i LOVE exploring nod krai
i don’t know what it is that’s different about nod krai than the other regions but i maxed out nk exploration within 3 days of its first release, and i’m already almost 100% with the new region. actually i lied i do know why i love it. it’s the COMPASS. and the meeting points! it makes it easy and fun while still posing enough of a challenge to not get boring. i wish they’d make the other compasses upgradable too. i’d rather lose 10 50/50s in a row than explore sumeru desert but i spent hours on nod krai and didn’t want to get off. genshin is sm fun when you don’t complain about every new character region or game mechanic 💕💕💕

So fun I already have the new area at 100% 💀
it happens more with the bigger chests like precious and luxurious, you think you’re just getting one but they’ll pull up with like three :p
NK areas too small and linear, puzzles too easy. The compasses are nice for finishing things off but even without them it's a breeze to get 100%
The desert sucks cause the underground is like Nod Krai, too linear and not open ended, while the above ground is the exact opposite
I don't know how to put it into words how exactly its done it, but Nod Krai has completely re invested me into the game. I take frequent breaks from Genshin in Fontaine and Natlan, but Nod Krai has me hooked
Maybe its just coz I love the cast of characters, I love how everything feels very high quality. I think im emotionally attached to this region in the best ways. I think everyone has a region they love, Nod Krai might just be mine
Here’s hoping we get the compass for older region.
Sumeru was an exception, being more than all other cycles, but while Natlan had fewer map release patches, the amount of map to explore was about the same as usual. There were just more layers to it, with multiple areas being above each other.
It's too early to tell if the Nod Krai cycle will have less to explore (including map areas that could be added for other nations) or if they just delayed map releases for after the AQ because they weren't needed for the story and going there in the middle of the AQ just wouldn't work for the story.
But honestly, I really miss the way exploration used to feel in Inazuma and Sumeru. Natlan and Nod Krai maps are designed such that if you follow quest markers, you will explore nearly all of the map, because they conveniently pull you through the zone on a guided tour. And while that is convenient for making sure you can quickly farm Exploration% to unlock the last compasses, it also means that there are no longer any places for you "to find" anymore. You've seen it all.
Compare the Sea of Bygone Era (which was a beautiful experience), with Enkanomiya; two side maps of places where people have not been in a very long time, both with a guide (for portions) and both with a fairly long world quest associated with it... I loved Canticles of Harmony, for the lore, for the songs and for the cutscenes but the exploration was something that happened incidentally as you passed through, you always knew where you were and you always knew where you were going. Compare that to Enkanomiya, a map that was bigger and with much less direction. Because so much was left to choice, it felt like most of the exploration you did was for you, not because the quest took you there.
Sumeru's desert too managed to capture the feeling of exploring for exploring's sake, in all of the twisting undergrounds. I get why people hated it at the time, because there were no underground maps and because a lot of it felt the same, but if you were diligent and spent time paying attention to your surroundings, it became pretty easy to remember where you were and where all of the teleporters went.
I get why they never did it again though, I wouldn't expect people to want to pay attention in a casual game like Genshin.
Yet I can only hope that maybe one day, they may give players like me more and let us re-experience the joy of stumbling into something bigger than we expected, all of our own accord. Right now, I play without unlocking any of the Statues of the Seven (until I 100% the map) and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes stumbling into something new. It's been good enough for me.
