The new traveler outfit looks nice, but the usage of it is inconsistent even within a single mission

This isn't even the worst of it. There was a guy a couple days ago who had an Inazuma world quest lock up inexplicably. The problem? He was using the new outfit.
Again: Genshin isn't a well built game.
It's a game that's just too simple to run into the bugs that having features would bring.
Entire-Plan9352026-01-19 00:01
It's not a bug. Genshin quests have two versions of the traveller. One is the one you can add to your party and play with, the other works similarly to trial characters, since the devs realized many people don't build the traveller. Whicone is being used is very inconsistent, but intentional.
issm2026-01-19 00:07
If you want to be technical, sure.
It might be intended behaviour, but it's certainly intended behaviour demonstrating a lack of attention to detail.
Now, the Inazuma quest locking up with the new outfit equipped? If you want to call *that* - locking up the quest without an in game notification to switch to the old outfit - intended behaviour, you're just straight up calling Mihoyo's devs incompetent.
BurrakuDusk2026-01-19 01:04
I do actually plan on building my traveler now because of the new skin, but I'm just not sure what element to go with.
I'm really interested in the Lunar Arcanum the game's achievements seems to be teasing, but at the same time, I really like the Pyro kit.
I also have no idea what Cryo Traveler will be like.
Ack.
Zrva_V32026-01-19 01:13
I've been enjoying the pyro traveler so far. I use him with my Chasca.
iamonlyslightlysalty2026-01-19 01:17
pyro mc is really, really fun imo as a long time Traveler main. if you have their C6, you can play them in overload, melt, vaporize, you name it - and it's actually quite good! zajef did a 4 star only run of the newest abyss just today and there's a video of it on YT from a clip channel - he played overload Pyro Traveler on the first side and they did REALLY well. those base stat buffs are nothing to scoff at whatsoever, and especially for PMC, the new charged attack is really nice since it weaves naturally into their onfield combos if you're playing them as a DPS.
KazakiriKaoru2026-01-19 03:01
Best one for onfield is Pyro 4pc obsidian with ATK-EM/Pyro/Crit
Offield is either dendro, pyro or anemo
Hotspur0002026-01-19 04:33
Dendro or pyro are the best so far, but you might want Geo for Lunar Crystalize if you don't have a lot of other suitable Geo characters.
ejsks2026-01-19 00:20
I mean we know Genshin is spaghetti code lol
It‘s why a ton of QoL changes have taken ages to get to us. The devs had to figure out 1) is it implementable without bricking the game, and if not then 2) how do you clean up the code so you can implement it without bricking the game
issm2026-01-19 00:24
Do "we" though?
There's a substantial subset of this subreddit that praises Mihoyo for delivering a well optimized, bug free game, and they actively praise Mihoyo for how much QoL they deliver.
There's that one guy who apparently has a habit of making a list of all of the hundreds(!!!!!) of QoL features Mihoyo's implemented over the years.
ejsks2026-01-19 00:32
I mean I‘m fairly certain most of the people who‘ve delved into Genshin enough know the code beneath the game is by all means spaghetti.
But the people praising the game for being, for the most part, bug-free and fairly well optimized also aren’t wrong. Yes, the game has bugs, a decent chunk of them, but actual game-breaking bugs have been really rare for the most part.
It‘s still a massive oversight that a world quest can get soft-locked due to a choice in outfit, don’t get me wrong though.
issm2026-01-19 03:20
> But the people praising the game for being, for the most part, bug-free and fairly well optimized also aren’t wrong
Refer to original comment.
Genshin isn't "bug free" and "runs well" (=/=well optimized) because Mihoyo is just that good, Genshin is simply just not that ambitious a project.
Like, we know for a fact that Genshin CAN run on Switch, because people have done it with mods - poorly to be sure, but we also know that games visually similar to Genshin, BotW, TotK, *can* run well on Switch. Because those are actually optimized to hell and back.
Mihoyo could have optimized Genshin to that degree, but they didn't, because, again, Genshin isn't well optimized, it just isn't super ambitious to begin with.
Or taking another example, looking back at some Digital Foundry tech reviews of Genshin 1.51 on ***PS5***, Genshin was dropping frames left and right, and that was an improvement from before, where it was dropping down to 40+FPS.
It's actually impressive that Mihoyo could screw that up that badly, seeing as console is the best case scenario for optimization, and a closest hardware equivalent PC (Ryzen 5500/Radeon6700) manages a locked 60FPS in the same scenario, with utilization to spare.
Fazz002026-01-19 00:41
And? Which part of being a well optimised, moatly bug free game and that they have also implemented a lot of QoL over the time as well is wrong?
TheArcher05272026-01-19 01:34
It's wrong, because if you appreciate anything hoyo does, then you're a hoyo shill or smth.
Now look at how traveler's outfit changes midquest or smth! Do you see how incopetent these devs are? Do you see in how terrible state the game is?!
Or smth like that.
Tomazulo2026-01-19 02:31
Is this satire lol
TheArcher05272026-01-19 03:04
Wha-, I would never!!!
...or something like that. *wink wink
issm2026-01-19 02:35
They haven't implemented a lot of QoL for one.
90% of QoL falls into 2 categories: 1) Basic features that should have been there at launch, like Android controller support, and 2) Tweaks to systems that were deliberately made to be miserable to be slightly less miserable, like artefact crafting.
> moatly bug free
6 years in and I still can't get my controller to connect consistently if Genshin is running.
Refer to my first comment.
Insofar as Genshin is "bug free", it's bug free because it's too simple to have bugs. You can't have buggy features if you don't have features.
> well optimised
Cool, when can I get the 30GB of storage taken up by useless video cutscenes back?
Again, Genshin isn't well optimized. It's more just that it isn't especially ambitious with it's graphics.
Yes, even on mobile. Genshin is hardly the first game with a large world on even low end phones.
Supreme-Machine-V22026-01-19 15:15
My guy got downvoted for speaking facts lmao
mommysanalservant2026-01-19 01:26
I feel like people are misreading your comment because the down votes don't make much sense. If someone's quest was literally locked up, as in they couldn't proceed because they're wearing the new outfit and especially without any notification then that definitely is a bug.
focushafnium2026-01-19 01:38
It's probably because dude has such a huge hoyo hate boner, it's almost like Dawei himself kidnapped his daughter or something.
mommysanalservant2026-01-19 02:46
Having read through his comment history I don't see a hoyo hate boner. I see a hoyo fan hate boner and tbh that's pretty fucking valid. *Gestures vaguely at Google classroom debacle.* Even ignoring that this is one of the worst communities I've ever seen for dog piling and mass downvoting over opinions. Downvotes aren't supposed to be a popularity contest, they're supposed to filter out irrelevant and off topic comments, spam or borderline abusive comments. Instead, here at least, they're used for anyone who posts any opinion thats even remotely disagreeable.
As for the critique here about someone's quest breaking over an outfit, that's very valid. Genshin puts way too much on exclusive conditions. The whole you can't do quest a because a character is tied up in quest b for example. Most of these issues wouldn't exist if they just never put that ridiculous system in place to begin with.
MartinZ022026-01-19 03:18
Idk what universe you live in, but there is no common understanding of what downvotes are "supposed" to be used for, other than that they're associated with something being disliked, which can happen for any number of reasons. In fact, I'd say it's actually the norm for people to downvote based on simple differences in opinion, not just on Reddit, but practically every social media site. Obviously you can be of the opinion that it's a bad and unproductive practice, but it's certainly not an opinion held by people at large.
mommysanalservant2026-01-19 03:27
[Reddit's official Redditquette guide.](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/205926439-Reddiquette)
Under the section titled "Please don't"
>Downvote an otherwise acceptable post because you don't personally like it. Think before you downvote and take a moment to ensure you're downvoting someone because they are not contributing to the community dialogue or discussion. If you simply take a moment to stop, think and examine your reasons for downvoting, rather than doing so out of an emotional reaction, you will ensure that your downvotes are given for good reasons.
Downvoting because you disagree with someone is explicitly not what they're supposed to be used for.
On top of that disagreement is the backbone of discussion. Reddit is supposed to be a place for discussion. Dogpiling and ostracizing over every disagreement reduces it from a discussion forum to an echo chamber.
Meettherubbish2026-01-19 03:57
Acting like ANY redditor reads the reddiquette guide before using the website is the funniest thought ever. That's like thinking people read terms and conditions before agreeing to them when making social media accounts. This is even my first time hearing of this "guide" to begin with, at least terms and conditions are mandatory agreements before making an account, while those are just suggestions u have to go out of your way to find... yet you think everyone must follow the suggestion.
ALL subreddits use downvotes the same, this one included, and it's to say "yeah I dislike this post/comment". Not hard to notice that.
issm2026-01-19 03:23
> dude has such a huge hoyo hate boner
Dude doesn't grade Hoyo on a curve just because he plays their game.
Tomazulo2026-01-19 02:30
I mean he's calling genshin a "simple" game, he doesn't understand a thing about game development, or software in general, the game is far from simple.
Is genshin code a spaghetti? highly likely, simply because most if not all software developed with new features spanning 6 years become spaghetti. For games this large it's impossible to tested every regression case
Yet the guy just went "it's not well built"
issm2026-01-19 02:54
Edit: Everyone who doesn't agree with me is ragebaiting.
> I mean he's calling genshin a "simple" game, he doesn't understand a thing about game development, or software in general, the game is far from simple.
Cool, explain how it's complex?
Genshin is a game where 90% of the content is linear and independant.
There isn't even the basic RPG illusion of choice branching where you get a short section that's different depending on what you pick, Genshin often doesn't even change the literal next line of dialogue.
There's maybe a handful of quests in the game where there's more than one prerequisite, and the game almost seems like it's been deliberately built so that nothing affects anything else.
I say Genshin isn't well built because it's not.
The second you get a tiny bit of complexity, for example, "hey, we want this object to be an enemy, but we don't want it to be a mob, so we're going to add a new object class", character skills start acting weirdly, like how Arlecchino can't collect bonds from PMA adds after they "die", or how Yelan's E can't hit the ASIMON boss's adds.
Shit, I more or less stopped playing Mualani because her kit is so inconsistent, sometimes she'd just go flying off somewhere after a chomp, and her AoE missiles would randomly just not do anything.
> For games this large it's impossible to tested every regression case
It's impossible to test whether or not the new outfit you literally just released will consistently show up in the side quests you also literally just released.
It's just too much work.
Literally nothing they could do about it.
Oh, also, character's noses suddenly teleporting halfway across their face when they turn their head on screen? Also definitely nothing they can do.
Tomazulo2026-01-19 03:47
nah mate, I don't owe you any explanation, enjoy ragebaiting, lol
liam210152026-01-18 23:04
Files suggest a fix next version
Bluetooth_Speaker12026-01-19 02:42
Yeah we know, why does everyone feel the need to make their own separate post about it?? Lol like we know this already
EssexOnAStick2026-01-19 11:29
That's a general issue, nobody takes the time anymore to check if the thing they want to post about has been posted before. It's so frustrating if you want to add something to an existing topic but there's already like half a dozen discussions on it.
Bluetooth_Speaker12026-01-19 21:29
Oh i know, happens with everything- its pretty annoying because people could easily see if the thing they posted about has already been brought up and yet they don't even try smh every time something happens in one of the games i play, its like "and here come the 28372 posts about this issue.."
edavidfb0172026-01-19 03:17
I decided to use the old one while they fix it.
Khrysanthemums2026-01-19 03:34
I'm still waiting for them to bring in allowing us to switch between the twins.
XianzhouLiyue_GaMing2026-01-19 03:41
in star rail, maybe, but genshin's opposite twin is crucial in the plot as a complete seperate enemy/npc character, unlike the zzz proxies
BullseyeLord2026-01-19 06:07
Based flair.
Hotspur0002026-01-19 04:32
Have you actually played this game?
Khrysanthemums2026-01-19 06:07
I have not recently - but I played a lot before.
I still rather have the option to change genders. I just never understood why they locked it when I feel like I haven't seen anything to make it have to be locked in.
Put it on a cool down timer or something. I just wish I had an option to change when the game became very evident to be played from the male twins perspective after a while.
Hotspur0002026-01-19 06:13
Because the other twin is not just 'the same character of a different gender' – they're literally their own character with their own story and character which is completely different from the one you choose at the beginning.
So in this case it wouldn't work.
LiamMorg2026-01-19 07:24
The first one is a scripted sequence and the second is fully in-game. Not defending it, it's really jarring, but there's a discernable logic to when it snaps to default.
Desperate-Owl-48302026-01-19 08:44
I decided to not do WQ or painfully delay columbina selenic for now and wait for next version believing if the leak was true that they fix it.
