Fake sky

I don't think that fake sky/firmament is at a particular height

Dottore here opened it at way below even clouds level as you can see from video

It's like a thin invisible memberane not something at a particular height

Imagine trying to glide and accidentally hitting the ceiling because Dottore decided to open a rift at cloud level.

"I went for a glide and ended up in outer space"

I think the fake sky is another dimension layered on top of reality. You could go on endlessly and never reach a physical border.

Layering realities isn't new for Genshin. This would simply be on a grand scale.

The rifts and holes we have observed so far simply lead to reality no matter how far they are from Teyvat.

Yeah fully agreed. You definitely worded it better, I wanted to say the same but for some reason words weren't coming in my mind (╥﹏╥)

I think that the fake sky was created by Asmoday, the shade of space. That's my hypothesis

This make the most sense since the Moon is now inside the fake sky and we can see the whole planet from there.

I do wonder what the Heavenly Principles are trying to conceal Teyvat from, since Nicole makes a remark at near the end towards the Traveler that "Teyvat was exposed to outer space" for a short amount of time.

On the very off-chance the writers still want some connection to Honkai Impact 3rd to exist, there's a non-zero chance whatever the HP wanted to not notice Teyvat was Honkai-Energy, since Hi3rd states that Honkai-Energy specifically targets advanced civilizations (it also works \*very\* similarly to how Abyss Energy actually works in Teyvat).

For the longest time, I've think of the fake sky as a dome that starts at the dark sea. You can actually go past the dark sea or the "dome" but it's filled with abyssal monsters.

Like a guy said in comment, I think it's more of a whole other dimension, like you can go above clouds given there are a lot of places above clouds but still won't cross the fake sky because sky being fake is just layman way of putting it. In video Dottore opened it pretty low level height. Basically it's a whole fake dimension

Tbh given the moon is already in fake sky now, and we were basically seeing whole teyvat while inside the firmament I don't think it's a screen given the moon is definitely above clouds

Ryuunoru2026-01-19 07:45

Well that's disproven in this cutscene, as perspective proves the gap to be physically within the false atmosphere. We've also reached far higher points in Natlan. If it was a screen, we would have collided with it. Additionally, we can see Teyvat from the moon inside the firnament. A much larger distance.

Roxxso2026-01-18 19:11

So I was curious, when Columbina and the Traveler are on her moon (the real Frost Moon), why aren't their visible fragments of the other two moons orbiting Teyvat? You see them during that one Natlan scene when Mavuica blows a hole in the sky. Is the false sky more than just the sky above the world? Or does it extend beyond the planet, further out into space. During that one cutscene, we see everyone literally pull the moon inside the false sky (kinda funny that there wasn't reports of world wide earthquakes or massive tidal surges, but whatever). Is Teyvat closed off from the rest of the universe? Most likely because of Asmoday?

Mind-Available2026-01-18 19:14

Feels like this is a whole artificial dimension. The other two moons and the one Mavuika shattered are in real one, unlike the moon we pulled in fake dimension.

Ryuunoru2026-01-19 07:48

The false sky is a 3D construct, not a 2D barrier. The moon was pulled inside this construct, and thus whatever we see from this moon is the same as we can see from Teyvat itself.
