I don't want to play this game anymore 😭
so I was just unlocking a waypoint when I saw a quest icon over a computer looking thing.
One hour later, I am discovering the literal horrors of the lore of this place. "bloodied notes", people dead; the place crawling with rifthounds.
I could hear this door opening and shutting from the elevator, and when I got here, these robots were wandering aimlessly through the room in a panicked manner.
I went through the door and got JUMP SCARED.
On one hand, the ambiance and music and visuals are AMAZING! I haven't been this sucked into a genshin quest EVER. Literally on the edge of my seat.
On the other hand, I think I need a new pair of pants...
WHEN DID GENSHIN BECOME A HORROR GAME???

Yeah this is definitely a nod to Fallout
But the first horror game they thought of was RE so they mentioned that. No need to beat them up for a simple joke
Which is 100% Fallout inspired, there isn’t a single callback or homage or mechanic inspired by any RE game and anyone who actually played this area would know
That legit made me wonder if im still playing genshin
Traveller murked one of Arlecchino's children (though it could have been Crunchybeans)
The game comes off as bouncy and fun but it’s so dark.
But also there are elements of Dead Space and other horror games thrown in.
It also reminds me of Wildstar's infested Eldan labs but that one I think is coincidence, especially considering the Chinese release of WS never happened, lol.
But, yeah, I am also sure, that the whole setting, the retrofuturism are references for other games.
It is not the first that Genshin does this and I love it 👀
"HEY, NEATO! ....well, they can't all be $@%#ing gems."
I will forever despise NCSoft for abandoning the IP and leaving it to rot
on one hand its better for just getting your rewards, but i miss long world quests chains that had actual story and lots of lore
and the lack of actual NPCs that goes alongside you makes the issue more apparent because all of the lore needs to be pieced together by yourself, and there is a good chance that you end up missing some because u accidently skipped one note somewhere in the questline. For example the Echoes of a Forsaken Song quest is incredible in terms of actual lore but like to actually figure out wtf is happening you needed like so much prior knowledge that most people gets completely lost (i was helping out randoms with the new area and i did this quest 5 times with strangers and none of them knew wtf is going on lol)
So you can play it in your teapot as well lol
(Also, I missed the quest way point leading outside and teleported away leaving the quest unfinished 😅)
In my Genshin?
It's more common than you think
No jumpscare tho, at least I don't think so
Sadly it's still genshin so it's not really scary to me. Especially with just some rifthounds as enemy. But vibes were immaculate.
Hope they do more of this style.
Like it was trying to copy the idea of a Fallout vault but Genshin is kinda too handholdy and linear to actually feel like there's any tension imo. The whole thing of "the camera dragged me into a jump scare!" just means that the game can't naturally scare the player, and the "monster behind a door" didn't even show anything.
If the scariest thing the game can come up with are riff hounds and the big eyeballs that already exist in the overworld, then what is the scary part?
>!can we talk about the fact that the boss mentioned sampo!<
