I like it as well. It’s just so confusing because I can not figure out the logic for why sometimes Aether is in the new outfit or the default one in in game cutscenes

The only time I've ever seen them wear it in a quest is during the AQ, which sucks so damn much because it really breaks the immersion and we don't get to see the Traveler interact with other characters in his new fit HOYO FIX THIS

I mostly enjoyed it but I gotta admit I was skipping every other characters' dialogues so I could get the skin earlier. BUT the story had my full undivided attention whenever Il Dottore was on screen, as well as when the harbinger's were interacting. The twist with Columbina was pretty slick, annndd I already knew about the spaceship logs and story because I read the leaks.

all in all, 8/10 probably would be higher if I took my time

There are save points, that’s what the scroll and quill are. Act VII finishing seemed to be a “You’re free to do whatever you want right now” to me at least.

Directly after finishing the AQ I went to the Columbina cave and since I wasn’t up to date with the SC I got an old one with Lumine being in the old outfit there (and Luonnotar being there which was also weird lol)

I did the same and Aether had the new outfit for the last Quest and the drink mixing game (and I was fully expecting it to revert to the base one)

Its presumably going to be "new outfit for stuff 6.4 and after", excluding events.

Anything in 6.3 they have to assume you do the AQ last. And events that don't require 6.3 completed for 'best experience' will probably use the OG skins since they can't guarantee you are there yet.

They're actually separate models too, your player character is invisible while the cutscene version is on-screen

Yeah. I'm just saying as of now it inconsistently moves between the old and the new costume for the time being until maybe a later patch.

Imo the devs probably knows it's happening but it will take awhile to properly implement the traveller wearing the right fit for all the cutscenes.

I personally still prefer the original design, I've always liked it a lot. It feels "unfamiliar", as in something you don't see people in Teyvat wear, without being too futuristic and looking out of place too much. Which is why I don't love the new outfit. I also prefer the braid over the ponytail. My only issue with the original is the exposed midriff, I just don't like that.
