Istg those skill description drives me insane, i just wanna know how the character works

Yeah it's getting ridiculous how much text they can write to say pretty much nothing. So many characters have extremely simple kits yet their talent description looks like it was written by Nicole on crack.
kokko6932026-01-19 16:08
Nicole on crack LMAO
La-Roca992026-01-19 16:12
They were written while she was sober
WhooooCares2026-01-19 15:29
I’m sorry, yea it’s long but this is a reading comprehension issue. The description isn’t complex.
Just like school some as better students than others. I miss when it was mostly nerds that played games like this.
coldestclock2026-01-19 15:31
Clear and concise writing is also a skill.
WhooooCares2026-01-19 15:38
I knew I’d be downvoted.
I’ve worked tech support and with the general public. “Press Menu to watch TV” is too complex for A LOT of people. I took hundreds of those calls. It is what it is.
ChaHa_alt2026-01-19 15:45
If you throw a wall of text at people, they won't read it. Period. So if you want to teach them something, you're gonna have to be smarter than that. The first step is less text, more clarity. The details could be seen through a toggle or something if you really want it to be there.
WhooooCares2026-01-19 15:51
At some point people have to acknowledge we don't have the same brains. People hate admitting when something is above their heads, they misdirect their anger and frustration instead. Not everyone has to wait for a Content Creator to tell them what a kit does.
ChaHa_alt2026-01-19 16:06
It's the game designer's job to make the game accessible and approachable to as many players as possible. And looking at their approach to the rest of the game, it's clearly something they care a lot about. Yet they don't provide that accessibility when it comes to tutorials and game mechanics explanations. It goes against their own design philosophy.
If you can't teach your players, it's on you as a game designer, not on the players themselves.
The ideal would be a permanently available trial similar to ZZZ, because nothing beats "doing" to learn (genshin's trials are getting better, but faaaaar from good enough, and they're time limited). The next best thing is a simple to understand explanation front and center, then an opportunity to dive deeper for those who care. This way, everyone wins.
WhooooCares2026-01-19 16:10
You said that's their job, they didn't. Not being facetious, but I have never seen a complaint on a CN or JP board about kits being too complex too understand. [You can scroll 50 pages and won't see one.](https://tieba.baidu.com/f?kw=%E5%8E%9F%E7%A5%9E%E5%86%85%E9%AC%BC%E7%88%86%E6%96%99&ie=utf-8)
I'm not going to pretend that players in EN are scholars at the game.
beinginthere2026-01-19 16:24
Bro, save ur self. Don't be in the debate with some people who dont or cant even read properly.
Obvious-Childhood9102026-01-19 15:33
Everything you specified is actually important for optimization. Leaving any of those details out will lead to confusion.
Just ask any TC about the ease of calculating dps or finding optimum rotations of older characters and newer characters. Details are important.
beinginthere2026-01-19 16:13
Yeah i dont understand with this complain lol. If u really hate the texts then just forget it and go to the math tabs. As if most of u all reading every description in the game. Some people might find this detailed descriptions really helpful to determine every possible rotation and dps timing. But again 99% dont care with that so why bother with the texts.
Costyn172026-01-19 16:20
That's why I want more text to be highlighted and color coded.
So you still have the complete thing for people who need it, and people who don't just read the highlights and understand how the skill works.
With the color coding being used to see what long effect name matches with what stats.
Balownga2026-01-19 15:35
You know, this kind of explanation is typically Chinese, and/or martial art related.
They have plenty of "The hidden star go through the sky and vanquish the red oni" for "my fist in your face".
The simpler, the longer the explanation.
irihS2026-01-19 15:37
1) theres uncredited damage in the game (such as arlecchino c2) so its just future proofing that illuga wont apply to this uncredited damage
2) agree you could probably remove this, at least the first sentence, no need for scaling in this if the stats tab exists
3) the rest is just future-proofing/housekeeping to ensure that theres no potential future issues, u see this shit all the time in card games too
4) theres a huge difference between "press q to buff party geo damage" and what illuga does though (additive damage like shenhe quills)
5) naming things is good in theory but genhsin doesnt let us see names anyway so ig it doesnt matter.
Me_to_Dazai2026-01-19 15:39
Bro would not survive ZZZ's core passive descriptions or Cyrene's entire kit description lol
kokko6932026-01-19 16:09
ZZZ is still better because they have simplified and advanced explanation
Ralddy2026-01-19 16:16
or in WuWa where in a same character you can have a skill description so simple like "deals X% ATK of character like X damage" and just next skill description is like the Star Wars Text.
forestplunger2026-01-19 17:14
I die and need to be resuscitated every time I try to read a skill description in WuWa
AEsylumProductions2026-01-19 15:41
Doesn't the game now have some toggle for simplified description? Why even get mad at hoyo for leakers not providing the simplified version when hoyo does do that in the actual game?
ChaHa_alt2026-01-19 15:46
no it doesn't?
Edit: ok I see what you meant, there are some words that are clickable for more explanations, but it's still far from enough
Shad_Omega2026-01-19 15:46
i wished but no, i really hope they are working on it tho, they already added it in the imaginarium, & they technically already made simplified descriptions in test runs since natlan, so it is possible we'll see this option in the future
ChaHa_alt2026-01-19 15:42
They really should make a "simplified" explanation of character skills that you can toggle. Most players won't dive into the details anyway and will just follow guides or do random bullshit until the enemy is dead lol.
It's a problem in literally all their games, for anything they try to explain (character skills, tutorials, etc, it's always a mess).
yoyamon6662026-01-19 15:46
There should be a Razor level explanation for each kit. Like, I don't need to read a whole book just to understand Columbina's kit. Just tell me to press E -> Q at the beginning of the rotation for funny elemental reactions to happen. 😵💫
WatashiWaAme2026-01-19 15:50
It's less about the description being confusing, repetetive or redundant, and more about them resorting to such insane specifics just to limit the usage of each part of a character's kit as much as possible. They could've actually made him into a proper Lunar-Crystallize support by letting him enable the reaction, and not limiting his quills to Talent damage only (which would shorten his Burst's description by like 70%), but nope, his usage has to be limited to Zibai only and nobody else, so they have to write a novel length skill description going over every single limitation of his that will make him unplayable outside of his 1 team. At that point, might as well just say "if Illuga's party doesn't contain Zibai, he just fucking dies". That would also spare them from having to write these ridiculous skill descriptions.
beinginthere2026-01-19 16:21
Hmm, didnt u read his skill descriptions? I know many people bitching around about 4stars nokdrai cannot trigger lunar reaction. But there is no way his kits only work for Zibai lol. Zibai get the most benefit yes because she directly deal lunar crystalize but it still works for another geo dps. This lazy ass argument is like Skirk is ass without Escofy, she deals less dmg yah but not like literally unplayable lol. There are tons of great gameplay on YT that shows otherwise. Weaker, with less benefit, yes. But still works fine and well if u have hand and well invested artifacts. It is not ridiculous in any way, the description is pretty detailed and clear. Unless u hate reading. Then u just skip the text and go to the math tabs. Solved for u.

? Pretty sure this has happened many times before lol, I remember playing Yoimiya in her story quest before her banner for example back when inazuma released, it's common for characters that release in the second half if they have a quest released early
La-Roca992026-01-19 17:26
People even broke the "test" boundaries and used her against multiple bosses to calc her ingame performance
PandaBlueDance2026-01-19 16:02
Pure speculation but maybe they have to be wordy because if ambiguity in interpretation may lead to players pulling for a character that doesn't work the way they assumed, which would be problematic.
La-Roca992026-01-19 16:15
Ah, just like Raiden first beta somehow making it into the final build of the game(it didnt), and people complaining they "nerfed her compatibility with Beidou" when they just made her work with The Catch and Emblem of Severed Fate
kazuyaminegishi2026-01-19 17:14
Yes this is exactly why it is worded this way. Everything people complained about with Raiden was a direct result of player assumptions not matching reality. Most of that stemming from Raiden's burst state causing her to do Elemental Burst damage specifically.
Could they say "all damage types proc Illuga skill" sure, but then that would beg the question of what exactly is meant by that. Being precise is always more preferable to not.
The only reason to open these menues and read these descriptions is to understand exactly how these skills work. If you feel they are intuitive... why are you opening the menu to read the description anyway??
The wordy descriptions are to eliminate any ambiguity in how a character works.
Saying something like "dmg dealt by the character in their kit" is ambiguous because it can imply untagged dmg from passives gets buffed.
Cutting the additional detail about geo constructs might make it ambiguous as to when the skill checks for the presence of constructs on the field.
Lastly, specifying that the effect ends when the stacks are consumed is important because it means that he cannot regain stacks by other party members creating a new construct once the stacks are gone. Cutting this will lead to players thinking that he can regain the buff after it has hit 0 stacks.
Though there should still be a concise description toggle.
Quixotic_Seal2026-01-19 17:01
Yeah, there are still very real problems with Genshin being overly verbose in talent descriptions but these edits are terrible and the original description isn’t a particularly good example of them over complicated a simple skill.
Neospartan_1172026-01-19 17:20
This. For the first point my mind immediately goes to Geo Traveler's collapse at the end of their NA string: That's a passive, not an NA, so it should not get buffed by Illuga. And the second point let's me know that I don't need to have the constructs up before Illuga uses his Burst to get the extra stacks, so I have more flexibility in my rotation.
ILuvHuTaoAndNagatoro2026-01-20 15:44
How's this for a rewrite:
"Deal AoE Geo DMG and gain the effect of Haunted Night's Oriole Song for 20s. While active, Illuga gains 21 stacks of Nightingale's Song. When Normal/Charged/Plunging Attacks of nearby active party members deal Geo DMG to opponents, consume 1 stack of Nightingale's Song to increase DMG dealt. When Geo DMG triggers this effect it consumes multiple stacks of Nightingale's Song based on the number of enemies hit."
"If a Geo Construct created by a nearby party member is present upon casting Illuga's Elemental Burst, or one is created by a nearby party member while Haunted Night's Oriole Song is active, Illuga gains 5 stacks of Nightingale's Song for each construct, up to a maximum of 15 stacks gained this way."
BrawlX2026-01-19 16:57
Feel like I'm reading a modern Yu-Gi-Oh card.
unktrial2026-01-19 17:17
1. "So every part of the entire kit"
Geo characters have a lot of constructs that do additional damage, like Zhongli's resonating pillars or Chiori's dolls.
2. "Already in the stats tab"
The stats tab only shows numbers and doesn't explain what the numbers mean.
3. "Can straight up cut out the entire part"
If this description was not present, it would mean that Illuga would not gain Song stacks from existing Geo constructs when activating his skill.
4. "When the skill runs out, it's over"
Some stacking buffs can carry over, such as Nefer (verdant dew, lunar bloom, seeds of deceit).
Humble-Equipment-9562026-01-19 17:20
They just need two explanations like the good enough one so casuals can get the reaction generally working and then you click an advanced button to see the breakdown for min maxing
