I don't get people who insist that the harbingers should all be the enemies of traveler
I saw a lot of people on TikTok and twitter saying that hoyo did the harbingers dirty but turning them into "uwu waifu bait" and "wasted characters" just because they became friends or allies of traveler. they lost their "aura", that feeling of dread so they say.
I kinda disagree with this. ever since the winter night's lazzo, yes they were mysterious and rightfully so, but people already put labels on them saying they're bad and enemies in the future. these people saying that the harbingers lost their charisma is not reading the dialogue on archon quests obviously since all of them had reasons to become friends and allies of the traveler.
when I saw the winter night's lazzo, I saw the harbingers as morally grey, like rose quartz from Steven universe, where they can be good and bad at the same time. this was reinforced by arlecchino's story quest, she can be a badass on the battle and to enemies yet she can be compassionate towards Fontaine and her children. it's just disheartening that people hate so much on sandrone and columbina for being the character they have become because they want their labels to stick.

Interestingly enough, if we paint any one character or faction with a single brush on first impression, we'd certainly be missing the point more often than not.
So you're absolutely right- there's much *much* more to the Fatui than meets the eye.
Isn’t a good thing they get along?
I remember a long time ago people wondered how Traveler would get to Snezhnaya if all the Harbingers were ruthless villains. By giving more depth to some of the Harbingers in Nodkrai, it makes the narrative easier and more nuanced.
Furthermore, why does it seem like there's only criticism directed at female characters? Childe almost destroyed Liyue, but since then he's been treated like the same kind of friend as Amber or Kaeya (who, by the way, could have gone to help Varka, why not?).
Thinking about it, it's Childe who seems kind of wasted, since I think he said he would adventure with Traveler if he didn't have obligations. He was a punching bag in Fontaine and was absent from the battles in Natlan and Nodkrai (there's even a meme of him reacting to missing that opportunity). At this rate, he's going to lose a big fight in his own homeland.
Capitano seems fine to me; he does seem to have a more nuanced and balanced moral perspective on things. I think there's a chance he'll wake up from that slumber.
There are factions within the Fatui, and some of them have showed hostility towards 'us' or people we're familiar with it, either directly or indirectly. I'm not going to color them as evil, because they're not, but a lot of them have chosen to go with 'the end justify the means' kinda logic, which puts them in a complicated position. Just because we're buddy buddy with some of them, means it erases what they did or are willing to do to get what they want. This is enough for people to consider them enemies.
Idk, this is a complicated topic in the end, it will come down to each person anyway. The devs control the story, so we can only watch.
They're literally aa group of psychos, killers and terrorists...and yet the game tries to make them look less evil just because they're nnice to us...
Not to mention the game goes out of it's way to ignore or erase any crimes they committed...
There's a very byassed morality in this game...characters wwho have done far less are treated more harshly, yet some who have done far worse are treated more sympathetic...depending on who the writers trying to force to be liked...
And the traveller has let their guard down against them so quickly when half of the harbingers were trying to wipe out the traveller literally.
The core word you might be looking for is 'consistency' in treatment.
Everyone should have the chance for redemption, even someone evil as Dottore but that doesn't mean that'll wipe the blood off their hands. It kinda breaks the consistency of how a crimmal is suddenly all goody-two shoes with the MC and how the traveller starts trusting them so blatantly merely after another region.
