stop fanworks.
Overquartz2026-01-15 15:02
The CN Va's are married too? I knew the JP ones were.
Wonderful-Lab73752026-01-15 15:38
No they aren’t. Only the JP ones are.
127-0-0-1_12026-01-15 15:04
Why would *fans* not be able to do anything?
TommaClock2026-01-15 15:44
Disney: Why would *fans* be able to do anything?
RandomEOS2026-01-15 15:04
they are not married though?
LalaluLapin2026-01-15 15:37
Not to erm actually you, but it's actually their JP seiyuu that are married, not CN! (Tomoaki Maeno and Mikako Komatsu) He even C6'd Mavuika on stream 😊
VAs sharing ship fanart is really rare outside of EN fandoms tbh it's not really considered professional and Asian fandom spaces value separation of those spaces (i.e. separating shipping stuff from canon spaces etc).
MDPete2026-01-15 15:51
Thanks for the correction!!
InumiSan2026-01-15 16:40
Also the JP Seyuus usually ask Hoyo for permission when they plan something on their own streams. Like Maeno san double checked with Hoyo if he was allowed to read story lines for Zhongli before he streamed playing Genshin.
oof-eef-thats-beef2026-01-15 15:07

SireTonberry-2026-01-15 15:19
SHe didnt even share it as an endorsement or anything just "Lol look at the funny thing fans gave me"
This community is dog
Woodpeckershurtmyear2026-01-15 19:04
"Gacha grail" on twitter is a cancer, most of them don't even play the game
SireTonberry-2026-01-15 21:40
Theyre on reddit too (unfiltered sub) thankfully there is only a handful of those weirdoes here while on xitter theyre significant and xitter doesnt care about stuff like mass harassment campaigns
Usually im the first one to shit on reddit stupidly strict rules and overreaching moderation/admins but sometimes theyre a necessity for sure
UUUOsas2026-01-16 00:55
I'd like to add, that one of the founding members of Gacha Grail is a Karen who gets mad and Gmail's Hoyo and WuWa when the ship is homo or hetero. Just a few weeks ago, the mere insinuation that one of the girls was attracted to a man that wasn't the MC made him mad and get jumped by his own community.
phrolovas_violin2026-01-15 15:20
It's about time we treat va's as just another part of the game, they are like a drama mill no matter what they do they will cause drama.
Hoyo did good, by curtailing some of their proclavities.
thecatandthependulum2026-01-15 15:40
Ooh I want to see the skirk/rerir one!
Twitch_L_SLE2026-01-15 15:53
do you have links? i don't have twitter
Starmark_1152026-01-15 17:35
So...
Couple Art is risky?
ChoroCho2026-01-15 14:36
probably the sandbina kiss one since columbina's va was harrassed by "those" players (gacha grail) for literally liking it to the point of being forced to delete the post. many are seeing this new action from hoyo as a way to protect vas from harrassment
Ze_AwEsOmE_Hobo2026-01-15 14:40
Probably nothing in particular, but artwork has been getting Twitter and Bsky angry since 2020-2021, with Sean Chiplock's retweets of Diluc and Kaeya fanart. More recently, Cat Protano got "in trouble" with the community by sharing ship art of Skirk and Rerir since she and her SO voice those characters. Protano had temporarily left the platform as a result.
Hoyo's probably not a fan of their voice talent getting jumped every time they share whatever people decide is the "the wrong fan art" that week.
AntonioS32026-01-15 14:45
Really? I know Bluesky has alot of problems, but I've been browsing there and I haven't run into people being upset about artwork. If anything it's been the opposite, in my circle there have been a few people upset about the harassment some VAs received from sharing artwork.
I don't understand what compel people to get upset about artwork. It's just fictional art, right? Don't like it, scroll down. Why do people feel the need to be rude?
After-Syrup12902026-01-15 15:22
Because the arts are posted without context and not everyone is in on the joke?
Like, if I very randomly run into an art of ship bout say - ifa and yae miko, with no context as to whats behind it and what is it even meant to be for, I as a player would be a bit miffed as to whats going on
I do know that more often than not it's bout players who don't like things, are projecting ships or whatever... But more than often it's also bout not knowing the jokes themselves: there was a vid bout mav and capitano ship, one person said how can this be and explained the lore reasons: was instead made fun of and told to look at things better and improve their reading comprehension, it's meant to be and what not, got downvoted till I explained that's it's just a joke art, not meant to be very serious and is a joke and that's when they understood things
Ppl assume that just because they play the game and are nearly always active for the jokes - everyone knows said jokes too and post it, while the avg player just randomly ran into it while taking a break from everything in their life and is now confused as to why such a thing is even trending - they're not generally rude, just uninformed, they do scroll down... But some can't help as to list out reasons why it can't be lore wise without knowing that things are somewhere between meme and a light tease, coming across as rude and fun spoilers when they simply arent and need to be told the context too, which the arts definitely do not have...
que_sarasara2026-01-15 15:51
Reason 1004 why the English speaking community needs to stop seeing the EN VAs literally as the characters they voice.
Nijiuri2026-01-15 16:02
The VAs see themselves as the characters half the time.
sopunny2026-01-15 19:48
More like they play up the connection for fan engagement ie money. But most people separate the VA from the character
Ze_AwEsOmE_Hobo2026-01-15 21:27
Yeah. Can't speak for every English VA, but the ones I've watched charity streams of have straight-up told the stream chats not to address them as "character x or y" because that's not their name and it's disrespectful.
I'm pretty sure if you rolled up in Alejandro Saab's streams calling him Cyno, that you'd get banned or timed out by like the 3rd or 4th time.
Ryuunoru2026-01-15 21:23
Do they? Or is that how the community views the VAs in turn?
dalzmc2026-01-15 18:40
There’s just this cultural thing where for example JP voice actors dont really have the need to build the personal/parasocial connection with fans, they’re too busy being like celebrities to be streamers, etc.. so if you look, they post some pictures of themselves and such sometimes maybe, but other than that, they only repost tweets from official pages. And not much of it either. It’s much more like how a Hollywood actor might treat their social media pages, whereas en va’s seem more likely to treat it like an influencer or streamer might.
Like I pulled up some pages just to compare. Inori Minase (look if I think Genshin I think Furina ok), Chris Hemsworth ( first Hollywood actor I thought of), Emi Lo (columbina on my mind of course). The former are very alike, tho Chris’s account reposts less but just writes posts and attaches official media instead. Emi is posting about her streams, replying to fans, little vlog like videos, etc, which is all awesome, but even if we ignore whatever picture twitter got mad at her for, there’s a clear difference right? Of course there’s variance in behavior for all of these groups, but I still think there’s a pattern.
iwantfutanaricumonme2026-01-15 22:20
Naoto Fuuga is definitely not like that though. He's the voice provider for kaito.
dalzmc2026-01-16 01:09
PJSK mentioned!! haha that's right he's Kaito's biggest fan. Mafuyu oshi here, unfortunately her VA has a pretty sanitized public presence
corazoningout552026-01-15 16:44
It was a badge ribbon Columbina's VA got. It had a frame of an animation of Sandrone and Columbina kissing. A bunch of insecure incels got their undies in a twist and harassed them to the point of deleting the post
Giganteblu2026-01-15 14:29
it's even legal? genuinely asking
Historical_Yak21482026-01-15 14:32
if its stated in the contract then its not illegal
Giganteblu2026-01-15 14:40
what a shitty contract lmao
FrostedEevee2026-01-15 14:45
Very mature of you to call it shitty without knowing all the facts.
Some VA have been harassed and so was Hoyo with angry messages due to VA reposting ships that hurt Twitter trolls’ egos. Just look at Skirk and Rerir.
Giganteblu2026-01-15 14:51
bruh
twitter is a social media since when (officially at least because unofficially it's usually even worse lmao) can your employer decide what you post on social media?
ravearamashi2026-01-15 14:56
People have been fired over social media posts. At least Hoyo is being proactive this time instead of waiting for some shitshow to happen before taking actions.
hudashick2026-01-15 14:56
If it affects then company then yes.
Notice how the VA specifically said arts needs hoyo approval thus most likely it's arts from hoyo characters etc.
aoi_desu2026-01-15 14:59
Since the old age lmao, especially when its so easy getting fired/blacklisted over a SNS post, also, pretty sure keeping brand image is pretty common in contract, ex : vshojo stuff, so many things didnt go public until vshojo fucked up their talents really fucking bad
Prisma_Lane2026-01-15 14:42
Yes, if they're contractually obligated to. If they're not bound by contract (highly unlikely), then there's technically no pressure to actually enforce an order.
So if Ororon's VA is saying he can't do it anymore because Hoyo said so, then it's probably in the contract.
Sonicguy19962026-01-15 14:38
Oh look, shippers ruining and burning down yet another bridge. Quick lets act surprised!!!
jotenha12026-01-15 14:56
If it's about the most recent one, then it wasn't shippers. Rather, it was the homophobic groups on Twitter that got mad at Columbina's VA
Sonicguy19962026-01-15 14:58
Soooo "people" didn't like a certain "pairing" of 2 characters..... I mean thanks for proving me right I guess XD
jotenha12026-01-15 15:00
If you saw the foul things they were saying, you would understand it goes far beyond the ship.
Sonicguy19962026-01-15 15:01
I mean thats very much in line with how most shippers handle any ship they don't like. Stop trying to shield them.
jotenha12026-01-15 15:05
My brother in Christ, it's not ship discourse. It's straight up homophobia being proudly presented by a group that embodies that hate mentality. This is not about "oh but I like her with another character". It's about a disgusting group complaining directly at the VA about stuff she should be allowed to share on her private account.
It's the same thing that happened to ZZZ Yuzuha's VA a few months ago. They go after any VA that shows a progressive view about their characters and push Hoyo to take a position in the matter.
genshin_impact-2026-01-15 15:06
You really just wanna blame shippers for absolutely everything dont you😭
Sonicguy19962026-01-15 15:09
No it's just funny that a specific subsection of every community is somehow alwas a problem no matter what communicatie I'm in. And it's just interesting to point that out.
No matter what community I go to, shippers somehow ALWAYS manage to be a problem.
People don't like to hear it, because ignorance is bliss.
jotenha12026-01-15 15:14
How many times does it have to be said that this is not about shipping discourse??? What she does or doesn't ship is no one's matter. She has no saying in the character story anyways.
She could be pairing Columbina with whoever she'd like. The problem arises when homophobic groups decide to dunk on the VAs for their views. The same way it was Columbina and Sandrone, it could've been anything else. They just see FxF and think that's the end of the world.
bael_bael2026-01-15 15:19
List of Voice Actors shippers harassed within the past six months:
Aglaea
Dr. Ratio
Kafka
Skirk
Columbina
You caused this yourself.
jotenha12026-01-15 15:22
Pretty sure Aglaea and Ratio were because of their follows and political views in general. Idk I don't follow EN VAs so idk what was going on there. Something about Israel?
No idea what Kafka's did?
Skirk was the only one that actually involved Ship Discourse. Again, didn't follow, didn't care.
Wooden-Ad-72452026-01-15 15:27
I think they mean the "self-shippers" so you guys are actually agreeing
bmann102026-01-15 15:00
Yea I feel like shippers get a lot of blame for stuff that the type of person to harass project moon into firing an artist because she was perceived by them to be “feminist” does. It’s like there’s this mass ignorance of the existence of these insane losers in this community who have nothing better to do than hate women, so instead it must be the women who are at fault.
Karg3th2026-01-15 15:52
Its shippers in general. Just because it happened now after the Columbina VA incident doesn't mean the other side being Skirk VA incident doesn't count. Both sides are terrible, stop victimizing and blaming it solely on homophobia.
zippoiii2026-01-15 15:42
Oh look, toxic fans that blame shippers are burning down yet another bridge.

Sonoreal2026-01-15 14:47
What the fuck. Why they can't share their opinions about arts. What the fuck?!
JustAl69696969692026-01-15 14:49
It's probably for the same reason why idols can't say if they're in a relationship, it's to avoid harassment, VAs did get a lot of it for sharing art about shipping
ejsks2026-01-15 14:59
More likely a safeguard by Hoyo after we've had a handful of VAs step away from the community after being harrassed for sharing artwork they liked.
LOwOJ2026-01-15 15:01
because the fans always creating drama for no reason when VA share an art they didnt approved... its always the fans dont act surprise.
sashhasubb2026-01-15 15:03
Because when they do, troglodytes on twitter harass them.
FrostedEevee2026-01-15 14:48
I just hope no one just automatically assumes Hoyo is oppressing VA since at least in last year VA-fanbase hasn’t been the smoothest.
So I can see why this is happening.
ZweiChi2026-01-15 14:50
Judging from the replies to this post... Too late...
RandomEOS2026-01-15 14:59
well, this is just gonna make hoyo limit only en va more
hikufalafel2026-01-15 15:43
I guess they felt indirectly called out by hoyo.
Alex24222026-01-15 15:41
Why *shouldn't* people assume this? Hoyo just prohibited VAs from doing something.
FrostedEevee2026-01-15 15:46
Because that just shows your bias that Company prohibition = Company bad.
If tomorrow your company contract tells you that you can’t moonlight, then you can’t go and say ‘It’s against freedom of work’.
Similarly just because VA are prohibited from something NOW, there must be some reason.
Blaming the company shows the person’s shallowness.
Let’s not forget we are talking about the same fanbase which sent Kokomi VA death threats because her kit was bad
Low_Artist_76632026-01-15 16:14
Because after two recent examples its obvious that VA would be harassed because of ship arts, no matter what the ship is.
You can easily read this as their only way to protect VAs on that front.
BuildingQuirky23582026-01-15 14:50
genshin chuds when VA likes a gay gif
slayer589x2026-01-15 15:34
Well it goes both ways actually , when a va posts a shipping art all the people who like that ship will start spamming that since the va posted it it must be canon and they other side will harass the va for it .
Not to mention that the gay shippers harassed the va for the sound she made when eating the candy with the traveler .
Maniacal-Blueberry2026-01-15 15:47
It definitely goes both ways. People just really don't like their ship being different from the one they see. I don't know why some people take seeing fanart of another ship as a personal attack.
cartercr2026-01-15 14:50
That’s ridiculous. This is such crazy overreach from Hoyo.
ejsks2026-01-15 15:00
Unless you stop and consider why.
We've had several EN VAs get harrassed out of the community because they dared show artwork a loud minority didn't like, so this is basically a safeguard for the VAs for it to stop happening.
cartercr2026-01-15 15:20
Except that’s still an overreach? If your boss told you you were no longer allowed to post about Genshin Impact on social media (yes, including this post) how would you react? You would, of course, call it an overreach. You’re an adult, you can choose what you want to post about, and if your followers don’t like it then you can choose whether or not to continue posting.
It’s kind of crazy seeing my comment get downvoted, is it really so crazy to think that a persons personal social media accounts shouldn’t be subjected to such scrutiny? It would be one thing if an actor posted something along the lines of “Fuck Hoyoverse” but it’s another thing entirely to say “you’re not allowed to post *anything* related to this project without express written consent.” Like some actors were fans of the game before they ever got roles in the game (Jahoda’s VA, for example) and those people are now no longer permitted to post about the game.
Yarmungar2026-01-15 14:50
Lmao, EN VA just can't catch a break? Theres always shit to stir
RandomEOS2026-01-15 14:54
they always cause somthing that never heard of in other region, I never heard in CN or Jp or kr that va cant do this thing, but the en va lol
PandaBlueDance2026-01-15 15:57
For most ppl their exposure to CN/JP equivalent of Reddit/X is limited or 2nd hand though.
An interesting observation I saw elsewhere, dunno how true, is that comparatively speaking, VAs in Asia know the boundary and are more circumspect about separating themselves from the characters they voice, whereas EN VAs sometimes seem to do the opposite or are at least unafraid to wade into controversy.
COG_Gear_Omega2026-01-15 16:05
Most JP VAs have a fairly curated online presence, Twitter accounts are oftentimes run (presumably) by PR firms since they have very specific ways of posting/speaking/making statements. There's also the fact they don't larp the character or invoke the character's name as often a la Sunday's VA drama from a while back, which definitely contributes to fanbase perception of the character a VA is voicing.
que_sarasara2026-01-15 16:02
But they aren't stirring anything? The one in the wrong here is the community and it's inability to stop seeing the VA as the character they play.
LOwOJ2026-01-15 16:09
this time blame the toxic fans.
MegaIconSlasher2026-01-15 14:52
Mans can’t catch a break
RandomEOS2026-01-15 14:53
en va never stop creating trouble lol, guessing why other region never having this kind of issue
RandomEOS2026-01-15 14:57
and people are downvoting for this fact, and dont have gut to even counter the statement, because it is simply true
genshin_impact-2026-01-15 15:07
Yeah, the voice actors caused this... for liking fan art, sure
Realistic_Sound9132026-01-15 14:53
[deleted]
Koupo2026-01-15 14:56
I mean, everyone is kind of getting it. VA's who posted both straight and queer art have both got into hot water for posting ship content, starting all the way back with Sara and Itto. Hoyo, for whatever reason, is just now recognizing how chaotic shipping discourse is getting.
LOwOJ2026-01-15 14:56
this is good .. some people on the community got bonkers when VA share something they didnt approved and create some stupid drama.
SireTonberry-2026-01-15 15:31
Yeah its so good that the people on xitter most responsible for this harassment ("Gacha Grail" community) are currently celebrating it as a win and saying theyre going to double down with harassment since it clearly works
Great job
awanandswan2026-01-15 14:57
Good
Dalmyr2026-01-15 14:59
I think it's more a power trip by Hoyo than anything else.
masternieva6662026-01-15 15:04
Well Mihoyo is just protecting eng va from getting harass by twitter freaks. Last time a va get harass when they post a art of same sex ship.
ChurroAlpaca2026-01-15 15:00
I saw Ororons VA and "No longer" and i panicked for a sec
dragoncommandsLife2026-01-15 15:45
“Oh no not again…! Not another one!”
Is exactly how i felt
-FruitPunchSamurai-2026-01-15 16:00
One of the good ones too isn't he like the only one who openly welcomed Kinich's new VA?
Fun-Wafer64522026-01-15 17:16
yeah, and he frequently does collabs with ifas va so their character dynamic translates to real life! it’s very sweet :)
neveon_2026-01-15 17:28
Ooh I didn't know that! May I ask what channel?
Fun-Wafer64522026-01-15 17:47
i’m sorry i don’t know :( i’ve only seen clips on twitter, hopefully there’s some answers there!
neveon_2026-01-15 18:17
Oh, no worries! Thanks anyway
Fullpotentialk2026-01-15 22:56
Flins and Ineffa’s english vas also become friends and stream buddies after they announced their roles and did collabs.
TunaTunaLeeks2026-01-15 16:21
Was about to pour one out for him but then read the rest.
LightningLord21372026-01-15 15:01
It's always the Aether mains...
Bitter_Spray_68802026-01-15 15:09
Ngl this is good, I'm sorry but some of this VA are really just too immature to handle social media...
hraberuka2026-01-15 15:11
This feels like they approach it this way : you are kinda often in some shit, let's be professionals ok
randomizme32026-01-15 15:14
As a fan it SUCKS because I love finding new artists this way but I’ve also seen VAs getting harassed and receiving death threats all because they retweeted an innocent artwork of a character they voice. This is why we can’t have nice things man
que_sarasara2026-01-15 15:52
Why on earth does the gacha community get so scorched earth over shipping art when it's a normal and everyday part of every other fandom?
Is gacha a lot of kids first experience in fan communities or???
LalaluLapin2026-01-15 15:57
Yes, yes it is. A lot of these gacha games are free to play (technically 🫤) and available on mobile, which is two major factors of "things kids can get into easily." Even the difference between free MMORPGs vs subscription based MMORPGs is staggering in the average maturity of the fandom LOL
Art_of_BigSwIrv2026-01-15 16:42
There are exceptions. I was a WoW player and then tried Guild Wars II and the toxicity was nearly absent. What toxicity did exist was easily avoidable. It was such a mature breath of fresh air that I quit WoW right then and there and haven’t looked back since. As bad as Genshin can get, Holy Nuckin’ Futs, compared to the other gacha game spaces, Genshin comes across as a paradise. Accusing these spaces of being para-social cesspools IS Being Polite.
LalaluLapin2026-01-15 16:44
Oh yeah there are always exceptions. After all, FFXIV fandom has its own godawful flavor of toxicity. It's just a different toxicity from fandoms where a huge chunk of the fans are early teens... though the way some of these people (people MY AGE!!) act you wouldn't be able to tell 🫤
ZaheerUchiha2026-01-15 16:05
Gacha games are like catnip for the marginally functional.
thatonedudeovethere_2026-01-15 16:07
Lots of Kids, lots of people with 0 social skills who think a character is 'theirs'
ajisawwsome2026-01-15 16:12
It's not gacha exclusively. It's basically any kind of fandom over fictional characters will have this problem
randomizme32026-01-15 16:18
I ask myself this question everyday. Like literally in every fandom I’ve been in, there’s people like this lurking there. I feel that some people can’t accept that other people have different headcanons, or that headcanons are not official
Big_Restaurant48222026-01-15 16:19
free mobile game = kids (no money) can play it. you don't find them in games where there's denuvo and you need to pay upfront. you see those kids like 7 yos 12yos 15yos 18yos on their mobile outside? yeah it's them
TunaTunaLeeks2026-01-15 16:22
A lot of weird incels out there that don’t face negative consequences for their bad behavior, unfortunately.
Iguanadlhent2026-01-15 16:36
> when it's a normal and everyday part of every other fandom?
Correction: when it *should be* a normal and everyday part of fandom
Some people act like Genshin/gacha is particularly bad(and to be completely fair, we do have some problems in the fandom), but this has been a staple in fandom culture for a while, even if in different forms/for different reasons
NicoKudo2026-01-15 18:37
This, it's not exclusive to genshin and gacha, there's been multiple mangakas that have received threats for the official couples, the endings, killing off some character, etc, a lot of people on social media are just too used to the anonymity and are quite unhinged
Lin_Mie2026-01-15 16:41
I mean Nowsaday people are just Toxic
I doubt Shipping toxicity is only in Gacha game
Like I have so many other examples like Harry potter (AO3 war is hell), Boku no hero academia, JJK, countless other anime ☠️☠️
theytookallusernames2026-01-15 16:43
These kids would stress themselves to an aneurysm if they were in the Touhou community lmao
Prisma_Lane2026-01-15 17:10
Normal and everyday part of every other fandom? Don't know what fandom you've been in but shipping wars on the internet have always been controversial in a lot of communities.
It's not even just anime or gacha. Have you seen any Asian idols? You can't even hint at a straight romance or you're committing career suicide. Japanese and Korean idols have it the worst. Their fandoms are literally just one step away from exploding at any minor hints or misinterpretations.
If you only expose yourself to gacha fandom dramas, then yeah, you'll naturally associate it with gacha, but trust me, this is very, **very** common in any online space.
Koekelbag2026-01-15 19:08
Definitely not a [gacha community only](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ShipToShipCombat) experience, if there's an entire TVtropes page for it.
Genprey2026-01-15 19:32
It's a few things, but to clarify: anime and even reality shows have this problem.
What makes gacha stand out is the simple fact that they invite a broader range of individuals with different interests. When we take, say, Oshi No Ko, most conversations center around ships among the main cast, so while there is discourse, it's relatively controlled.
Gacha games, however, tend to add in 'self inserts' into the equation, so not only do we have some discourse between, say, someone who ships one character with another, we also have those who prefer MC ships, which invites another layer of chaos.
In general, the more centralized a player demographic is the 'calmer' it tends to be. As we look at something like Reverse:1999 and the Madoka series, the fanbase is predominantly female players who are either apart of or supporters of the LBGTQ communities. As such, there's less chance for 'hot topics' to turn into drama like what we see in larger/broader gacha communities that get more political and aggressive.
sopunny2026-01-15 19:51
Gacha games subtly encourage people to get obsessed over characters. It's not something most people would notice, but if you *were* the kind of person to get obsessed then you'll be affected. It's how these devs get people to spend hundreds on a video game character
bryn_irl2026-01-15 16:28
As a side note, though certainly not one that fixes the root of the problem, following fandom/character tags on tumblr is a good way to find new artists if you're looking for new places!
SireTonberry-2026-01-15 15:14
This company is so shit man
ShuricanGG2026-01-15 15:18
Hoyo limiting people social media, yea not surprised
LalaluLapin2026-01-15 15:21
This is really frustrating because I'm of two minds on the subject. On one hand, I don't think official voice actors should be sharing anything that delves into specific fandom things, like shipping or interpretations, because people believe for some reason that VAs are an authority on a character. Liking a theory or a ship ""confirms"" it for some people and people use it to harass others who think differently. 99% I see this happen in EN circles, while in places like JP or CN, I rarely see them throw their hats into the ring on it, presumably for this exact reason. There needs to be a professional distance because, intentionally or not, VAs reflect how people interpret the characters.
On the other hand, they don't really do anything WRONG by liking ship art and harassing them to this point is just disgusting behavior, especially since the most recent final straw seems to be homophobic incels harassing Emi Lo. I hope people will see this move as more of a way to protect their talent instead of seeing it as a "censorship" issue. It sucks that it's even general fanart though, I'm assuming they're just not taking any chances.
burntpankeki2026-01-15 16:09
I feel like that puts VAs at some kind of too high of a pedestal. VAs are people too who enjoy the game as well; and I think they should be allowed to enjoy the game as a fan as they are an employee. It's quite literally not their fault fans are forming parasocial relationships with the characters they voice.
LalaluLapin2026-01-15 16:19
Don't get me wrong, I agree. I don't think VAs should be put on a pedastal. But that doesn't change the fact that they ARE an employee and a defining notable feature of the game and brand, which comes with responsibilities. It's not their fault that people take their word as law (although some of them have acted like they are an authority), but the sad truth is that people do and it has a noticeable effect on fandom circles.
At the very least, I don't think they should be doing it on their official accounts. Like I said, it's frustrating because in a perfect world, VAs would be able to fan out the way any other fan does. But that's just not feasible for a game with a fandom as big and contentious as Hoyoverse's.
Yurand_2026-01-15 18:11
While yes I agree. VA's are people too. It does make sense for Hoyo to do this. The community is freaking immatured and a bunch of rabid people. Whatever VA does, is just a fuel to whatever drama the community is stirring up to.
que_sarasara2026-01-15 16:26
The major issue is the EN community largely sees the VA literally as the character they voice, and not as their own person.
Fullpotentialk2026-01-15 23:01
A lot of the vas themselves told them to not do that. It’s funny as a joke but if it’s used in a serious manner. It’s just parasocial.
Ray7012026-01-15 15:21
Wow that's stupid.
0__REDACTED__02026-01-15 15:24
Bruh wtf
HatiLeavateinn2026-01-15 15:27
Quick, someone make the meme of the guy (fans) shooting the VAs in the couch and asking, "Why would mihoyo do this?"
shulk_got_link2026-01-15 15:43
people canceling each other over shipping...end up hoyo need to take firm grip on their vas .. sad
cpvideodestroyer2026-01-15 15:46
Yeah I agree with some of the comments. I think it’s a combination of wanting to protect the VAs from harassment and to protect their image/branding. I do think they go hand in hand since the harassment VAs get for sharing fan arts makes Hoyo look really bad too.
Cheap-Dependent-16962026-01-15 15:49
there goes my fellows Jahoda's Witnesses 😟
multificionado2026-01-15 16:07
Oh, that's going to hurt Kachina's ENG VA (who's also an artist).
SeraviEdalborez2026-01-15 16:35
She’s also voicing the current newest character in ZZZ and she definitely has been (excited about) sharing art.
Fullpotentialk2026-01-15 22:59
I think she can share them since she draws them herself?
multificionado2026-01-16 00:31
Yeah...mostly on Instagram.
myrellev2026-01-15 16:20
Probably for the best, fandoms get messy fast.
michaelman902026-01-15 16:28
I don't get why people are blaming Twitter when this is a Hoyo decision. Is it weird that Hoyo themselves wouldn't want people they're paying to be sharing art that misrepresents their characters? If it's fans it's whatever but the VAs are basically employees of Hoyo and should maintain at least a little bit of professionalism when handling the IP.
zappingbluelight2026-01-15 16:42
Hoyo probably doesn't want to interference with VA personal life, but I assumed they got spammed by those vocal minority, it is slowing down their CS. It's just annoying on both end.
this_is_no_gAM32026-01-15 16:46
This is bullshit, why do people get triggered so much man
Anwedraw2026-01-15 16:52
As a half Japanese, I was surprised by Columbina’s English VA posting of that meme image. For Japanese understanding it is a clear NG, although it’s very understandable that the VA didn’t mean to do anything bad. But Hoyo does not tell about their own characters that they “date” or something for a reason. When a VA who is assumed to be “halfway” the brand ambassador, posts or shares something like this, it is not appropriate.
On the other hand, as a drawer (artist) myself, I feel it is a shame that some art now won’t get the attention it deserves. Probably VAs won’t bother enough to ask permission each time they want to share an image in social media…
WingsDT2026-01-15 17:12
I feel like this is also standard in Japan? Like you need official approval to do something with the characters you voice. For example, even in recent popular Sandrone VA streams, she mentioned having approval from Hoyo to say those Sandrone lines on stream.
Anwedraw2026-01-15 20:15
Yeah, I was watching that stream as well. She was very careful, and that’s really how Japanese (and probably Chinese too) voice actors always keep in mind the brand they’re working for. But it is also true, that in western culture you presume that you are allowed to do anything as long it is not clearly forbidden…
AzusaFuyu2026-01-15 17:44
What was the meme image she posted?
AllHailtheJellyfish2026-01-15 16:58
This does explain why Alejandro hasn’t posted much about Jing Yuan this time leading up to LNY… he used to show off all the fanart people did and works he personally commissioned. I get why Hoyo is mega locking down their image (thanks rabid fans, thanks) but it’s also very sad to see some of the VAs I kept coming back for not being being able to be as enthusiastic about their characters and fandom anymore because of it.
SomnusRain2026-01-15 17:10
It’s because of these filthy fans who’s got nothing to do but to harrass and hate VAs
andres12322026-01-15 17:27
Man I don't care which side anyone is on, anyone harassing VAs for anything related to fictional characters sucks. Don't hurt real people because of fiction. And don't feed the trolls. If someone comes around just to start problems block them. People forget the old rule.
Commentaires
edit: guys spamming hoyos inboxes about what the vas post on twitter is also harassment
Please use logic
Genshin fandom didn't create shit. Do you think TLOU2 Abby's VA/model actress was harrassed online because of the genshin community?
Having terminally online people kick up a storm at your employees' sharing of art is not good for them or for you. You can still find all these screenshots of "take down threads" assuming Sean Chiplock (Diluc's voice actor) is either homophobic or supporter of incest, etc. over one retweet of fan art. Even if you're full on *soulless money corpo inc.,* you wouldn't want that shit on your employees when their voicing your biggest audience pull (the characters).
also people were 100% complaining when nazeeh and alejandro supported those, just like its going on with columbina and sandrone
VAs are by no means an official source but some people treat them like they are so "X retweeted it" sometimes makes people think something is official art, canon information, etc
it's why you always see "The opinions expressed here are my own and not necessarily reflective of EMPLOYER" on stuff
Where?
23m views and 300k likes now lol
VAs sharing ship fanart is really rare outside of EN fandoms tbh it's not really considered professional and Asian fandom spaces value separation of those spaces (i.e. separating shipping stuff from canon spaces etc).
This community is dog
Usually im the first one to shit on reddit stupidly strict rules and overreaching moderation/admins but sometimes theyre a necessity for sure
Hoyo did good, by curtailing some of their proclavities.
Couple Art is risky?
Hoyo's probably not a fan of their voice talent getting jumped every time they share whatever people decide is the "the wrong fan art" that week.
I don't understand what compel people to get upset about artwork. It's just fictional art, right? Don't like it, scroll down. Why do people feel the need to be rude?
I'm pretty sure if you rolled up in Alejandro Saab's streams calling him Cyno, that you'd get banned or timed out by like the 3rd or 4th time.
Some VA have been harassed and so was Hoyo with angry messages due to VA reposting ships that hurt Twitter trolls’ egos. Just look at Skirk and Rerir.
twitter is a social media since when (officially at least because unofficially it's usually even worse lmao) can your employer decide what you post on social media?
Notice how the VA specifically said arts needs hoyo approval thus most likely it's arts from hoyo characters etc.
So if Ororon's VA is saying he can't do it anymore because Hoyo said so, then it's probably in the contract.
It's the same thing that happened to ZZZ Yuzuha's VA a few months ago. They go after any VA that shows a progressive view about their characters and push Hoyo to take a position in the matter.
No matter what community I go to, shippers somehow ALWAYS manage to be a problem.
People don't like to hear it, because ignorance is bliss.
She could be pairing Columbina with whoever she'd like. The problem arises when homophobic groups decide to dunk on the VAs for their views. The same way it was Columbina and Sandrone, it could've been anything else. They just see FxF and think that's the end of the world.
Aglaea
Dr. Ratio
Kafka
Skirk
Columbina
You caused this yourself.
No idea what Kafka's did?
Skirk was the only one that actually involved Ship Discourse. Again, didn't follow, didn't care.
So I can see why this is happening.
You can easily read this as their only way to protect VAs on that front.
Not to mention that the gay shippers harassed the va for the sound she made when eating the candy with the traveler .
We've had several EN VAs get harrassed out of the community because they dared show artwork a loud minority didn't like, so this is basically a safeguard for the VAs for it to stop happening.
Great job
Is exactly how i felt
Is gacha a lot of kids first experience in fan communities or???
Correction: when it *should be* a normal and everyday part of fandom
Some people act like Genshin/gacha is particularly bad(and to be completely fair, we do have some problems in the fandom), but this has been a staple in fandom culture for a while, even if in different forms/for different reasons
I doubt Shipping toxicity is only in Gacha game
Like I have so many other examples like Harry potter (AO3 war is hell), Boku no hero academia, JJK, countless other anime ☠️☠️
At the very least, I don't think they should be doing it on their official accounts. Like I said, it's frustrating because in a perfect world, VAs would be able to fan out the way any other fan does. But that's just not feasible for a game with a fandom as big and contentious as Hoyoverse's.
On the other hand, as a drawer (artist) myself, I feel it is a shame that some art now won’t get the attention it deserves. Probably VAs won’t bother enough to ask permission each time they want to share an image in social media…
