New Traveler skin does not show up in cutscenes, it’s still old one
It genuinely upsets me that even after finishing this long AQ and equipping the new skin, it’s still the old one skin in ALL of the cutscenes - new events, new Nod Krai world quests, everywhere.
Here in the video you see that Lumine approaches an event NPC wearing the new skin, but the cutscene shows her in the old one.
New skin is so pretty, please Hoyo, update it to actually correspond with our Traveler. What’s the point of having a skin that doesn’t show up in the cutscenes. Especially when cutscenes are the only time when many players actually see their Travelers.
Hoyo, please, update it!

Doesnt feel like its working as intended everywhere.
Dev B: "holy shit you juyst saved me a lot of time"
What I suspect happened is that the outfit is sort of a spoiler for the latest archon quest and you can do this event before doing that archon quest.
They will use the new outfit in quests that canonically take place after the archon quest. So probably everything in Sneznaya.
But how it can be a spoiler if you can't get it before you saw everything?
Same reason why you could have Jean in your lineup using her casual summer skin but she'll never wear that as an NPC entity. If they don't per-arrange the use of the new skin, it won't be used. But notice that Yelan has been in her new skin lately so clearly they can and likely will swap to updated skins where applicable where appropriate.
Though I get your point as well. It'd be a hassle to constantly switch between outfits for cutscenes, especially with summer skins. You'd have to create a system to differentiate playable outfits and cutscene outfits based on what the player wants for every character with a skin. This could easily be solved by just implementing a "gameplay outfit" and "cutscene outfits" toggle, but I doubt HYV wants to invest any time or resources into something as small as that
they *have* been focusing more on qol ever since fontaine, but I'd still hold my breath
1. A lot of people will not even know about this option
2. A lot of people will complain that it ruined something for them because they didn't realize what button do
3. A lot of people will post screenshots which may negatively affect AD (I won't explain too much how, but OG Traveller's outfit is kinda recognizable, while new one is not)
4. Testing of future quests will require more time and money with new outfits (we won't get one for next 5 years tho), because now you need to make sure that all suits don't clip through textures just like the hand of the traveller and his bottom part of the suit in cutscene on the ship with Columbina (like... They couldn't fix it with one skin, which was made for that scene)
And so on
Only to address, discuss and solve those problems you need probably weeks of work and meetings. And only then some amateur dev could do it in a day. Development is not just coding, remember that.
And, btw, as possible solution for future quest I probably would like to discuss a new parameters for quest cutscenes: list of allowed skins to be used to keep atmosphere fine, and maybe optional parameter is this feature allowed at all for this quest.
Again, it must be discussed, it increases costs, and we need to spend A TON of time and money to back propagate this to old quests to make experience consistent
...
TL DR
Don't code in a day first thing came to your mind. But it's not unbreakable rule either. So as always "It depends..."
The one thing is that they use presets and not dynamic appearance. That's true and it's game design, ok.
The other thing is you call this a spoiler. If I *got* this skin, then it's impossible for this skin to be a spoiler for me, since I already did the quest to get it. See?
Therefore, it's not a spoiler
It's only because how the games is working, and it's a decision they made not only for development consistency, but also for story telling atmosphere, I think
But my point - it has nothing to do with spoilers
It's really inconsistent though like, Varka and Illuga's cutscenes use the old skin whereas there is a cutscene with Nicole that I was using the new one
So if your traveler is dead and the game forces the player traveler to spawn in, in a cutscene it probably plays the dying animation and after a second the character is then despawned. So to circumvent this they use a trial traveler that is always alive, which sadly uses the default outfit.
Should hoyo use that logic they probably don't have to completely rewrite the cutscene logic. They "just" need to add two if/then checks:
If "player:traveler" use outfit a then "trial:traveler" use outfit a.
If "player:traveler" not use outfit a then "trial:traveler" use outfit b.
Actual coders you may correct me.
I was doing random NK world quest and in span of 5 minutes in 3 cutscenes I had Traveler in new outfit and two - in old one. Bits where you just see how Traveler talk to NPC, not parts where you control him.
Although I don't understand why they didn't make the new skin load here. Unless the skin was ready *after* they already finished the event quest. That might be it.
They probably didn't add it to quests and events in this update to not spoil it for people who didn't had the time to do the AQ as soon as it was available.
Try to do this new NK world quest about three seals in Dreadmist Mire - your Traveler will randomly switch outfits between new and old in different scenes. :]
I say that because there're some cutscenes that use my Geo Traveler, while other cutscenes render my traveler as the latest regional element (I noticed Hydro traveler a lot in Fontaine and Natlan, and now Pyro traveler in Nod Krai).
It I look at my traveler and it's not Geo, I assume it's because it's a pre-render
the same company who puts the bosses in the livestream without fail and let you know columbina was missing before you even started the 4.2 archon quest by locking you out of selenic chronicles?
i agree they'll probably just use it in future though because of chronology but i don't think they care that much about spoiling patch content
Secondly, what about killing immersion of our Traveler switching outfits in a blink of an eye? This kills immersion quicker that anything.
Also, it is entirely possible to do all of the Selenic Chronicles after Luna IV, so the chronology of those aren't entirely set in stone either.
Edit to add: actually, what does your point about completing all Selenic Chronicles after Luna IV mean? That traveler will wear old outfit despite already getting a new one? The fact is that it's getting equipped by default right after AQ - you as a player don't even have to go and change it yourself, the game treats is as a canon both in the story (on the Moon), and as a game that we play. But not in the rest of the cutscenes
Luna I -> Selenic Chronicles I -> Luna II - Selenic Chronicles II -> Luna III -> The Empty Courtyard -> Luna IV -> Selenic Chronicles III
you could also see Selenic II happening before Luna II but after Luna I and Selenic I, it doesn't change anything in terms of continuity. The defining factor is, as you said, Luonnotar's presence.
Yeah, let me just quickly go into a random ass wardrobe, remove my clothing, put my old one on, talk to the NPC, and then go back to the wardrobe, put the new clothing on after the cutscene
"immersion" lmfao
Losing that for yet another blue colour scheme that also clashes with his warm-toned hair will be very unfortunate.
So to have the outfit back fit into old cutscenes they would need back date every cutscene and create a seperate instance to involve the new outfit for EVERY CUTSCENE IN THE GAME (bloating game size and absolutly destorying the dev time with bloat.) or they have to integrart a system that have to check your skins and then load off the check, which is also dev time, might lead to loading issues, and other head ache with qa as every cuscene would need to be check for things like excessive clipping on all possible skin possibities, again eating limited dev time.
Given that we are 6 years into this demand and the staus the game is in, i imagine they just settle on the good enough and eat all complaints on the "muh immersion" front because it reallybisnt that big of a deal especially with hoe limited skin options are to begin with.
I hope they find a workaround soon.
The devs want everyone to get the same scene and just can't assume everyone has the skin, especially if it's for the player character (traveler)
I only managed to capture the video for the new event because with WQs you don't always know where the cutscene with Traveler will trigger, and I completed lots of WQs already with exploration team
In the first place what your characters currently wear means nothing, because its predetermined by the game(dev) like if your Jean use default outfit and Klee use witch outfit, in cutscene they will still appear as Jean CN ver and Klee defult outfit, the same thing for traveler.
which, ig, makes sense, depending on how shits coded.
I have the outfit, and i'm wearing the outfit, so show me the outfit. Why the hell did I magically go change in a wardrobe right before talking to 1 person and then switching back? It's a laughable coding problem that they need to fix, there's no lore reason to this
