When a character is written as a villain and is hated by many for what they do as a villain, then the writing is likely really good
PrebbyEdits2026-01-19 07:28
I mean I literally thought the same but many people probably like the good written hero more than the good written villain
DottoresPet2026-01-19 08:03
Donquixote Doflamingo is a well written villain too and people don't spam gore of him or harass his fans constantly, which is what Dottore antis do for a living
JadedIT_Tech2026-01-19 07:27
I mean, the game pretty unambiguously paints him as a psychotic narcissistic piece of shit
floricel_1122026-01-19 07:29
You know he's a selfish, self absorbed, no morals, no scruples, no ethics, arrogant, mad scientist, sociopath who performed many unethical, immoral, highly inhuman experiments on countless test subjects, and who is responsible for the suffering of several of the characters?
No_Fun_79272026-01-19 08:53
Not to mention that he had the power to properly end the group. But his ego got in the way. I never liked him once I got to Sumeru as he is one of the villians in genshin that just does evil things cause they have no one who could stop or punish them. Hell, even the HP are more redeemable as they only react when they are forced to or laws are broken. Sure, it may be cruel, but it's still a punishment.
But to mention, he is directly responsible for the most suffering for many characters in the story so far, spanning all over the continent, either directly or indirectly
DottoresPet2026-01-19 13:12
Not everything Dottore does is his "ego". He had no reason to just kill everyone. He was OBSERVING what was in his eyes an experiment. He literally said that he prefers test subjects alive than dead in many cases.
And the way you scapegoated him is not only factually wrong, but also shows why I strongly suspect you to be a skip button wanter.
Tamamo_was_here2026-01-19 07:31
At the moment in the stories, he honestly is just a bad person. Really no redeeming qualities and has hurt a lot of people. Using others a lab rats and cares only about his own research.
He swapped living people’s bodies with animals and they watched their lifeless bodies. Dude comes off as an evil Saturday morning cartoon level villain. The devs did a good job with him because I honestly don’t like him.
I don’t think I’ll ever enjoy a character like that.
DottoresPet2026-01-19 08:05
"He's one dimensional but also well written"
Can't decide?
Fabulous_Ground_19832026-01-19 07:31
Cause he's an effective villain
Folfenac2026-01-19 07:32
inb4 his family was actually tortured in front of him, he got bullied in school and is actually a sad sad boy, so we have to feel bad for him. AKA he's about to be playable. /s
EDIT: Yeesh, didn't think this would be taken so seriously. FWIW, I can't think of a way to actually redeem him besides him being like possessed the entire time, at which point he wouldn't even be Dottore anymore.
Cheesecake-_2026-01-19 07:33
He used to kidnap small children and conduct experiments on them with the random things like residual powers of dead gods, collei was one of them and if u read manga u will get clear idea. He kills his own subordinates in the name of progress, Lied and Tricked everyone who ever met him for his own personal gains. Tried to use scaramouche as test subject for Man-made God. There's more but I hope u got an idea why everyone hates him. Zero redeeming qualities, There's no good or bad reason for what he does. He was born with intellect. He just likes to poke around and find what happens.
babangelsin2026-01-19 07:34
Might wanna define "hated"
People thinking that a fictional character is evil doesn't necessarily mean they are experiencing hatred
iamonlyslightlysalty2026-01-19 07:41
he's just an awful person, as far as I'm concerned there's nothing to like about him. the narrative of the game itself pushes you to dislike him itself - he's a self-absorbed, narcissistic lunatic with no regard for anything or anyone but himself. manipulative to his core and barely even worth calling a human.
Livid_Boysenberry_582026-01-19 07:52
There's a difference between hating a character and hating their writing.
Dottore's writing is immaculate.
And he's completely deplorable
Ryuunoru2026-01-19 07:56
"Why is a mass murdering psychopath hated, wtf bro"
DottoresPet2026-01-19 08:01
Because media literacy is at rock bottom and people fall for anything up they see on tiktok
Appropriate-Bay-5762026-01-19 12:25
Name checks out
unktrial2026-01-19 08:58
He's done a lot of gruesome human experiments. In the latest archon quest, we finally get to talk to him, and he gets to explain his reasoning...
and his personality is just a power hungry edgelord. He convinces himself that once he's got unlimited power, no-one else matters, so he can hurt people as much as he wants. At the same time, what he really wants is to be worshipped, so he makes up a bunch of inconsistent BS to pretend to be a benevolent overlord. And then whines that no-one appreciates him.
In other words, he doesn't just do bad stuff, he does it for an annoyingly bad reason.
ElricaLavandula2026-01-19 09:37
He's just evil with nothing to like about him and not even charismatic or anything.
Compared to for example Lygus from HSR, who wasn't simply a narcissistic evil person (he was evil but he wasn't *only* despicable and nothing else), Lygus is popular because he has this kind of weird and interesting presence about him? You can still kind of understand where he's coming from even if you don't agree. While with Dottore you can't because he's just pure evil in everything he's ever done.
I'm not saying Dottore is a bad villain. The writing is good, so he's a good villain. Just not a likeable villain. He's meant to be hated compared to more charismatic villains.
Edit: Aaaaaand they blocked me. HAHAHAHA, I guess I hit a nerve there. Talk about immature.
DottoresPet2026-01-19 12:55
Dottore? Not likeable? HAHAHAHAHA, guess you're just not into men, the entire point of his character is to be sold in a gacha game, the amount of fanservice he has disproves your statement.
ElricaLavandula2026-01-19 13:03
His *personality* is *likeable*?
What has all that to do with being "into" someone?
And why are all other comments who literally said the same as I, as in Dottore not having a likeable personality or any redeeming qualities not being downvoted or laughed at?
Edit: oh, sorry, just saw your username now, guess I fell for the bait.
Edit 2: you're quick. Nothing to do except for thirsting for and defending fictional characters?
DottoresPet2026-01-19 13:05
How the fuck is my username relevant to the argument? That is an ad hominem right there.
ElricaLavandula2026-01-19 13:16
Uhh, alright, I now think you're just very young if other people not liking the same (very controversial) fictional characters triggers you so much.
Your username is relevant because of the way you act. Of course you like Dottore a lot if you call yourself that. Your name *and* especially what you write tells me you have a very subjective opinion about this topic, so it's not worth it to discuss it any further as it won't have any meaningful outcome anyway. That's what I meant.
lostn2026-01-19 10:04
ikr, he's just a chill guy that's misunderstood.
Plus-Theme-32832026-01-19 12:07
Because it's made to be like that, there is a good chance everyone you see hate him is infact love him because he made his job really well like me
fiersome082026-01-19 13:17
He killed Sandrone
But jokes aside, it’s because the writers want Dottore to be hated. I mean, why would they write a villain who did many evil deeds purely for selfish reasons and then expect him to be likable?
