What makes a puzzle difficult is this!
I tried to keep this spoiler free by being nonspecific and not posting pictures or anything. Still, if you don't want to read about archon quests you haven't done yet, or future puzzle mechanics, feel free to skip this.
Natlan: There's part of the Archon quest where you have to line up 3 rings. The solution is obvious, move the ring until the picture lines up, right? Wrong! Though the solution is obvious and super easy, what someone in the development chain failed to realize is this:
\* If you don't line them up just right after 2 or 3 times total, it pops up this choice saying "View Hint" which becomes the DEFAULT. Which means EVERY SINGLE TIME you want to hit "stop" you have to also press "R3" first or you have to view the hint (you know, the one you ALREADY KNEW because its super-obvious?)
\* This hint is forced on you, obviously the rings slow down and stop at a rate in which you probably won't be familiar with, of course it does, its a puzzle after all. But these types are super easy, WHY IN G\*DS NAME DID THEY PASTE THE HINT AS THE PRIMARY OPTION in the action for the "devices"!?!?!?!?
In this instance, the puzzle difficulty, or rather, annoyance goes from 0 to 10 in an instant. The ONLY thing hard about the puzzle is them throwing the "View Hint" option into the menu as the PRIMARY one. And it GOES BACK to that EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. YOU. STOP. THE. RING.
The puzzle in of itself was beyond easy, my 2-year-old neighbor probably could do it, if he didn't get frustrated by the having deal with the awful awful menu mechanics in this puzzle.
I could understand if there were maybe...say 10 rings.. but no.. just 2. I could even understand if I failed like 5 or 10 times or so, but no, 2 times, seriously?
And the thing is, any player is gonna take at least 2 times or so to find out how long it takes for the ring to slow down and stop. It starts after 2 times, so its like basically telling anyone and everyone this.
I would love it if they added a "No hints please" feature to the game, or all games in general for that matter. Because every time these games have a hint, it ends up being intrusive, not wanted, and usually more often than not, not needed more than it is ever helpful....I mean seriously, there are 2 rings to line up here, not brain surgery!
