I’m very satisfied with this scene
Despite Columbina empathizing with Rerir’s plight after the Abyss corruption wore off, and even honoring his wish to bring his message to Tholindis, she doesn’t hesitate to remind Tholindis that he murdered children right in her face, showing that despite being able to feel bad for him to an extent, the gravity of his actions will never be sugarcoated.

I know Rerir wouldn't go because he's a coward and scared, but Tholindis can go see him...
It's actually the same pillar. They're separated by about 500 years(500 pillars apart)
Tholindis is in the past, and can't move beyond the time she arrived. Neither can Rerir, although he seems a bit freer, being able to go anywhere from the time when he first arrived to the time when he was sent back.
Since they entered at different times, they can't go to the time the other occupies.
For those who want to have a slightly more hopeful ending for them. Head cannon that Columbina sends Rerir fragments from the wild hunt she kills into the moon's reflection. And that if perhaps once Rerir gets strong enough, he can perhaps break free of some of the limitations to the space allowing him to finally make it to Tholindis and finally spend their eternity together in that limbo.
Strong in spirit, or penitent for his evil
Then, if I were in charge, I'd let him go to her
But Rerir can see her but he can't move freely like Bina
Not caring about even genocide unless it directly hurts someone you love is not uncommon in people. Many people will do evil things, rationalizing these acts, until it touches their own lives
The scene of flipping pages, and realizing how the judgements become more and more savage until the king just started killing innocent 6 year olds is so heavy, and it hits so hard because it's from his POV, you SEE how he justifies to himself
I think most people in his place would end up doing the same as terrible as it is, of course this doesn't justify what he did or much less what he did after he allied with the Abyss, but still, he's such a compelling character
You can really see how he starts fucking SPIRALING when he finds out about Tholindis, it's crazy
Not to even speak on bossfight Rerir, who's little more than a beast at that point
Lots of IRL people CAN stop, but choose not to. Ironically the fictional mass executioner is less cruel than many real life ones.
He also try to act like victims being betrayed when he also betray Khaenriah people by being passive at the king Tyranny. He have power to stop the king by rebeling like how he just rebel to release his big brother.
The others all had these grand ambitions & are like…otherworldly beings
He’s not like the other sinners in his desire for something grandiose. He’s an orphan forced into a no win scenario, who realizes it was all for nothing after the love of his life yeets herself into the moon gate. I feel like the Abyss fed on the ambitions of the other sinners but the humanity & emotions in Rerir
I ain't no saint, so I won't be throwing the first stone as far as morality is concerned.
I will still throw stones at him for the purposes that he is a proven and chronic threat however, practicality calls for the appropriate response.
I really liked how they handled the story of Rerir in the end
What got me on the floor was her insistance on keeping the part where he relentlessly tried to kill Bina and her friends.
"Sure, let me cut the story down, but I'll be sure to tell your fiancee you tried to stab me numerous times)
I think they did a great job showing that he has remorse for his actions, without actually redeeming him or implying his actions somehow don't matter anymore.
Columbina: tldr
"Abridged?"
"Yeah that works for me"
"...unlike you I have things to do so..."
Maybe he’ll come back in the future and help us in Snezhnaya or help us defeat Dottore.
Who knows, maybe they’ll use like a friendship beam to take down celestia and we can all join forces to finally put an end to them. Then we’ll all be friends and family and live happily ever after. :)
She is pretty ignorant of the actions of her loved ones as long as they have a good relationship with her(sandrone, arle)
How Nicole said with a straight face that the witches protect children I'll never know though, unless she meant just herself
P.S. Nicole could had just said that she herself protects children and would never put them in harms way but she grouped the Hexenzirkel into it, so she's talking about the group as a whole.
I don't know why people talk about Gold the way they do, both her and Alice are ethically bankrupt when it comes to their research
When the death shade found out, she killed all of them and Rhinedottir just act casually like welp you found out oh well and Ronova just say sigh it is your work again and asked istaroth why she give those humans "history".
Rhinedottir just ceeated humans children for lolz experiment and don't feel sad when it got killed by Ronova.
She was 100x more worse than Dottore.
Alice at least refers to some of her many jobs as "cleaning up Rhinedottir's mess", so at least there is fault to be had with her. I expect that Rhinedottir might literally have an extremely flawed view of responsibility though, with abyssal corruption in the past not really having much issue making that aspect of hers worse somehow.
Her main issue honestly is that she is purely on the "Nature" side of the "Nature vs Nurture" debate. She has zero interest in actual motherhood and generally leaves her creations to fend for themselves, with only albedo (one of her very last in a long line of utter failures) being given any instruction. For her, the problems her creations made are not because she's neglectful creator, but that she made them wrong and should aim to make "better" creations.
As she herself said: she is not innocent in all of this.
Rerir is nothing but an attack dog that you point at something to chew. Still the same now with Dottore manipulating him.
