Kind of obvious. Lore ain't that hard, sometimes the lore enjoyers are just reading into things way too much (it is fun to see how much they can spin it though). Paimon is an off-shoot, reduction, derivative, etc. of Asmonday because she's the expy of Kiana, MHY titular character. This is as obvious as hilichurls previously being humans, the moment you play the game and see them. Of course, the ultimate troll by MHY would be Paimon is Paimon, just a celestial fairy, nothing more.

Not kind of obvious during the early patches of Genshin. But as the story progresses, the moon sister theory makes less sense and now, that theory is pretty much dead. I'll admit that I was on the Paimon seelie theory during those early patches.

Can't wait for them to also debunk the theory of paimon = asmoday cause that theory is ass and full of holes lol

Full-Kitchen-65622026-01-17 06:31

Hey it is a obvious one mate they won't do this for sure as it is a lot funny if she is but nah there is 0 chance for her to be maybe she is connected to Celestia but not the shade herself in disguise

LiamMorg2026-01-17 07:38

I'm waiting for the "Tsaritsa is the third Descender's lover" theory to get taken out back, personally.

Perfect_Increase87922026-01-17 07:39

At least that one seems plausible (except she's probably playable)

Particular_Stop_33322026-01-17 08:16

I doubt that that is the answer, but she is the archon of the nation of love, so it wouldn't surprise me to see some story related to her losing her lover at some point whether it's the third descender or not

God same it makes NO SENSE when you get down to actual details. I mean from appearance alone we've blatantly seen from Guoba and Rukkhadevata that a god that loses enough power and shrinks is still recognisable as that god - even humans can recognise them (the humans who found shrunken Rukkha recognised her). Paimon's only physical similarities to Asmoday are white hair and Celestial motif. Different eye colour, different colour palette. Has a crown which seems incredibly important. Hell she looks more like Ronova than Asmoday.

And now that I'm getting into it, there's also the fact that Ronova has blatantly seen the Traveller and by extension Paimon in the scene where she speaks to Capitano. If Paimon was Asmoday she would recognise her, which completely contradicts her and the other Shades claiming she's "missing". They know EXACTLY where Paimon is and it's laughable to think that a human can recognise a shrunken version of a god they're familiar with but a Shade can't

I don't buy it and I personally think anyone overly invested in it needs to take another hard look at canon and existing lore. Sorry for the rant this theory is just so braindead lol

Perfect_Increase87922026-01-17 11:32

I don't mind people theorising but just don't force it into others or act like the theory is confirmed lol

Ok_Air27122026-01-17 11:36

Yeah exactly! It wouldn't bother me half as much if the people who believe it weren't claiming it as fact. Or if it wasn't Everywhere

While I don't think Paimon is Asmoday, it would be possible.

Gods can change their appearance.

A fast change is hard to maintain and won't last long, but if they take their time, they can slowly make a permanent change.

And if Asmoday did that and later became Paimon, she had 500 years to do it.

Ok_Air27122026-01-17 21:00

From what we learned from Nahida in her second(?) story quest, that kind of change has to be done deliberately. Doesn't seem at all likely to me to be something Paimon would have done. And again the crown seems super super significant to me given the descriptions of Phanes. Far more likely that rather than being Asmoday she's somehow connected to them

I also remember at the end of A Space and Time For You there's a moment where Asmoday's power is visible like it's "watching" the Traveller. So unless Paimon has learned mitosis...

Edit: misremembered quest name

Costyn172026-01-17 22:00

As I said, I don't think Asmoday is Paimon, just pointed out that it is possible for Asmoday to change appearance and later become Paimon.

Shahadem2026-01-17 09:11

Were people saying that?

I don't remember anyone who did say that. The one I see all the time is that Paimon is connected to Celestia.

PassionIll32812026-01-17 09:17

Everyone was saying Paimon was one of the moon sisters😭

fat_mothra2026-01-17 10:15

It was mostly because she kinda looks like the Welkin Moon lady, Beta Paimon even had a little staff

Early Nod Krai showing that Columbina (a Moon Goddess) had the same constellation effect when she flies as Paimon gave the theory a little more juice but it has never been a "big" theory

fat_mothra2026-01-17 10:10

>she so obviously wasnt

??? She's misterious as fuck, has very clear connections to the Heavenly Principles/Celestia because of her clothes, she looked very similar to the Welkin Moon lady, and she has the same constellation effect as Columbina (a Moon Sister/Trilune God) when they fly

It's fine if you never thought she was connected to the Moon Sisters, but saying she "obviously wasn't" it's stupid, it was a valid theory

Zerakin2026-01-17 14:30

People get very emotionally attached to their personal ideas being true that they start fighting ghosts. If it turned out Paimon was a moon sister, OP would double down on it being a fakeout at best, or talking about how dumb it is and how their head canon would be better at worst.

Aegillade2026-01-17 21:22

Yeah I never thought she was a Moon Sister but I feel like we've theorized her to be just about everything. Is she a Shade? Is she Asmoday? Is she a the Tsaritsa? Is she a Seelie? Moon Sister isn't any more farfetched than any of those.

OP is fighting ghosts
