Act 8 boss: The lack of a fail state and My personal gripe with Genshins AQ
Is there a way to lose that fight? This AQ was the most suspenseful quest I ever experienced in genshin and I was on the edge of my seat until my Nefers health went to 0 and it just shot right back up with a message like "you cant fall here" or something. That took the suspense out of the fight knowing Im scripted to not lose no matter what.
Similarly, I remember early HSR against the Phantylia boss fight you can just straight up lose. Knowing that I was really able to immerse myself better in the story. Im pretty sure early genshin quests the bosses could actually kill you too. Making you have to restart upon failure.
I wonder why we're moving to a more streamlined experience. I enjoy stuff like traveler having more voice lines instead of us just pressing on his dialog during conversations. And I dont mind being forced to use certain characters involved in the story for immersion purposes. Just not being able to die in a boss fight rubs me the wrong way as a gamer.
Obviously this is low on the totem pole of genshin critique but I was just curious if anyone else might have felt the same way. Do you think the game would be better if it were possible to lose and have to restart in the middle of a story boss fight?

a.) many Gachas (including GI lately) force you to use certain units and I honestly don't fully understand how to play Flins or Nefer (I have neither). Dying over and over, only because I don't understand how to use these characters, would greatly annoy me. And
b.) when I play through the story, then I want to experience the story and get the Boss Fight over as quickly as possible to go back to the story. I can fight the Boss again on the highest difficulty later!
Not a fan of quicktime events but at least there was fun bs Dottore was doing, like reversing controls to keep me interested.
As for me, maybe I’m just used to how easy genshin’s story mode is, so I don’t think too much about it. But I also wouldn’t complain if they made it harder.
Edit: Additionally, one thing that makes video games different from other media is you can experience what the mc feels firsthand. If a fight is meant to be intense but ends up being easy, it completely ruins the immersion
Day 1 Genshin: Childe too hard, plz nerf
Day 1937: Dottore too easy, plz let us die

I mean sure, might as well also repeat the 2 hour long quest from right before with no stop whatsoever just to get there like Raiden after losing against her
After you have to do it twice, you are gonna most likely hate the idea for the rest of your life

Long are gone the times where figuring out a game on your own was a thing, nowadays everything is streamlined, handholded, and simple to keep tiktok brains attention span as long as possible with flashy effects
As for why they did this, every boss had people complaining about being too hard. If you go back Luna 1 livestream (at 58:32), you'll see that people complained even about the open world coop bosses and domains. Not everyone playing this game are professional gamers, not everyone playing are doing so in a console/PC. There's a lot of young kids playing, people playing on mobile, people that Genshin is one of their first games, older people that don't have good reflexes anymore or are like me, uninterested in challenges that just want to sit back and relax.
Genshin is a game for the general public, so it'll try to be something playable for the lowest common denominator at the expense of being a great game for the gamer.
But I've seen the Avg Genshin players build.
Getting Hard stuck in a story quest where you can't Co-op your way out of it is not the way they wanna do this.
