Ahhh, I remember everyone tweaking because while that animation was in Hoyofair, it didn’t become close to the Columbina we got. Because Hoyo can’t appreciate a sick ass video without going in their own direction.
EDIT: My point was that the doomposters were annoying, I don’t mind not getting eldritch horror Columbina. I had seen some people complaining that Hoyo liked the Stairway to Heaven animation, but didn’t follow a similar route. Which is silly, they’re allowed to like a fan concept while not making it canon. They’re the ones who made the characters.

Why can't a lady be both fucked up and relatable at the same time, eh? Like, imagine she starts out casually committing murder because she doesn't understand the weight of it, and slowly she learns empathy. Would have made her make so much more sense as a foil for Durin.

Cuz from what I've seen whenever people talk about this headcanon, more people wanted her to be scary, intimidating, psychotic, murderous and have intense hatred for the Traveler. Whatnot with how people don't like how the Traveler being friendly with others (or heck, the Traveler themselves), I doubt people would recieve this well

I didn't want her to hate the traveler necessarily, but a psychotic Columbina would have been rad as hell and also fit with their previous themes of mental health awareness and empathy. Remember Thelxie? And like, Durin seems to have some degree of psychotic symptoms, going by the actual definition of the word — they're just a lot better managed than his past incarnation's.
It's not actually all that hard to nail the balance between the sympathetic and gothic horror aspects of a character, HYV just usually refuses to try.

basically just swap her role in the nod krai plot with rerir and incorporate the lore of rotwang the mad monk from the world quests
centuries ago celestia sends an angelic envoy to guide humanity, the mad monk rotwang sees it as an opportunity to further his own goals, imprisons the angel within a machine to extract her powers, and blinds her in order to corrupt her with the influence of the abyss
the remains of the angelic envoy are scattered across nod krai, her lingering hatred becomes the wild hunt that roam across the lands seeking revenge on humanity, the vessel that her undying will slowly pieced together from scattered flesh becomes the harbinger that was recruited into the fatui
throughout the archon quests what was once a vengeful fallen angel lashing out in blind rage against humanity gains a different perspective, with the help of flins/jahoda/sandrone etc gets her revenge on rotwang, but centuries of trauma and resentment can't be erased in an instant so even though the attacks of the wild hunt slowed in frequency and abyssal corruption started to recede, nod krai is still a land healing from many wounds
coincidentally enough the wild hunt perfectly matches columbina's original color scheme

It's just that going with fanon instead of their own vision is shit writing. Genshin does one thing right in that they don't go with whatever the fans want the story to be, ZZZ suffered heavily because of that as 2.x was more or less all over the place imo.
It becomes far more rewarding when fan theories align with the bits and pieces left by the writers, such as Sandrone >!actually being made in the image of Mary-ann by Alain!<, when you know that they stick to their image of the story instead of just going with whatever is popular by the players.
