is returning to the game worth it now?
ive been a fan of this game ever since 1.4, but i quit around when sumeru first came out. im planning on coming back on a new account since i cant remember my email to my old one, but is this even worth it? the amount of new content since ive last played is seriously intimidating...

Either way, the time investment coming back is still pretty big. I did what the OP did last year. Started in March (after Sumeru) and it took until like Oct/Nov before I was caught up to where I was before with mostly 80-100% everything in the game. Somedays doing just dailies, but a few days playing longer and some days just 1-2 hrs a day. It's a time commitment.
You can burn resin x2 as fast for leylines, domains, etc. The later compasses in Nod Krai for example is very nice. The Natlan characters added quite a bit of mobility tools if you do ever pick one up.
If you just play this as a videogame that you play without some odd need to "catch up" then it's always a good time to start.
I quit during the Fontane arc and wanted to come back now. I was aiming to get Columbina and Varka in the next patch. I expected to be showered with primogems and quality-of-life improvements like in Honkai: Star Rail when you are a returner, but that wasn't the case.
I had enough primogems to guarantee Columbina, but I don't have a party that can actually benefit from her. That said, since she's still a great character, I was going to pull for her anyway.
So I started by leveling up other characters for her and completely lost the motivation to play…
Leveling characters is such a frustrating grind! All is time gated and resources are never enough… I didn’t remember to be that bad but it is!
After two days of farming, I barely got one of them to level 70 with half-leveled talents and terrible artifact stats. To the point that they are not even usable for exploration!
I killed the same boss too many consecutive times for nothing, exhausted all my resin, and completely burned myself out on the game.
I was honestly curious about completing the main story, but in the end the game is too demanding. The character leveling experience lacks quality-of-life features to the point where I don't want to pull anymore.
I can’t see a way to return to the game if you paused long time ago. Your party will probably be outdated and basically not usable right away, and the game won’t help you in alleviating the burden of leveling up new characters in any way.
