Free 5 star standard character for f2p c0

Hello everyone!

I just started playing the game yesterday and finally decided to give it a try. So far, I am really enjoying it and it has been fun and entertaining. I noticed that the game offers a choice of 1 out of 8 five-star characters at the start. From what I have learned, getting duplicate copies of a character allows you to increase their constellation level from C0 to C1 and so on. I have also learned that guaranteeing a new five-star character can cost around $350.

Because of this, I plan to play as a free-to-play, C0 player and approach the game in a casual and relaxed way, focusing on exploration and content that is reasonably achievable without heavy spending. I am having a hard time deciding which character to choose, though. Most guides and resources seem to assume that you either already have strong and expensive characters or plan to obtain them in the near future. There is not much information about which characters perform well if you do not plan on getting duplicates or pairing them with other high-cost characters.

Could someone please help me decide which character would be the best choice under these conditions? I understand that this approach is not optimal, but as a brand-new player, getting duplicate five-star characters or building teams around other expensive units feels unrealistic.

At the moment, I am leaning toward Jean, since she seems versatile with both healing and damage. I have also considered Keqing and Mona, but I do not yet have enough knowledge or experience to understand which of them would be more valuable given my situation, meaning no duplicates and no other expensive characters.

No five star is necessary. The game isn't hard enough for that. The end game content requires some good builds but by the time/level you can give a reasonable attempt at them, you'll already have a basic idea of what builds and chars you'd need to clear them.

As for choosing one, Jean is an excellent choice.

The main reason why people only talk about other 5 stars is that the game is extremely easy outside 1-2 endgame where you have to begin building them. Characters also don't pair well together. Most guides only talk about cons on 4 stars as 5 stars it's all base. What character you would want is usually based on what characters yo have. This is a team based game so unless an individual unit is good you're still building around them.

Mona is the best for general endgame out of those but she also is a support that helps boost damage. That's a bad pick as you still need to have a dps.

Kequing is a meh DPS who really wants other characters.

Jean is considered great for new players as she has a heal on burst for your whole party. Quite frankly she has been dominating the hardest endgame mode with abuse to fall damage.

The choices are just bad in general unless you have 1 specific use in mind for the absolute endgame. Pick whoever as you'll probably stop using them when you get your actual pulled unit if it's not a healer.

Jean is a good healer she don’t really do damage outside of fall damage and that can only work on few enemies

Keqing is the easiest to pilot but as there is ineffa on current banners I don’t think she is a good choice

I don’t really recommend mona she is good for mainly big damage showcases but nothing outside of it

Diluc can be good with a very specific team however pyro has a very large roster that are better than him

Please don’t QIQI or Dehya

Idk about Mizuki as I don’t have her

So what i would recommend is actually Tighnari (if you don’t mind playing chagg try e attack now character) he only need Fischl and or ineffa and the best thing he can abuse a 3 star bow very effectively (I think it name is slingshot with Crit rate mainstat, most likely you will have few of it so you can superimposed it and he can be ready to go)

Unfortunately, not everyone has a story quest where you can test them out as a trial character.
For the early to mid game, you cannot go wrong with either. So pick who you like. They'll be with you for a while.

Jean is good, yes. I myself chose Keqing starting out and she carried me early game, but so did free four-stars like Noelle and Kayea. At some point you will also get free Xiangling, she's also good.

The story and exploration can be done with just four-stars and it gives you lots of pulls if you're patient. I cleared first three regions without any five-stars, just saving my pulls for characters that I would really like.

Eventually in my first year, I got 7 limited five-stars without spending, 3 of them with their constellations (simply because they were my favorite characters, not because cons are necessary or smth), plus 3 standard five-stars. And lots of very useful four-stars.

If you don't care much about every new shiny five-star that's being released, and treat this game as an open-world that's fun to explore, you will have a blast with any characters.

As f2p the game has currently over 600 wishes in permanent content if you are dedicated enough, that means you can easily guarantee any 5* you like that comes around, so if you have a 5* that you like, and a standard character works with them, then pick that one.

As for which to choose, it depends on your gameplay.

I personally would choose mona in every new account I make, for various reasons, witch synergies and bonus to combining weapon material.

Jean is a solid choice if you want a comfy healer, she also had some end game cheese going for her in the last few hardest end game mods, and will probably have few in the future too, but at some point they will pull the plug on that.

Shoutout to Keqing, that if you do not have any proper exploration units (all hail Varesa), she can be somewhat comfy to main early game since she can blink short distances

Shoutout to Tignari for being the best damage dealer on the standard banner, but with power creep until he is C6 he is not that competitive with newer gacha damage dealers.

Qiqi Deyha Midzuki and Diluc were found dead in a ditch.
