I have yet to do the Archon Quest (please no one spoil me), but I did fight him on early unlock thingy. I honestly expected it to be a lot harder than it was. Easy to dodge, each of his rift minions that you kill lowers his HP a great deal - barely took a minute or two.
The Natlan dragon on the other hand....

You don't have control over which characters to bring, the game chooses them for you, and just as with all the other Nod-Krai AQ from previous patches one of those mandatory characters is hydro traveler.

For any new boss, I always read the instructions. I have only ever been taken out fully by Childe of all people (in my early days) with his 3 different phases - I was utterly unprepared.

I didn't read the instructions either and he's a lot easier than both Natlan and Chess. Simply because he has a lot less HP and he's always easy to hit.

Also he doesn't have an attack that one shots you (or it's so easy to dodge I haven't noticed it) and his attack that summons pillars also recharges your energy for some reason

What I like about him is that he has no invincibility/untargetable frames and no cutscenes interrupting the fight.

Older boss only feel easier now because of powercreep. If you fight the old boss with units existed at the time of their release, none is as fast as this. Pretty sure whale can just walk in and delete the new boss in an instant.

I defeated him with my friendship farming team, and was surprised at how quickly his HP went down.
I also left the fight unsure of what the penalty would be if I didn't deal with his flip-side minions maintaining those energy fields on the battlefield.
Maybe I'll ignore them next time, and see what happens.
