No Gatha?
Hello, I’m doing a no gacha run ( no real reason why I just find it fun ) I am just about to fight the dragon and started doing some thinking about my team and remembered that atm the game has some free characters, I’m not very knowledgeable in this game as my main account is just a heizou simp account and was wondering what character would be the best to pick in the long run?
Any suggestions / ideas would be appreciated and thank you for reading.

So you're relying exclusively on free characters given to you as part of the game's natural progression? That means Traveler, Amber, Lisa, Kaeya, Barbara, Xianling, Collei, Lynette, and Kachina if I recall correctly.
You're wondering what team you can make from that selection? Well, since you're still in Mondstadt you're a bit hard-limited to the first four or five in that list until you can complete the Spiral Abyss enough to unlock Xianling and Collei. Once you have them, you can more or less pull your way through the game with any combination of four. I feel as though Amber/Lisa is your best option since Overload is powerful, but Barbara+Kaeya freeze plus Lisa Overcharge or Xianling Met is decent. Collei would be better served to helping another Dendro, but in the absence of options, you can still use her to trigger bloom and then more advanced Dendro reactions. As you progress, you could use Traveler in their stronger elements such as Anemo, Dendro, Hydro, or Pyro.
Disclaimer: I'm not a meta player, so these are opinions, not facts. But if I were in your shoes, that's what I'd try. Feel free to disregard; I'm sure you'll get some comments from more experienced team builders with other ideas. :)
My personal team choice would probably be Barbara, Anemo Traveler, Lisa, and Kaeya. A bit of crowd control, decent off-fields, decent healing. Build Traveler as your pseudo-dps, rely on the others for elemental reactions and swirl when you can with short skill cooldowns and cheap bursts.
I eventually got bored with the concept, because it wasn’t particularly challenging, and using the same handful of characters forever just didn’t appeal to me.
