Hi, I was doing the MSQ today and I got to the moment the moon sisters talk about the 1st descender.
And I am playing in french and they talk about the 1st descender as a woman.

Is it me or we never knew that the 1st descender was a woman?
I remember people only mentioning Phanes as a man

Also are they using he/him pronouns if you are playing Lumine?

In English they never state a particular gender. It’s just players who refer to Phanes as male because they see the possibility that Phanes could be a Kevin Kaslana variant.

There are languages that need you to specify the gender when you refer to something. Hovever as of now the 1st descender aka Heavenly Principles do not have confirmed gender. Buuuuuuut, all 4 of the HP shades are woman, so its quite save to assume HP will be big booba waifu that will eventually be playable to get those big bucks to Hoyo.

I never understood the logic of Phanes creating 4 Shades of themselves, and all 4 end up as ladies, but "Phanes is Kevin/Phainon". I'm a guy and my shadow is also the one of a guy, so I would assume the same for Phanes if their shadows are all waifu.

The Heavenly Principles is androgynous and referred to as a 'god of unknowable gender' in hymns of the far north. They do not have a canon gender, and any use of gendered terms in translation is in error

You can't say it's an translation error if the language(s) in question doesn't have a gender-neutral pronoun.

I don't know french so maybe it's that there isn't really non gender pronouns there? Cause pretty much everything we have about HP is that they're very much meant to be genderless, in english version they're referred by they/them, their only physical description so far is being androgynous looking and one of their titles is "Father of All and Mother of Gods"

French is a very gendered language, it’s masculine or feminine, there are no altenatives. Traditionally, the masculine form is the default. When talking about a group, if just one member is masculine, you are supposed to use a masculine pronoun. Things have changed in more recent times, but the rules set by the Académie Française haven’t. So it’s peculiar to see this used here.

I myself play as Aether, but I know from someone who plays as Lumine that the first descender was also referred to as female in their case

I even have a Kazazh friend, who plays with the russian translation, and that version also had female pronouns for the first descender

If that is indeed the case, we definitely didn't know before, and if not, that's a pretty damn serious translation issue lol
