I like Dottore as a villain and i like Columbina a lot as well. Who else is with me ?
So where ever i look at the fandoms of these characters are just at war. The Dottore mains/FatuiHQ lot hate Columbina so much and obviously there are a lot of Dottore haters (though that extends beyond Columbina fans). Meanwhile there is me who enjoys a good enough villain but also enjoyed Columbina's character.
I never bought into the ''eldritch horror'' headcanon people were convincing themselves into for Columbina and i don't think some ship moments with Traveller ruins a character (especially when she has equal if not more ship bait with Sandrone too). I enjoyed Columbina's character, her relationship with Sandrone and Arlecchino was a joy as well and she had good chemistry and interactions with a lot of other characters and even a good conversation with DAIN of all people. I think she is a good character that satisfied me
And i enjoy Dottore as well. I always enjoyed villains and i think he does his job extremely well, even kinda outsmarting ALICE of all people to keep her busy before conducting his experiment, being the whopping 2nd harbinger despite not being some good or immortal (normall) like Columbina or Capitano and earning his power and rank through his intellect. He carries weight as a villain and requires a lot of powerful forces to work together to be beaten and he has enough characterization to not be completely one off while also still being an evil pos
So it kinda saddens me that there doesn't seem to be much people who likes both. Who else is with me ?

That same train of thought goes for Capitano as well, regardless of how he lost against Mavuika.
Rare non-uwu-fied character.
Columbina was shallow at first but the AQ made her story amazing. She's so well written. Waifu-bait or whatever I don't care, as a gay man, this shit is peak.
I'm bi and I don't even understand where this even came from.
He's manipulative and it's very scary how many people irl are easily convinced by this.
Reminds me of atheist (forget his name) who stated that he would murder and rape the number of times he wants. Which is zero. Like why offer that power if I don't want to do those things?
Of course Dottore will feel incredibly novel by comparison
However since OP browses circlejerk subs like FatuiHQ, can't say that they are not tained with external sources contributing to how they feel.
Like heck, Alhaitham is one of my favorite playable characters, but I'd agree he's kind of an asshole and wouldn't be fun IRL.
Exactly. Most of my favorite characters in the game are people who I will absolutely not get along with IRL. And the characters I find plain and boring are probably the ones I would actually want to hang around with IRL.
I can appreciate them because they are fictional and entertaining to watch. So if some character was absolutely insane and dramatic, it'd be entertaining. And if a character was just acting normally and polite then it would be boring to me because I already see that everydat.
His words were hollow but so convincing that a lot of players were deceived by his offers. It's scary how this also works irl. So many people engage in tribalism(like gacha tribalism) just because one person of influence says so.
Not every villain needs to have their nuance and tragic backstory/reason, once in a while, a complete dick of an individual is perfectly fine as a villain.
An intelligent Narcissist with 0 empathy whatsoever.
Not saying that excuses his actions, but more so to understand him better. (Similar to how we know of Rerir's past and experienced his actions, but the story nor Columbina forgave him. Just had him reflect on what he did.)
With the current information, he's just that. Until there's evidence proving otherwise, no reason to headcanon shit and get disappointed.
Disney would do well to remember that.
Nonetheless, he hurt columbina, and sandrone, so there is no going back for him after this on my pages.
If they wanted a story where the evil wins, you can just look at real life corporate and politics.
I like Columbina a little. I don't care that she's not an "eldritch horror" or has the "waifu bait" status. She has fine character developement and her interractions with some characters (Sandrone and Arlecchino mostly) were kinda fun, though besides that she didn't captivate/entertain me as much as all previous regional gods.
Meanwhile the relationship between Traveler and Columbina is clearly written to be special and quasi-romantic, so...
only children would think this way, so why would anyone care or listen to them?
Personally I loved cast of Nod Krai, including hating Dottore but enjoying him as a villain.
Some terminally online people just get too into it.
But Dottore is the only character who genuinely lets me have full attention, like I can’t take my eyes off his story :)
Also they better be paying Dottore's EN VA some crazy bucks coz his performance was superb. Last time I felt this chills from a Villain character was Jhin's old VA (League of Legends)
The whole point of dottore interest in the traveler is because it is another way for Dottore to pander to his own ego
He doesn't care nor love a bit the traveler but he loves the idea of putting them in a cage and owning a descender because it makes him feel "big". The whole thing is to show how fake Dottore is, fake as his moon
However Columbina is the opposite, she has trouble befriending people, the first one she really accepted in her inner circle was the traveler who tear down those wall, but while those wall were hard to take down , her love was pristine and pure and the other friends she accepted (the harbinger, nodkrai cast, etc) were truly sincere affection
The opposition is of a true and false trimoon divinity, a comparison is like parabol of Satan vs god or any equivalent
It is also why Dottore is a great character, his false nature, self admitted lack of love in other, is something he is fully aware of and doesn't dwell on it, he is one vs the world and still pulled up and put said world through a few rounds in the ring
Funnily enough, at some point through the story, he felt somewhat miserable, like if you remove his narcissist nature and arrogance, it's felt hollow from there onwards.
I personally am intrigued how it goes from here as I think this is only a segment of his, that only consist of his part in life where he is at his highest as such his immense arrogance and disregard for anything else.
I'm also generally a fan of villain characters, so I have no trouble enjoying Dottore. He's pretty mild compared to other villains I like, like Hannibal or Homelander or Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund version specifically). But despite Dottore being more Sunday Morning Cartoon villain, I think they do a good job at making Dottore interesting rather than a one-note villain-of-the-week type of deal.
That doesn’t mean you like them as a *person*. People need to learn to separate the character from the person. Would I absolutely despise Dottore if he were a real dude? Absolutely, his actions are cruel and deplorable, and I was happy to see him defeated. But he’s not real. He’s a character, and a superbly written one at that. I don’t agree with his ideology and I detest his actions, but I can almost see where he’s coming from and find him cool as a character.
Idk if this is a hot take or not, but to be frank the people that judge others for liking villains as if that makes them genuinely bad people, or get genuinely upset when someone wishes for a villain to be playable are not very smart imo. It shows a lack of media literacy and inability to separate the villain’s *actions and person* from the fictional *character*.
I also find it weird when people genuinely *hate* a villain. And not just in a “*ugh I hate what you’ve done to the other characters, and I hate you for being cruel and wanna see you get what you deserve but I still see you as a well written character and appreciate you as an antagonist*” way but in a genuine vitriolic, personal hatred, wishing the writers never created that character, wanting them gone, it’s just so parasocial and odd.
I’d be all for actual playable VILLAINS and not just morally grey/ambiguous characters if only people wouldn’t get so butthurt about the idea.
I used to not care very much about Columbina. I thought she was just some fatuus with a death flag and I’m glad I was proven wrong. She’s very loveable and grows on you.
Columbina stepped up big time recently from being literally a damselette in distress to having lots of independent and big brain moments in the most recent patch. Character development approved!
I do think both Columbina and Sandrone got obvious rewrites but tbh idrc enough to mind it lol
Some people just confuse liking a character = agreeing/supporting the character.
Also, i had to loom up if he was the same VA for Albert Wesker caise damn did he sound like him, lol. But not.
I mean, you mentioned FatuiHQ and DottoreMains so nonchalantly it almost seems you dodged past ever even trying to mention Columbina mains for that sake, which itself takes screenshots from FatuiHQ and then goes ahead and discusses how everyone there is "misogynistic" and a "freak".
Every single piece of context pre 6.0 around her made her seem unsettling and uncomfortable, she was singing on her coworker's coffin, Childe, Scara and Arle seemed unsettled by her and the only design we had besides her veil were the Seraphim wings headpiece she wears. But instead of being some angel angry at their creator, she's the most white bread Harbinger, if you can even call her a Harbinger. And let's be honest, she got turned into waifubait, which is a first for the main leader of a new nation. Not Raiden, not Furina, and not even Mavuika were as shoved in our faces as Columbina was.
Dottore is the direct opposite of Columbina.
He's been consistent, the same we've known since before the game even lauched, the same we've seen in Sumaru, the same one who Fatui fans wanted since Winter's Night Lazzo, and he was the direct opposite of what Nod-Krai Columbina represented. He was unapologetically antagonistic, manipulative, psychopathic, and that was so refreshing for the people tired of everyone just immediately liking the Traveler. Dottore in 6.3 does NOT like the Traveler. He sees them as immature, naive, and as someone wasting their life, and so he *promises* us something we want in exchange for our help, which had even some parts of the playerbase agreeing with him.
So, Fatui fans who were disappointed with Columbina (some of them were already unhappy with Capitano's fall) naturally gravitated towards the current main antagonist within the Fatui because fans of the "antagonistic organization" want the leaders of the organization to be antagonistic.
Even now, we have people BEGGING for the Tsarita to be the major antagonist in Snezhnaya and not have all the blame be put on Pierro and make her seem like an oblivious fool on her own nation.
i saw someone mention in another thread that Dottore is "what we imagined Columbina would be (detached, amoral, creepy etc)", and while i don't exactly agree with that take, i do think Dottore *was* at some point supposed to be a foil to her character arc showing how you could take similar traits and become hyperbolically evil if not for the power of friendship guiding you to a more moral path. But that aspect rings hollow because Columbina only acts that way for literally the first like 5 minutes of screentime out of the 4+ hours she gets across the 8 Acts.
Also imo the "they were actually friends all along and had tea parties" is still kinda bullshit because all the tiny bits of drip we got about her character was pretty much about how mysterious she was, and even within just the Nod Krai AQs it feels inconsistent (even Columbina pointed out that Sandrone would never open up to her yet somehow she has a flashback to them having a big heart-to-heart in the middle of Act 8), it really makes her backstory feel like it had a lot of rewrites at some point.
While i like columbina overall, i feel like some of her interactions with the traveller are more of a fan service than anything, i like her dynamic with other characters much much more and i'd love to see more of that instead.
FatuiHQ have been losing their mind ever since natlan's AQ, it kind of lost its identity of fatui roleplay sub along the way to just be a place for people that hate what the writing turned into, i can't fully disagree with that as i do personally believe the writing still peaked in fontaine, i do wish they still respected genshin as a work of fiction and didn't attack other people for still liking the new stories.
And as for Bina I adore her, she's so cute and her interactions have been a joy to see.
So yeah, I agree with you op lol
Even though that can be just passed off as Dottore's narcissistic remarks. But you can definitely see either Dottore is slightly influenced by Columbina, or Columbina is influenced by Dottore, even if it's only by a little bit.
One particular instances is Columbina's "You have [One Chance]" when they were on the moon, the same way Dottore gave everyone one chance. The way they ragebait other is also kinda similar.
As for Dottore, I think EN VA does a lot for him, he's perfect for this role. Menacing, intimidating, mysterious. You know it's that type that keeps cards close to his chest and will never reveal his true intentions. His "bravo" still echoes in my brain. His introduction in Sumeru is still my favorite of all characters (well, topped recently by Alice, but it's a totally different vibe). When the trumpets played for Dottore, I got goosebumps all over my body. It was so grand. It was THE villain.
Whoever wrote him, must have been reading a lot of books. It's not easy to write such a smart character. A character from your novel won't ever be smarter than you, because you're the creator. You're coming up with his plans, ideas, and punchlines. Whatever he says or does, was created by you.
He was spitting fire for 10 minutes straight, there was a lot of truth in what he said, and he came up with reasons so compelling that the traveler considered switching sides for a moment. And I sympathized with him. I have no idea what I'd do if I was in his shoes. I actually think Dottore had a chance; he was really convincing. The dealbreaker was the part with killing random people for fun. If not for that... who knows.
I hope he'll be back. There are already theories about more segments of him being alive, but I'm not convinced. If the hint was the ending, it could've been caused by the awakening of Heavenly Principles as well. Who's to say. In the Shades' animation we learned that they're about to make a move soon, so I expect Shades to appear before 7.0. Perhaps Dottore's arc is done for now, but I'm sure Nod-Krai will bring more surprises and big reveals.
Not an adepti, not some kind of mythical creature, no special lineage, no vision, no delusion, no abyssal powers, no ancient dragon spirit in his pocket, not a khaenrian cursed with immortality...
Just a normal human. Everything he has or uses is his own work. All the power he has has has been achieved through his own smarts, cunning, and hard work.
Sure, he used existing power (the moons) to achieve his peak, but could anyone have done that? Zandik is the only one who could've pulled that off. So I'd say he earned himself that power. It was his own smarts and cunning that got him there.
Regarding Columbina, at first, I was a bit skeptical of her, but she started to grow a lot more in me specially through her interactions with Nod-Krai cast and her Fatui colleagues, and made me feel a bit upset about Signora's demise as well. Now, I will not say Columbina is my favorite character, but I still like her a lot
It just feels refreshing to have a **major** villain (not some WQ/SQ one-off) that is genuinely evil without redeeming values. Gray villains like Ei and Scara are great, but if every villain is gray, contrast is lost and they lose what makes them interesting in the first place. We need contrast, and Dottore is that genuine evil villain. (Abyss is too, but Abyss feels too non-personal to treat as a character)
As for Dottore he's amazing simply because the way he behaves makes you want to punch him in the face and if baddies can achieve that in game/film then they have made a great baddie imo
Doctor finally being what i thought and hope harbinger would be although i was hoping for his comic version. Despite being such a troublesome in story, without him the story gotta be boring. Also, im very open for him to be playable although i do wish he at least not damage the story too much. More harbinger is better and i hope all harbinger is playable.
Damselette finally being playable is huge W and we finally got a non dps harbinger although i way prefer the eldritch horror theme that fans had put her. Despite really hating the ship bait, i do think it's very cute and matching the vibe that they try to portray. I'm very open with her being as it is although i do have wish she turn out differently. Like i said, more harbinger is better and i hope all harbinger is playable.
Yes, that's included Fair lady and Captain. (Now off i go skipping another nod krai character praying varka banner sooner or later)
