Tips for a new player?
Hey all, I'm thinking about downloading this game. I've heard lots about it over the years, and especially recently on Twitter, I've been seeing a lot of talk about the new Columbina character. I'm a bit bored with the other games I normally play (just beat Canto 9 in Limbus Company) so I wanted to try something new. Can I get some simple tips? I'm familiar with gachas (as I just said I play Limbus Company, although I know comparing it to other gachas is a stretch) but I'd just like some simple advice to get me started. I'm sure theres a lot of content in this game, so I don't want to be overwhelmed super fast at the start. Thanks in advance!

Early game, the resin (stamina) is better spent in leylines that give mora (yellow leylines) or exp books (blue leylines). Only start farming artifacts when you're Adventure Rank 45. Also don't be afraid of leveling characters, you can use almost all of them even today. There are some bad ones (like Amber), but still won't hurt you, upgrading them is quite easy.
Grab whatever you see as you walk through the world, kill any enemy in front of you and get their loot, this will help reduce the time you'll have to farm materials to ascend characters or weapons. Genshin is a game that wants you to explore the world, so do that, go to places and grab chests, kill enemies, etc.
Early game, more characters the better, and Genshin isn't a hard game that requires hyper investment in a single character if you're not planning on playing engame modes. A single copy of a character and a 4star weapon are enough for 95% of the game content. Columbina is a nice character to have, she enables new reactions to old electro, geo and dendro characters. She's better with newer characters, but it doesn't hurt to have her in your account if you wish to pull.
I don't know what to say anymore, so follow the main story and go to the regions it tells you to go. There's a timeline in the quests menu that shows you when each main quest and character quests happens chronologically too if you ever have doubt about something.
* Pick a generic playstyle
* Casual - Wander, explore, and take quests at random; don't worry about details or the gacha
* Pai-poke-mon - Collect every character you can by hard-farming primos and spending them on pulls!
* Achievement Hunt - Go for some of the more fun achievements, just for giggles
* Lore deep-dive - Get knee-deep in reading and discovery!
* Meta Build - Learn the current meta, attempt to build it, and aim squarely for end-game fights
* Make friends, and give co-op a fair shake
* Find the aspects of Genshin you like most, and consider making alts or rerolls to explore other playstyles
In the end, Genshin is a game that is far too multi-faceted to ever "catch it all" on your first playthrough, so focus on doing what you enjoy most, and don't let any aspect of the game pin you down too much. :) Have fun!
Genshin is big, but it's not complex. It just has the same basic systems duplicated for each region.
