Crazy to see one of Columbina's best weapons is an F2P option from 1.0
I mean, it’s kind of insane to think about. Columbina needs HP and Energy, and Prototype Amber gives her exactly that. On top of that, it even provides extra healing for the whole party, which can be pretty useful.
I’ve been so used to gacha games where the signature weapon is really needed. And Columbina is an ‘Archon‑type’ character, the kind you know a lot of people will pull for. If Hoyo wanted to, they could easily make her signature weapon 30-40% better than the next F2P alternative to push people into spending extra money, but they didn't.
Of course, her current signature weapon is still her BIS, but the fact that Columbina doesn’t really need it, and can perform well with a F2P weapon from version 1.0, is honestly amazing.
I can see that I can still clear Dire difficulty just fine with this weapon. It’s refreshing that even with Genshin already in its 6th year, the weapon banner still feels like a luxury, and I can focus my pulls on getting characters I really want, like Varka, Nicole, Alice, and so on :).

And people still can't spell his name correctly, 5 years later.
XQ was nerfed in 1.2 to apply less hydro. They said they "fixed an issue" with his rain swords applying too much hydro. The game's one (edit: of the only two) 6star character(s) used to be STRONGER.
Also Neuvillette
Guess I'll have to craft a 3rd r5 one now, haha
Right, HSR?
I don’t play zzz so it might be just as bad idk
I'd say biggest struggle is wengines, basically weapons. The standard wengines are pretty good but tough to come by and overall I don't think there are very good f2p alternatives for a lot of agents.
But yeah I might start pulling more engines in zzz because, also worth noting, they are a LOT more generous than genshin so it's OK
There's usually alright f2p alternatives, but the signatures are noticeably better and in some cases feel pretty necessary.
In ZZZ, main DPS often really want their signature or a 5-star standard weapon while supports and sub DPS are basically always fine going 4-star options. The 4-star dps options are massively lacking and in ZZZ more damage is concentrated into the main DPS due to the 3 character team size, prevalence of buffs, and mechanics like stun.
Genshin restricts by weapon types, and character archetypes are spread over all weapon types, so every type gets a good mix of offense and support options for all stat alignment.
In HSR, you **need** the active effect to be a good fit for the character, as that's the primary benefit of the Light Cone. In Genshin, you can get away with using a weapon that doesn't have a great effect as long as it matches the stat you need. Prototype Amber is one of the best examples of this; the healing effect is *can* be decent, but just having a HP% stat stick is really strong given how many HP scaling catalyst characters there are.
HSR being entirely turn-based removes any benefit from skilled gameplay you might get. You can’t make up for bad LCs with skillful play. Additionally, there are no elemental reaction mechanics. Each element does its own thing, and one special thing on weakness break.
So the only way to improve your HSR game play is with team comps (pulling meta characters) and better gear (LC dependency.)
Pwjs will always be the second or third best polerarm for all polerarm users. This is the same with redhorn and aqua.
Back in them early days, Hoyo was in something of a stat stick phase and a lotta 5-star weaps just straight up boosted particular stats with hardly any kit interaction 'requirements.'
In contrast, this week I pulled my 2nd copy of Ineffa's sig to get Bina's. I had no choice but to use it for refinement cuz I could not see any reason to have it lying around for anyone else (Xiangling Polearm Archon memes notwithstanding).
Edit: the event weapon that you mentioned (Etherlight Spindlelute) is really mid for her. It’s mainly for support that need both EM and somewhat burst reliant like Nahida/Lauma/Citlali and in some cases, sac frag can be better for them.
it´s a Lauma piece ;) or at least thats were i stuffed it
my Colombina runs Sacrificial Jade atm,
Can't complain tho PA is amazing
The weapon banner 4* is better, but Chain Breaker or Song of Stillness are still very damn good options. I'm not sure why the other person brought up Chasca since she's not even close to needing her signature.
My mavuika uses natlans craftable and hits 300k with no melt.
For carries not so much. Even the best F2P alternatives are a pretty big dmg falloff compared to their respective sigs.
Mavuika, Skirk, Varesa are nice examples of that. I’m not saying they are not functional, mind you, just that the gap is there and quite evident.
It grabs me by the hands. I read it. I flip its pages. I give it refinements. It isn't satisfied. I pull Kagura's Verity. "Most characters can't use that passive" It reads to me. "Get me on-field at the right moment." It grabs Bennett and forces him to buff its low ATK value. "You just need to restart the chamber. I can deal more damage with Aria buff."
I can't get Aria buff, restarting the chamber didn't reset my cooldowns. It grabs my rotations. They desync. "Guess this is the end." It grabs its theme songs. It recites "Flute, get them." There is no hint of sadness in its pages. Nothing but broken, no uptime buffs. What a cruel world.
Yes the passives also contribute but its so much easier to maximize the potential of a DPS when you can build around a crit stick and invest more into different substats.
Flins is probably the best example of this. He benefits greatly from having a good crit split, a lot of attack, and some EM and ER. Flins' sig gives crit rate, crit dmg, and ER. On top of having an artifact set that gives crit rate, even your average flins main can hit 70/200 crit, 130 ER, 200 EM and 2000 attack
Plus there are a lot of five-stars that are generic enough to be worth pulling because they work for pretty much everyone.
Needing attack and ER and crit made it feel fresh.
Or Skyward Harp and my Chasca in overworld will be happy
Me, a day 1 player.
Per KQM, It's his best f2p weapon at low ER (~120%) requirements.
At higher requirements, you use PAmber
DDD for most Harmony units.
Eyes of Prey and the Pela LC for Nihility
Fall of an Aeon for Destruction Units
Anniversary Owlbert LC for Erudition units
Abundance and Preservation can use whatever.
HSR has gotten pretty good about releasing event LCs that are the second best alternatives for their units.
Basically imagine if Genshin just released like 5 characters using a new weapon type, with those characters not even having the same scaling so they can't all share a 5\* weapon you pulled, and most of the f2p ones are complete ass. So you pretty much pull for their signature or are fucked. That's basically what happened during the 3.x of HSR, and what's gonna happen in 4.x.
I'm a Jiaoqiu main, so I'm just grabbing buffed Black Swan and Hysilens E1 (she's due for a rerun and most likely will run alongside her) and going to continue saving for his E6.
And by "F2P" I mean true F2P LCs, aka no wish 4\* LCs.
Edit too ask
Or did u use them for another craftable
Even funnier that you can mention Cyno to New Valet(Cyno would eat him alive with his puns) :"D
Support weapons are pretty easy to find thankfully
DPS weapons on the other hand is a bit harder but sometimes you get nice craftables like the shovel for Flins and Ineffa
It's just that it is similar to Furina's signature; she's a support where her personal weapon is a selfish DPS increase, which makes it relatively low value and generally pushes its usefulness into higher constellation investment (though not as sharply as Furina's is because it includes an ER passive this time.)
It's also better for her on-field playstyle than off-field, though it's still her bis either way
Going from Prototype Amber to her sig basically increases her damage by 50% from my own testing, however her total contribution on the team varies from 15-30% of the team's damage, so a 50% increase to her own damage might not do as much as getting a signature weapon for your main DPS.
Some Event Weap also
Ororon Bow 6.2, the Healing magical staff that is godlike for Chevreuse,....
Cinabar for def scalers
Festering desire in 1.1 not 1.0 also lmao
Mine has favcod equipped and she basically can spam two bursts and have a third ready in a basic wild hunt encounter it's disgusting
Mona? PA.
Nahida? PA.
Sucrose? PA.
Mualani in specific comps? You know the answer.
Columbina lucked out extremely well with the HP% scaling. Considering how I'm willing to tank some units' effectiveness for the healing boost, I don't think any amount buffs on her sig could make me pull for it. Prototype Amber is too valuable in my eyes.
