Columbina and bubble diaper...

I was playing the story quest after pulling Bina, and the part where Aether is flying in the air and has that bubble diaper for some reason while Bina has full panties showing whenever you glide with your camera pointed just slightly up... is just confusing.

I thought the bubble diapers were added to keep ratings or something? How does Bina just bypass that lol, its so weird seeing the diaper appear in the main story on Aether while Bina has full "underwear" shots.

I remember that is a fontaine diving or swimming in depth animation, cmiiw. Columbina is added later to the game and they may fogoten about that part. I have not revisit fontaine in a long while, the only region I mostly care less. Haven't done the archon quest in fontaine too.

Nah its not diving, Aether is in the air in a story quest scene flying (in the new story quest) and has that bubble blur for some reason haha, Bina may have the diaper when actually diving, but just gliding you can see everything lol.

The scene where Traveler is in the scene flying uses the same animation as when the Traveler is pulled along by strong currents underwater - and that includes the bubble diaper. It's different from gliding animation. When you glide with Traveler, there's no diaper, either. And while I haven't tried it yet, I'm assuming that if you use an underwater current with Columbina, she'll get a diaper, too.

tl;dr: Gliding has no diaper, always. Riding a current has bubbles, always. Any scene that uses the current-riding animation will keep the bubbles.

Ahh okay, thanks I didn't realize it was the same animation! So that makes complete sense, still confused about the point of the diaper anyway though, given a few characters' designs, and esp Bina's haha. Was just curious

I mean, the point is censorship. When you're following a character diving underwater, it's tough to find any sort of natural-feeling camera angle that isn't going to be aimed right up the skirt of any character wearing one. It's not as much of a problem in the case of gliding. Unless the player is deliberately trying to sneak a peek, they'll generally have the camera aimed at the character's back so they can keep an eye in the ground.

While every such character is technically wearing "shorts" of some kind, it can still come across as lewd - and Hoyo has gotten in trouble with the Chinese government in the past for immodesty in the game. It's not too surprising that they felt they needed to do something.

When they reused the animation for the "flight" scene, they COULD have tweaked it to remove the bubbles, but there were still Lumine players to consider.

It's due to how the censor was implemented in the first place. It only applies to the player-controlled characters.

I think i didn't clarify well enough, I'm not talking about when diving in this case. In the new story quest, Aether has it while just flying during a part of it. While you control him. But Bina just straight up has exposed "underwear" when she's gliding (while you play her normally.)

The aerial version of the "bubbles" was also present for Venti's Hex quest. Not sure if they've used it elsewhere. Maybe the "Colors out of Space" quest?

But still, it's a different system. It was added for "swimming" animation because the characters are positioned horizontal, with the camera able to be positioned right up their posteriors.

The gliding animation's always been like that. The camera angle is restricted to theoretically prevent full upskirt, but of course the efficacy of which highly varies from character to character.

Ah okay, thanks, yeah it was just extremely easy with Bina, I didn't even mean to, and had a screen full of moon goddess butt haha, so was just curious about the point of the bubble.

I didnt realize travelers animation in that scene was the same as swimming either so thanks!

More specifically, it was the jetstream version of the swimming tech, rather than the basic free-swim.

A lot of flying animations in the game just reuse the same animation as some swimming sections in Fontaine. However in the original swimming animation there was only one character, the one you play as, so they didn't program a second bubble to follow a different character.

Then they just reused the animation without adding a second bubble.
