What are your thoughts on Dottore? Especially after the AQ?
In a nutshell, he's an evil son of a bitch but a very good villain and compelling one at that genshin has been lacking. I really like him as a character but boy oh boy would I be running for the hills I met someone like him in real life.

Lygus instead 👏🏾
It definitely felt like a downgrade compared to what he did in Tatarasuna Island
Also Lycurgus is absolute cinema
lmao rip bozo, get obliterated
Unironically I think story should have been even longer to better flush him out 😂
Unless i am miss-remembering in the story he literally told us he overcome his own fate with the 3 moons, and wanted the traveller to be an observer for his own world to make it more interesting as he's an outsider/unknown variable.
Dottore literally can't overcome his own fate without being a descender. If he overpowers everything, that *is* his fate. The only way to defy fate and do something not already foretold is to be or associate with a descender.
That's what I mean by hidden lore. Believe for nod Krai they said in an interview they wanted to cut down on that stuff due to most players not understanding the lore/story of the game. Too much was hidden in artifics/books or in exploration which 99% players overlooked.
Anyways, thanks for clearing up my confusion. Was thinking he had a crush on the traveller with how persistent he was 😂
“Do not try to control me stubborn world!” like 5 times.
That’s why he was doing the animal and person swapping experiment in the giant domes
Personally I liked Rerir as a Villain a smidge more.
But they're pretty close.
Hope he’s dead though.
I hope you are exaggerating because he is nowehere close to someone like Rhinedottir for example.
Traveler: Sure
Dottore: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
He so far feels like a genuine Harbinger and one who's been sidelined or turned into a joke.
Sadly, once again he's just an obstacle that's easily cleared by the heroes and not much of an actual threat.
I do believe that Dottore would have upheld his end of the deal, as he did with Nahida, but it would have resulted in the Traveller causing a great deal of harm that would be too far for their conscience to feel right with. Plus, the Traveller wants to actually earn the answers they seek through experience and growth, not taking shortcuts like what Dottore promised.
Its more like an analogy than a prophecy of something that happen physically.
But yeah the glitch means there is a clone somewhere.
Also we have to keep in mind that he has the ability to alter memories, he could have easily implanted them into the main gang for them to think that he’s dead, meanwhile he might have gotten at best gravely injured. He’s definitely somewhere and his comeback would be as epic as it was before.
Let's see what Hoyo cooks.
Then other issues but are due to plot(armor) and story reasons.
In short, he needed more patch. Lygus from HSR was real omnipresent and so, memorable villain.
As character, I like him, and I dream to have him playable...
I’m not a Dottore main, so I don’t follow every little crumb of his lore. That’s why I feel very little connection to him. I don’t really know his motives or goals, or why he wants the Traveler so badly, etc.
I think it’s a similar situation to Rosalyn, but handled a bit better since we’ve known him for longer.
Btw a few minutes ago, I saw a thread theorizing about why dottore wants traveler so badly, and it was really interesting.
Chances are he knew what was in there. They used to work together, after all
For a time he was basically shade/shades level of power, which we know from Inazuma are a higher power/tier of god entity. Among the various powers at his disposal was the manipulation of time. He actually used this power on the traveler and ended up advancing time for them by a month. He says he needs more experience with that power to gain finer control.
Well, over the course of the AQ he is running “experiments” within his shielded dome structures. How much time passed for Dottore within those domes? There is no doubt in my mind that he was practicing with his power over time. If we look to the AQ itself for reference, we see that Columbina was able to travel backwards through time and even interact with the past because she left a part of her soul (luonatar) behind.
Now here’s where it gets crazy. If a moon goddess can technically influence the past because a piece of her exists in the past, all of this possible by entering the reflection of the moon, then why can’t Dottore influence the past with the connection of his segments? Think about it, Dottore is a moon god that has pieces of his soul/self in the past. He could absolutely enter the reflection of the moon and travel back in time and influence events just like Columbina.
Perhaps his return will be made possible through this use of moon powers. Perhaps Irminsul gets burned because he is able to do this. When he is “defeated” in the AQ we assume he is gone as no trace of him is to be found. But could we actually “see” the actions of an entity capable of using time powers? Traveler experiences a loss of one months time in a blink of an eye at the hands of Dottore.
So just how far ahead was he able to think and plan? How much did he discover within his shielded domes? How much time passed for Dottore with those domes? Did he discover a way to return just like Columbina? If the burning of Irminsul is a “future” event, then it seems the answer is in some way, a yes.
His attempt to appeal to the traveler, despite all his brilliance, was “but don’t you want to kill people for fun?” I feel like it’s been a while since Genshin has had such a generically evil villain, particularly because most villains at least have some sort of ulterior motive such as the gnosis or fighting against a greater evil. Dottore’s motives were mostly because he was just bored/curious, so it removes a layer of depth that could otherwise be there.
It almost seemed forced that Traveler was actually contemplating Dottore’s words rather than rolling his eyes the whole time.
That being said, I was entertained during the AQ and invested in taking Dottore down so from that standpoint he was effective. I’m not mad, just a bit unimpressed.
Dottore would have needed more than 1 patch to grow on me. (Yeah I'm aware that there is foreshadowing and we know him since a lot of time) Finishing Dottore in 1 patch feels short for me.
Like "I am a god and I have transcended mortal morality" and a little less "I know I am doing bad things but I don't care hehe"
Many people also hate him which is understandable, he is a terrible person, a character who was literally made to be hated but damn, he is so charismatic and interesting, that disliking him feels like a crime.
So yeah, I totally like him and wish he appeared more ( if he appears again, which he probably will do, then it’ll probably look weird and not so impressive cause after what he achieved now, seeing him still be alive and doing some evil stuff will just… bad. He achieved so much and paid pretty much nothing for his lose? Plus I don’t think he’d be able to get as strong / stronger than that )
Although I must admit it would be both funny and interesting if he gained even more power in Snezhnaya and both we, all Fatui,Tsaritsa and even heavenly principles / witches would combine their powers against him
100/10 plot twist I was both horrified and intrigued by.
New research needed variables and wanted traveler to work with him: rejected
Rejection never stopped him tho and he never faltered from his beliefs and methods till the end. That makes him a great villain in my eyes.
A lot of what happened in the last two acts went pretty much unexplained.
I like him as a villain, but I do hope we get some answers to certain questions before long.
Imagine him going "As a show of sincerity, you can have these." and dropping 1600 Primogems in front of Traveler.
Dunno about the Traveler but the players would sure as hell be on his side after that.
But as a plot device, he was a good villain.
I don’t believe he’s dead. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up in the Space saga with us after Teyvat.
NK AQ made him look like a bratty conceited bad guy who got punished for being stupid.
though i acknowledge that he does have a giant ego, so of course him underestimating people would be his downfall from the start
overall still, good villain and payoff was nice!! boss fight was really fun too !!
and the sound effects when time rewinds or something, bro sounded like the World
still a bit lost why he doesnt want to kill us and instead wants is to join him when he's already omnipotent as he is
Him being a main villain in Nod Krai? bro botched it so hard he was so unbelievably boring
Rerir is a coward, but Dotorre's pathetic. The former has goals I can sympathise with even as I despise the means, but the former goes about everything with the kind of impatience and fragility of ego I associate with children and narcissists. Rerir's fall was tragic, as he was put into a situation that he was honestly too weak of a person to do any better, meanwhile Dotorre just makes me want to sigh and face-palm at what shenanigans he's doing.
Like I can frame it all like with the Batman Villains: Mr Freeze and the Joker as Rerir and Dotorre respectively. Victor Fries is compelling as an antagonist because his goal is rather relatable as with Rerir. Joker and Dotorre on the other hand are just problems incarnated as a person. Where things get compelling is the possibility of cooperation and prevention of harm had circumstances been different - because Rerir's goals come from understandable foundations you can imagine how things could've been better, but with Dotorre it's nothing but a trainwreck from start to finish.
Imo Rerir is better as an endgame villain while Dotorre is ultimately midboss material.
I'm certain his story isn't over yet, I don't know if they'll do a redemption route but I'm a sucker for extremely bad person becomes morally grey person in good guy's friend group
Also, I bet he’s still alive too, I don’t know what the glitching out meant at the end of the AQ, but the fact that Dottore is known for creating segments of himself, and he is now just dead? Something doesn’t feel right
His dialogue to the traveller in the latest AQ felt like it was breaking the fourth wall and talking directly to me the player and I loved it, it added to his sense of omnipotence.
Sadly though it all culminated in a generic battle of good vs evil with the obvious good team winning and him not really doing anything with his “crazy powers”
I hope they bring him back and I hope they decide to increase the stakes in this game and start killing a few people.
Also it's crazy that the traveler didnt make a single point in the whole conversación
