WARNING* You can be locked into story quests for 40-50 minutes.
I just did this part. I did what others said and waited until I gained control of a character (Columbina) Exited out of the story. I was forced to redo 25 minutes. You have to go 40 minutes before the game saves a checkpoint. BUT if you want to do your dailies or coop with friends, you will be locked out of that for 50 minutes because that checkpoint forces you back into a story scene even if you close the game down. I feel for players that have friends to coop with and you get to this part because they're gonna be waiting 50 minutes.
Hoyo really needs to be aware of this. The only people that aren't having problems or tell people "they don't know how to read" for not seeing the save icon are players that rush through the story within a day or 2. Not everyone can do that or wants to.

Just because we get a message doesn't make it ok. What if they started making the quest 10 hours long with no break. Is it ok because they warn you that you need to set aside 10 hours all at once? I wouldn't think so.
No it's fucking not.
> You're having a family gathering. A friend texts you and says he's coming over. You don't want him to because you're spending time with family. They show up anyways. Is that ok just because they let you know they were coming over?
If they still come anyway after you say no to them then it's not okay. But if you say "sure" to them despite knowing you have other business, then it's your fault. The quest literally tell you "hey this quest is going to take a long time, are you sure you want to start now?" And you say yes, they give you special screen that warn you and ask for your consent, and you agree. If you don't have time then why did you agree???

Now you are just making scenario in your head to be angry, there is break in the story, a lot of them.
Funny how you say I'm angry when you started your reply with "No it's fucking not." Like a child on a tantrum. 🤣
Because comparing game story to actual crime is not fucking funny, you don't know what it feel to have someone close to you getting robbed and get hurt. I hate people that try to make light thing like this. Feel free to call it tantrum, but for me it's just very distasteful, I wish you never have to know how it feel.
Ideally, your "what if" scenarios shouldn't be an issue. Since people are warned in advance, they're supposed to allocate time for it in the same you would for something like a movie theater visit.
I get that there's the FOMO rush in the bonus 560 gems and Columbina mats, but they give you around a month and a half's time to make it work.
That's what the warning is for, it's telling you "Plan your time properly, you won't be able to coop/do dailies for a long time once you start the quest". An actual time amount would be nice to add to the warning, but people are different. Some people finish in 7 hours, and then there's Arnold who spends double that time doing the quest.
>What about mobile players? They're playing on the go and they gotta play for 40-50 minutes straight or risk doing huge chunks again?
Again, a big red warning that says "DON'T START THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE TIME TO COMPLETE IT."
>Having a warning is not a better option than giving us a checkpoint every 5-10 minutes.
I mean you're right about this, there's no reason there shouldn't be more checkpoints, since sometimes things do happen, like losing internet or running out of battery.
>Keep the story length the same but give more chances to do something else.
But the whole point is for you to be immersed in the story. The story isn't immersive if you're >!trapped in a prison unable to escape!<, but you can just press Esc and go back to doing your dailies like nothing happened. It's not immersive if you can just be halfway through some villain monologue, and go "oops, you reminded me I forgot to claim my dailies, brb". Just plan your day/week better, do the AQ when you've got time and in the mood to lock in and enjoy the quest. Maybe not 7 hours in one sitting, but if you can't deal with a one-hour segment, you haven't planned properly. If you've got an appointment at 5, and it's 4:30 and you reach a save point, you should take that chance to stop at a logical pause point instead of pushing on. And if you genuinely don't give a fk about the story or immersion, well then why are you even playing it?
I honestly think it would've been cool if Columbina banner was released on the second half, because it maintains immersion to be able to do the AQ without her. Instead of just logging in after the patch, pulling for her immediately, and then losing most of the tension in the AQ to be like 'We have to go rescue her', because she's already in your party and you get to see her kit. But, gacha game gonna gacha.
I mean what if in the future they want you to be immersed in the story by making it a 10 hour long story scene with no breaks to go do dailies. By your logic, you shouldn't care, right?
If the scene allows for that, sure. As I said, I have nothing against more checkpoints. But some scenes just don't make sense to be split. I've already seen people complaining that jumping between three or four different POVs in this quest was hard for them to keep up with. Imagine if we got Dottore's monologue over 10 different scenes instead of just 3, would you be able to keep up with that? I don't want the game's storytelling to be held back by the lowest common denominator for attention span.
>Not everyone wants to sit through long cutscenes with no breaks..
Sure, I get that. And the devs get that too. Acts 7 and 8 are already a marked improvement over Act 4, where there was legitimately a few very long domain sections with no room for pauses, with no warning either, leading to many people getting frustrated. I genuinely doubt there's actually a single section of this new Archon Quest that's over 30 minutes on autoplay without either a loading screen or a walking section, both of which serve as save points. (*Edit: INCLUDING your example of the Columbina+Moon Sisters to Varka+Nicole section, yes there was 40 minutes between walking sections where you could quit back to the real world. But there was a loading screen about 25mins into that section, so still under 30m*) So it's just a matter of people complaining "There was no place to stop!" because they didn't understand that those WERE save points. The devs even added the little 'Saving...' icon on several of the loading screens to try and inform the players.
>It's not we didn't plan good enough. It's we want to to a little bit at a time since we have around 40 days to complete it
You have infinite time to do the quest, don't buy into the FOMO of needing to finish the quest right away. 500 extra primogems is just over a week of dailies, is that really all it takes to force you to do something you don't want to?
Even if that does matter to you, that's over a month. Unless you're a FIFO worker who has no internet while they're offshore, I can't possibly imagine you couldn't find time somewhere in that 6 weeks to do the quest, IF the extra 500 primos matters that much to you. That's only finding one full hour per week of time to do it. Or one free weekend out of six.
>I mean what if in the future they want you to be immersed in the story by making it a 10 hour long story scene with no breaks to go do dailies. By your logic, you shouldn't care, right?
Well, 1) you're being hyperbolic, that's clearly not something they would force you do to by any reasonable stretch of the imagination. There will always be checkpoints to avoid losing too much time, and likely also places to pause and return to normal gameplay, as there were in this quest.
And 2) If it was a quest that locked me out of dailies for 10 hours, then that would be manageable. Because I would simply wait for a weekend, do my dailies before starting, maybe take a break overnight if I wasn't 100% engrossed and getting tired, and then finish it the next day and do my dailies for that day after the quest. Because I plan my time appropriately. And if the story was interesting, I would busy enjoying the story, not be sitting through it fuming that I can't go do my dailies or I'm wasting resin while overcapped.
Anyways, you've clearly moved the goalpost from your original complaint about having to do 40-50 minutes at a time. If you want a short break, just turn auto mode off so the dialogue pauses and go to the bathroom or get food. If you need a long break, just wait for a checkpoint and then quit. I truly can't see how the game would 'hold you hostage' for so long that you get upset, unless you just don't like the story.
I don't even understand the last part of your post. How am I rushing it when I want to be able to stop, take breaks and do the story in little bits which means I would finish the story slower.
1 hour scene broken up into 6 scenes would be the same amount of time as as an hour long scene. It wouldn't affect anyone that wants to rush the story but help those that like to play in smaller bits.
I think we are a biased group here on a Genshin forum and we take for granted how “casual” some of the casuals are. Yes I can set aside a day or two out of 40 days to finish the AQ … but I also clear abyss stygian and theatre that many casuals dont. You can argue those casuals arent serious enough or whatever but in the end the game is aimed at casuals being able to pick it up and play.
edit: wow was your reply so rude it got deleted, or did you come to your senses? tsk tsk, I forgot I’m supposed to spend 24hrs a day side by side with my child even when they sleep for 11hrs at night…… you’re not too bright, are you?
Not everyone enjoys doing 40-50 minutes of story at once. Some might want to take breaks more often. How is having 1 hour of story broken up into six 10 minute parts affect you? Seems like it would only affect players that want to auto it and don't care about the story and just want the rewards. It would be the exact same amount of story.
6.3 is much more better than 6.2 where they have like some gameplay aspect that we will redo again if we leave like that Rerir chess at Khaenriah and Nefer desert quest.
6.3 is just basically watching movie and have few gameplay that just walking and fighting at the end of archon quest.
Tip: if you see the paimon menu indicated as an exit button and the quest says something like "go to this place" "meet with this person" "go meet up with the others" while you are in open world assets(like in front of cuditorium of secrets) you can actually exit the AQ. But if you are in a closed/special domain it's better to not take risk.
*You can skip this part* Since I play on mobile I kind of like these pseudo "domain" like environment for world quest as it helps with smoother gameplay at high graphics.
Too bad there’s not enough people raising hell about this shit. I realise the design is intentional but stuff like this will turn people off from the game completely.
Great questline though crazy lore.
Still waiting to get a reasonable explanation why the lock in is necessary. Even the characters/stories get breaks, but the player doesn't?
Even those who have planned enough time might want a break (I am those). The end of first part was a perfect moment to give a break. Let me digest and simmer in it a bit, why so pressed to continue?
It drains a lot of the enjoyment and most players still "forced" breaks, some successfully some not so succssefully so again, what's the reason from a storytelling point of view to lock players?
>!I only wanted to do Act 7 yesterday, but I had to go into act 8 until the meeting with Scaramouch before being able to quit it. !<
That just sucks as me needs to be addressed.
I got off of work at 8pm, went to the store for a moment, came back and relaxed for half an hour, got on genshin to get *some* story quest out of the way, only to be locked into it for eons to come. Actually ridiculous. I likely will have to redo the part I logged off on also, which I do not look forward to.
When I saw the notification that stated the quest would take a bit of my time, I assumed this would mean only one part of the quest, so I gave it a go, and I was sorely mistaken. Just as I believe I'm free, it launches me straight into the next part. What the hell actually?
Whatever I guess I got to see Illuga at least😭
I can't really understand why they couldn't have divided into parts, I feel like being taken hostage by the game :-P
