I’m f2p, who should I pull for to win abyss?
I’m at the end of my rope tbh, I’m clearly doing something wrong with these teams as I haven’t been able to clear abyss, I’ve chalked it up to not having good enough artifacts but am I not using my teams correctly? I don’t understand how to fully use my teams, I just switch them out and spam their skills but if they’re built good enough I feel like this method shouldn’t fail (maybe I’m being super naive and someone can educate me in the comments, I’m willing to learn I just don’t know if it’s going to make a difference anymore)
I’m going to pull for neuvillete in the coming banner, and I’ve already gotten all the resources to fully max out his talents and level him, he’s OP I’ve heard and that seems legit, but after that I don’t quite know who to pull for as there’s quite a few new characters that’ve been released in the time I haven’t been playing, I think my two teams are enough (again, correct me if I’m wrong but abyss only seems to require two teams and I can’t think of anything else that I need to grind for to beat?) so I’ve been switching my focus to developing individual characters (Mona, Keqing, Jean) because again, the internet tells me good, but I still fail to complete abyss and the highest level difficulties of combat time-limited quests….i really just need some advice tbh

If you search google with those characters you will immediately find out that those teams have specific fan names, Alhaitham Quickbloom and Raiden national (or rational for short)
After that you can enter that phrase into youtube or google search and add "rotation" to it. Ie. "Raiden national rotation"
Look at the videos/results that come up and compare&contrast. This is the same procedure for learning anything on the internet. Find the keywords that will make your search more specific, and then do your research.
and don't get me wrong, neuvillette is not a bad character and can easily clear abyss but in the big 2026? i would suggest you go for ineffa and/or columbina (current banner), prioritize ineffa over columbina for now (if you pull for them) since if you end up pulling neuvillete, ineffa is pretty good with him and if you wanna play dendro teams... lauma is better than even c2 nahida (i personally wouldn't pull for lauma if i had nahida c2 unless i really liked lauma)
but pull who you want to use, the only characters you need are the ones want you use... since with high enough investment, most teams can clear abyss
Start rolling for NEW meta characters not old and dont fall for the above traps .you will fix your account doing that. Most your old characters and thesr teams have been powercrept out of meta dont invest more into them or any standard characters.
I don't know if you can expect to 36* the Abyss in this patch, but I'd say pulling for Ineffa would likely help since Spiral has been and will likely continue to shill Lunar reactions for the duration of this region cycle. I would consider her a higher priority than Neuvilette, baring in mind that he is still a great DPS, but he is not as excellent as he once was. Ineffa also has the benefit of being able to slot into just about any team and improve it in the process.
If you don't have Furina, look into pulling her in the future, she is still an excellent sub-DPS. Unfortunately, she ran quite recently, so it may be a while before we see her again.
Mavuika is expected to run sometime during the next couple of patches, and she is widely considered the best/strongest character in the game. I do not personally like her or her playstyle very much, but she hits like a goddamn freight train.
Aside from that, look up some rotation videos for your Alhaitham hyperbloom and Raiden national teams. It is something that you wouldn't expect changes much, but it can make a huge difference in your DPS by stacking buffs and effects effectively. There should be tons of videos/tutorials for these two teams.
To answer your question: No. I wouldn't say that most of the older cast "don't stand a chance". Instead, I'd reframe it as "most older characters will need higher investment to hold up to newer characters at lower investment". These older characters haven't been debuffed or made any worse than they were on debut, but the HP of monsters and bosses (particularly in Spiral Abyss and Stygian Onslaught) have risen considerably, and the numbers/damage output of new characters start out higher to match this. It's not strictly necessary to pull newer characters just because they are stronger, but it takes less overall investment to make these characters viable because they're already on a more even playing field.
I'm still able to use older characters effectively because I heavily invest in their talents (9/9/9 and i crown the characters i really love), their weapons (fully leveled, signature weapon or next non-sig BiS), their artifacts (constantly farming and strongboxing until I have near perfect pieces, farming entirely new sets when applicable), having them fully ascended/leveled out of 90, and really learning and understanding their team rotations. When it really comes down to it, I also swap/upgrade teammates as new characters are released. Not necessarily 5 stars either, there are some pretty rad 4 stars that have come out in the past two years.
Meanwhile, my newer units sit pretty at 8/8/8, many of them are on R1 4 star weapons, are only leveled to 80 (though i do ascend every 5 star to 80/90), and don't have optimal artifacts. Most of them are stronger than any of the old units i described above.
I'm not saying you need to go this hard to make old characters usable, I probably do overkill a bit, but generally it will take more effort to make these characters hit as hard as the new ones. In some cases they just. Can't. My hyperinvested Alhaitham team can not hold a candle to my casually invested Varessa team. It sucks, and I'm sure it's at least partially intentional by Hoyo to make us feel like we need to constantly be wishing for the newest units, but it should at least be possible to still 36 star abyss. It will just take some time and effort and perhaps some reevaluation of your current characters
Also unless u have Durin and Ineffa u should prolly save ur primos and skip Neuv
1. Character Investment Build (Artifacts/Stats/Weapons/Talents/Levels)
2. Your Own personal skill driving these characters (Rotation)
3. Your own Knowledge of the enemy's mechanics (Resistances, weakness and specific mechanics)
For 1. Check sites like KQM and Akasha to see how to build your characters correctly (KQM) and how they compare to other characters (Akasha). There's also stuff like GenshinOptimizer if you wanna go the extra mile. For example, for your raiden, you want the correct artifact set (Emblem) with high amounts of Energy recharge and a good Crit Ratio (1:2 CR/CD)
For 2. Search YouTube for your team's optimal rotation, for example, for your Raiden team, it should be something like: Raiden E, Bennet EQ, Xaingling EQ, Xingqiu QEE, Raiden Q, then Raiden Normal attacks and charged attacks
For 3. its probably the hardest since the info changed every abyss cycle, but for example, for this abyss cycle, it's recommended to use electro charge/Lunar charge for the second side while the first side can be brute forced with a high DPS team. i recommend you check IWTL Gaming abyss guide they are not the best but they are easy enough to understand to get yourself 36*
Your raiden team is extremely high energy, as it should be, but spamming doesnt work with such teams. Im not very versed with raiden but she has certain more complicated win conditions. Have a look at some razor language guides on how to play her, nahida, yelan and alhaitham.
