[Nod-Krai AQ Act 8] This game is a masterpiece.
Luna IV’s Act 7 and Act 8 are yet another shining example added to the long list of examples of how Hoyoverse truly puts Genshin’s story front and centre and how much love, care, and attention they put into writing a beautifully written, cohesive, and visually-stunning story.
We’ve come so far from the classic medieval, knights, swords, and dragons aesthetic of Mondstadt back when we first started playing the game. I don’t know what kind of expectations I had for this game back during 1.0, but I was certainly not ever going to expect that at some point, I would be sitting on the literal moon, with a moon goddess, staring back down at Teyvat, in space, with the Traveler’s ship.
Say what you will about other aspects of the game, but I think I speak for most people when I say that Genshin’s story has always been the major spotlight of the game that has constantly displayed an incredibly expansive world of cohesive lore and world-building.
They truly fucking cooked with this one, chief. I am incredibly excited and invested to learn and experience the rest of Nod-Krai, the Mare Jivari, Snezhnaya, Khaenri’ah, Celestia, and everything else this game has to offer. I’m in love with this game and I’m confident in saying I’ll never stop loving it.

Could you elaborate on why there has never been a medieval theme? Mondstadt has that high fantasy vibe with a walled city, grand cathedrals (although I read that these things were more common in the Renaissance) and terms like knights.
Liyue seemed to distance itself from that since it was based on Ancient China and its style could be based on any era besides the medieval.
Moreover, while not the final product, the game's original opening had the traveller's spaceship

More generally, I really hope we get to take some friends out for a ride in the spaceship. I would very much love to give Amber the most amazing flight of her life, along with some of the other more "grounded/normal" characters.
I just can't get over how cool it is that this is a real possibility now, after *the Traveler went to the moon and found their spaceship.*
Act 7 and 8 being a 6 hours long visual novel and the zones being so small really highlights that Hoyo dedicated less resources to Nod Krai, making it feel more like a filler arc & Snezhnaya waiting room.
Nod Krai is a success, I’m not complaining too much. I just feel we’re lacking the grandiose of other regions.
I have to dissagree heavily with this. I wish we had more maps or bigger maps when it comes to exploration.
However, nobody actually tought about the possibility that.. this is how the map just is? Not every region will be the same dimension as the other ones, and we learned that Nod Krai is part of Snezhnaya. This is why is even more compressed when it comes to puzzles, while in other regions you were getting a chest for a puzzle, sometimes even in the new map you will get 2. And keep in mind we should get 1 more or even 2 nod krai expansions (2 more sets of Nod Krai local legends needs to be released), Dornman Port, probably a summer event map, and some mare jivari expansion (based on the livestream when they said they will expand it more in future updates).
And about Archon quest being a visual novel. Respectfully, 1 act of Nod Krai AQ mogs every other archon quests and its not even debatable unless you live in nostalgia.
The ammount lore, explanations, cast, cutscenes, even seeing in game cutscenes fights wich are good, better pacing (with some exceptions) and the lenght its just whole another lvl.
If this region is "filler" I hope everything that comes next is filler.
Maybe the maps are not just as big as Sumeru. No region is as big as sumeru (so far). Thats just how it is.
And Im not sure we are looking at the same statistic but I dont see any drop in revenue, let alone "massive". You will for sure not see inazuma lvl of revenue but the game is pretty steady.
Unless Hoyo fix their story dialogue, pacing and presentation they will never produce any masterpiece, ever
Looks like children aren't happy I am telling them the truth that their gachaslop isn't peak fiction. I like Genshin alot but I won't go so far to call it a masterpiece
If you dumb down most of the AQ as ‘boring yap’ and falling asleep while playing, you weren’t ever planning to put yourself in an open mindset to want to enjoy something.
Contrast with say E33, an *actual* masterpiece, with natural flowing, snappy dialogue that feels like real humans interacting with each other
Genshin has a problem with the writing, dialogue is so much fluff.
Natlan is kind of a stumble in the AQ but it more than makes up for it with Golden Entreaty.
The biggest advantage of future Archon quests, in that sense, is that they expanded to 5 acts, and now 8 in the latest one, and this extra time does help give the story a bit more room to develop characters and breathe. I think this is mostly what people mean by "wasted potential" -- it's like a novel that got cut down to a very short TV show and so rushed through the plot skipping a lot of details, but the core ideas were solid so people wish for a better adaptation.
It felt super natural, *especially* if you follow the age-old RPG rule of *"all side quests before the main quest"*, doing those as they pop up across the journey (Hanachirusato, the Mikage Furnace, the Orobashi one, etc) before moving on to the next island.
If you continue taking this approach through the other regions, I'll be interested in hearing what you think. (Doing the side-quest first approach in Sumeru could actually result in a rather different perspective on plot and pacing.)
So there's a lot of broad stuff I know ahead but also tons that's surprised/etc me.

I've been doing the same in Sumeru, yep! After meeting Collei and doing the initial stuff in her village, I ran into Rana on the way to the city and did the ***entire*** Aranara questline before progressing the AQ. Given it was pretty clearly designed to have you explore all the regions of the forest as you progress, it made extra sense to me to do it early.
In hindsight, you're definitely supposed to do the Aranara one *after* Act I (and before Act II, the festival), but I sort of mentally fixed that pacing in my head, if that makes sense haha.
More generally though, doing the Aranara story before you get too far into the AQ (including the festival) to me feels like a great way to get a feel for Sumeru before diving into the meat of the story, as it were.
Or put the other way, speeding through Act I & II of the AQ then zooming off to the desert, leaving Aranara and all the other stuff for later, I definitely feel that would significantly harm the experience, yeah.

I'm assuming Jeht's story is going to go somewhat similarly for the desert, but I'll figure those stories out as I get to them. :)
Anyway, definitely sounds like a unique experience and a good way to play the game. You'll definitely have a lot of content to experience!
Bit yeah inauzma would have benefited from 5 acts instead of very crammed 3 acts
For me, fontaine AQ is very good as a furina, neuv and navia story, but it barely fleshes out the nation unlike suemru and natlan and even inazuma. It sacrificed traveller's agency and It's cast also does barely anything on their own, like clorinde and lynette.
Speaking of the Narwhal, Fontaine has severe power-scaling whiplash. Neuvillette soloed everything while the Traveler’s strength fluctuated depending on what the scene needed, making their failures feel artificial rather than earned. The prime example is they were literally bodied by Arlecchino for no real reason, they didn't use any elements and only fought with a dull blade. That loss felt so fake for the sake of just selling her character. They intended to show how strong she was in comparison to the Traveler but it fell flat because it looked like they didn't try at all.
On top of this, you have the really slow moments like Meropide in Act 3 and 4. The prophecy was another issue as a whole as well. You have a world-ending event that is framed as catastrophic, but its consequences are short-lived. When a nation-threatening disaster leaves little lasting impact, it undercuts the stakes the story tries to establish. It also doesn't help that the concept of a nation flooding when it's already so elevated compared to the rest of the continent makes absolutely no sense.
I also felt like the character interactions were far weaker than the previous ones in Sumeru. The Traveler had complete animosity towards the Fatui at this point (and justifiably so) but were so quick to trust Lyney and Lynette after a short while. I only really liked Navia and Furina as characters whereas in Sumeru everyone felt more tight-knit as a group in their shared goal of rescuing Nahida.
I do agree with Furina's story being really good, in fact that was
pretty much the only enjoyable part for me. You can have excellent interactions between characters that are not the MC while also not neglecting them at the same time, there doesn't have to be a trade-off. Nod-Krai, and I'd argue Natlan are perfect examples of this being done right.
Yup. Maybe I missed something, but didn't Skirk later say something like "The Narwhal eats entire planets and it's just the pet that belongs to a guy copying my master"? That's DBZ fanfic levels of power-scaling. Seriously, did I miss something?
ultimately these are devs who are doing new things and experimenting; sometimes it hits right, sometimes it doesn't
but they are clearly making improvements each time and I admire their tenacity & passion for it
idk but genshin feels like home lol
As he said so to Nahida, “You’re just temporarily ahead.” Are we now seeing him finally caught up with us? He may be an incredibly narcissistic asshole, but he’s also an incredibly *intelligent* narcissistic asshole - he’s definitely made some contingencies just in case becoming a demigod with the moon marrows wasn’t enough.
I'm looking forward to the reveal that the female archon will be or was tormented/tortured in isolation for 500 years. Why break tradition, y'know?
Don't why the difference is, but they were very good in letting us feel the danger of the threat in Fontaine compared to the Abyss in Natlan and Rerir/Dottore in Nod Krai.
Sumeru beats Nod Krai for me. Fontaine and Nod Krai are close but I’ll give the edge to Fontaine. Comparing Fontaine and Nod Krai, the beats were better in Fontaine but the peaks of the storytelling were better in Nod Krai.
I started two years ago, shortly before Simulanka (end of Fontaine) and only did Mondstadt and thought this is some middle ages RPG with exploration and maybe some meh story (and to be fair Mondstadt was ok-ish and exactly what I expected).
Then people talked about some false sky and once I saw the Nahida trailer I was totally "*WTF??????" This is no ordinary game that I expected??!*". I think the story is the best I ever played in a video game - I have cried multiple times during quests and actually want to know how the story evolves - unlike *every* other game I played in the past >30 years where I did not care about the story in the slightest.
I'm sure there's critique to be found, but I just can't be bothered with it, I f\*\*king love Nod-Krai's MS for what it is and how it's being presented.
Nod-Krai's story is 10/10 (Absolute Peak of Peak) and I am right there with you, op! All the way! I can't wait to see what happens next.
Now i hope they will bring Nicole as soon as possible, i want her Friendship 10 and read all the lore this yapper has to tell us.
