What technology would be too out of place in Genshin?
I’m making a Fan-Fic and I have my main character using a Martini-Henry rifle, is such a weapon out of place?

I’m not going to change the weapon, I just want your opinions.

Nothing. They can fit anything to lore.
Chevreuse is already wielding a musket btw.
Ok_Replacement70222026-01-16 05:59
Chevreuse uses a muzzleloader, my character uses a breechloader(and a bayonet too).
While a well trained soldier with a muzzleloader can get off three rounds a minute, four if they’re a friggin magician, a soldier with a breechloader can easily do quadruple that.
babangelsin2026-01-16 06:00
It is great that you know your guns, although do you think that difference really matters when we are talking about what fits in Genshin?
Ok_Replacement70222026-01-16 06:03
Considering there are gods, huge ass monsters, friggin robots, and magic… I think a breechloader isn’t so out of place.
I thank you for your input.

Honestly, rate of fire doesn't matter much in a fantasy setting like Genshin Impact. In Genshin, the playing field is basically level across all types of technology. A robot with a gatling gun is an even match against an archer with a compound bow. Unless the gatling gunner is one of a legion of the dark lord's minions, in which case the archer is going to clean them up by the dozens. :P
But sure, your gun will fit right in. [The Fatui already have riflemen](https://genshin-impact.fandom.com/wiki/Fatui_Skirmisher_-_Pyroslinger_Bracer), after all, though I'm not enough of a gun enthusiast myself to guess what the closest real equivalent for those weapons would be.
Shahadem2026-01-16 10:08
No they can't.
You go too far and you break the audience's suspension of disbelief.
SweetStrawberries142026-01-23 05:05
What suspension of belief? Genshin is litterally SCI-Fantasy. It's a sub genre of sci-fi. They've been sci fi fantasy since Vera's Melancholy was released
YannFrost2026-01-16 05:52
.....do you play genshin? A nuke with laser guided missiles isn't out of place in genshin. It isn't the weapon, it is how it is portrayed.
Ok_Replacement70222026-01-16 05:59
Touché.
Shahadem2026-01-16 10:09
Yes it would be.
TechnicallyHankHill2026-01-16 05:53
Have you SEEN Nod Krai?

Touché.

Smartphones, unironically
Too advanced for some, while also being too primitove for some
VPR2472026-01-16 05:59
Dodocommunication Device
4GRJ2026-01-16 05:59
That's more of a walky talkie
Or some kind of regular phone
VPR2472026-01-16 06:02
For now bro..for now. :P
4GRJ2026-01-16 06:03
Nah, the next time the Dodocommunication Device gets upgraded, it might be too advanced to be considered a smartphone
_Cebu2026-01-16 05:55
~~aliens with spaceships~~
Powerful-Insect-48672026-01-16 05:56
since it fanstaty so unless u main is "transported to another world u" type, u may turn the rifle to that type of ifa gun, chev gun or that kuhvaki gun
Alzusand2026-01-16 05:56
Smartphones. even alice who is an off worlder uses her dodoco as a walkie talkie.
everrything else is fine to some degree.

I want to think that it's only big because she wanted it to be cute for Klee. Also needs to be durable like a nokia. lol
ChaZcaTriX2026-01-16 07:39
Gorou and his FishPhone?
xx_adverb_xx2026-01-16 06:03
Navia has umbrella gun. Chasca has giant flying gun. Chevreuse has rifle gun. Clorinde has pistol gun.
Shade_X162026-01-16 06:03
Maybe a lightsaber
Ok_Replacement70222026-01-16 08:14
The Tsaritsa has a Cryo saber powered by pure Cryo. Instead of melting things, it freezes them until they shatter immediately later.
Agreeable_Low_74032026-01-16 06:36
i think someone mentioned its a post apocalyptic world so anything goes
ChaZcaTriX2026-01-16 07:40
Genshin really gives off "modern Might&Magic" vibes.
Agreeable_Low_74032026-01-16 07:42
mavuika, knich, inefa dont feel like that
Shahadem2026-01-16 10:10
No it doesn't.
It has to fit the chosen time period.
Agreeable_Low_74032026-01-16 10:19
this games got stuff from all sorts of time periods tho? magic, nights guns robots motorcycles rolerblades deuling pistols drones androids. so please tell me the time period genshin takes plce in
RaineMurasaki2026-01-16 08:05
At this point nothing lol. Androids exists, computers, spaceship exists.
HermesPotentia2026-01-16 09:31
Genshin is a sci-fi setting that understands itself through literary symbols. As a fact, nothing is out of bounds but you have to know the lore well enough to know how they would be perceived in Teyvat and how they could be created realistically.

Natlan.
Fontaine was already pushing the limits before the anachronism ruined suspension of disbelief.
Natlan went too far.
You can't have some countries set in the 1600s next to a country from the early 2000s. You have to make a decision what time period you are going to set your game in and then stick to that even if you don't want to.
Nod Krai is obviously too far as well.
If they wanted to make a game about time travel then it wouldn't be an issue.
At this point the game world feels as fake as it is because they broke suspension of disbelief with their out of place technology spread.
Ok_Replacement70222026-01-16 15:26
I also agree.
Let’s say that Natlan and Nod Krai didn’t go cuckoo with their technology, would a breechloading weapon from the 1870’s be too much?
