As a 1.0 player, I’ve seen so many discussions like this in twt but i just want to freshen up my memory on what were popular but just never happened lol.

- New World Level unlocking new chests. I myself believed this because I found a chest where it 100% wasn't before. Turns out that was due to a daily commission removing the chest temporarily when I first explored the area.
- Free Ayaka for [reason varied]. A lot of people thought Inazuma was going to give her away to celebrate the new region lol
- Kokomi being the water dragon sovereign reborn (those hints were teasing Neuvillete lol)
- In the first week of game launch I personally had a friend 100% seriously tell me Venti the genderless wind spirit was going to get a female body outfit to match the Honkai girl he's based off (Wendy) more closely. I never saw this rumour online but.... At least one person believed it.

The funny thing about Venti is that the opposite happened. Venti was introduced inthe Genshin comic in 2018, and there he uses his white outfit for the first time. In 2019, GGZ reintroduced Wendy into the series with a design similar to Venti's white fit.

Wendy first appeared in the HI3 prologue teaser comic in 2015. She then appeared in-game in 2016.
In GGZ, Wendy didn't appear until 2019 iirc. Meaning Venti popped in between those two.

The free Ayaka one was getting her at WL 42. This was because in the beta or alpha (not sure), once you reached WL42, you would unlock Ayaka.

I'm still sad about Kokomi. I do like what they did with Neuvi, but Kokomi and Watatsumi had so much potentially going for it, and Hoyo just wiffed it or gave it to others.

Not really a rumor/leak but i remember watching a theory before sumeru came out about how baizhu is actually the dendro archon that was infected with eleazar and escaped to liyue to find a cure iirc. I really trusted that guy cause he was so convincing, and then I got really disappointed when it didn't come true😭🙏

There was a "leak" going around early before inazuma that stated Ganyu and HuTao would be nerves because they're to overpowered.
Obviously this would never happen because they would literally get in trouble with the law (they already nearly did because of Zhongli's underpowered kit ln release) but I heared it here and there.

Idk about chinese laws, but in other gacha games like FGO changing character kits after release has being the norm since the early days, so i doubt the law has any involvement in it. Even in MMORPG games like FFXIV there are constant nerfs and changes after a new class is released in order to keep it in line with the rest of the cast.
Nerfs and buffs are an integral part of every game because every game needs a certain balance that inevitably shifts with more and more updates. Apart from losing the entire playerbase, i doubt that anything can stop them from tomorrow releasing a patch note saying "fixed Mavuika base attack to 1 as originally intended".
People usually talk about the law when discussing what happened to the obviously unintended spin2win mechanic on Neuvillette that was changed and then reverted back after the community dumb uprise, but honestly imo they could and should have kept the fix because it was clearly something that wasn't intended to work that way.
