Which version was genshin the most enjoyable and was at it's peak for you?
I remember I started at the final week of version 1.2 and I was so confused seeing the event page empty. So technically I fully started my journey from 1.3. My first 5* was also xiao who I got in 4 pulls on his banner.
For me the game was most enjoyable during version 1.6. I had a lot of fun in the first summer event and met a lot of interesting people too. Unfortunately they don't play anymore. The game was definitely at its peak during that time for me. Inazuma was also coming out next month then.
I started feeling a bit burned out from sumeru. But I was still able to enjoy the quests and do all the grinding. The new dendro element also made it a interesting too.
From 4.x I kind of started speed running the dialogues because I would just want it to be over lol. I would just log in and do my comms and log off. But iirc I would still make time to finish all the quests and collect the occult.
Then natlan came out where I went ia after finishing the archon quests. The game just felt boring to me after that. Not to mention the lack of voice actors. I unlocked a lot of quests but still haven't completed anyone of them.
I came back for nod krai and it's good but I still don't feel that enjoyability which I felt before. I remember changing the travelers elements too to fit in the region where the quest is taking place which I stopped doing for a long time. At this point my only interest is just how the story advances. The last time I felt fun like I did in the early days was doing chiori's quest. I loved her character and personality. But after that I lost my interest again. Maybe snezhnaya might make me interested again like the early days who knows.

Natlan was the region that really got me to slow down and enjoy the game and explore the world, so I'd say Natlan by default but i adore Sumeru and Fontaine too
Overall Genshin quests are a double egged sword in my opinion. They frequently reference older quests, including character story quests. This is great for long term players who have completed them, but for newer players it can be frustrating. When I started in 4.2 and as I was making my way through Mondstadt and Liyue there were multiple event quests that referenced older quests that I hadn't gotten to yet. It was extra frustrating when the recommended quests had prerequisites of their own. Some of those were character story quests, with the prerequisite of a different character story quests, with a prerequisite of an archon quest I hadn't gotten to yet. Those aren't needed to do the event quests so it doesn't hinder you at all, but after actually getting to a point where I actually finished all the recommended quests before starting an event quest? It does make the quest more enjoyable, so it's frustrating that for my first handful of event quests I didn't have those references and many characters I met for the first time in an event before getting to them in the main story which was a bit confusing sometimes, especially when Paimon would do a reference to their quest or do an inside joke.
Going back through some of those early regions i get the nostalgia of seeing it for the first time but not the enjoyment of exploring it because i didn't and i wish i could get that feeling.
Natlan and Nod Krai have been a blessing
Now Hoyo, NK compass for old regions pretty please?
The AQs, the WQs, and specially the exploratiom was enjoyable. I think Its the first nation since inazuma that i really try to fully explore it
As for the fondest memories i have of the game: version 2.8 was the fucking best.
The story isn't as epic as nod krai.
But the war against the abyss, the dialogue during the boss fight (especially paimon's words) made it feel like a grand finale for the adventure.
The exploration and character kits of natlan are also my favourite due to how nearly every character natlan or otherwise had some form of movement which gives them purpose outside of just being used for combat, especially since I love exploration just as much as fighting.
His story seems pretty clear cut, he got what we wanted and he is for the most part happy to have fulfilled his mission. I rather not take that away from him and just commit to it.
Version 4.x was still okay since the AQ was alright and events and content still felt good, though the emptiness of Bayda Harbor was the prelude to my future disappointment in Genshin...
Plot: Fontaine
Update maps (the maps in subsequent patches): Inazuma
I will say that the main plots for all of the main regions is pretty good. I only think Inazuma suffers a bit because the latter half felt really rushed for whatever reason.
Makes me wish they'd do more stories by going back to these ares. Some of them hold relevence today lore wise. It's a shame they are a one and done area.
Map/exploration? Fontaine
Game balance wise? Sumeru
Though to be fair, experiencing the beginning of the game was also very peak.
2. Fontaine
3. Sumeru
4. Natlan
5. Inazuma
6. Mondstadt
7. Liyue
I'm hoping we get hyperborea in 6.x
and if you ask me which one is my favorite it will be the 3.4 with the dirge of bilqis world quest and the eternal oasis
I started in 3.0 so experiencing Genshin for the first time during that era was magical to me. But Fontaine was also great, I remember waiting for a new entry in the Narzissenkreuz questline every patch because I was so invested!
I’ll cheat and say:
1) At the beginning was the best in terms of overall feelings and how new and unique and fun everything was starting from scratch. It was such a joy to log in and just explore more, I couldn’t wait to play more and more.
2) Right now the current version is great for all of the quality of life stuff they have added. So the gameplay and high end content and rewards are much better now.
Edit: and now with nod krai I’m getting that old feeling back of really getting excited for story quests and exploration
Storywise: previously Fontaine but i am now preferring Nod Krai more
4.2 is probably the 2nd best, with its peak AQ, decent SQ, peak WQs and very good map expansion with some major lore and a very solid main event.
If anything i wish they stuck inazuma last before snezhaya rather than 3rd, theyd do so much better with it now.
3.0 to 3.2: Nilou debut and Sumeru Archon quest.
4.0: Navia debut and the first two Fontaine Archon quests. These two quests were the peak of Fontaine.
4.8: Simulanka. My favorite summer area and Nilou got an outfit and an event story!
Honorable mentions
2.0: Similar to 1.6, brand new area but I didn't really like Inazuma that much. Yoimiya was introduced but I didn't think much about her in the beginning (she's top 3 now).
Early 5.x: New character kits were cool though the story and character designs were hit or miss. Nahida's birthday event should've been permanent.
6.x Liking this story and cast so far. Still haven't done the latest Archon quest though
And came back with 6.1
Though I'll never forget the pre-Dragonspine days with the boys.
I still love the game, but I really disliked several of the directions taken during Natlan. I didn't like being forced to use the exploration mechanics, the massive power creep, the number of bosses that need you to bring pretty specific units to defeat, and the utter lack of 5 star men. Nod Krai at least seems to be a backtrack toward more male units and easier exploration terrain, so I like those developments at least.
But Natlan have the best puzzles not overly complicated and most fun world quest too.
The Inazuma world quest was TORTURE
DRAGON SPINE TORTURE
Liyue region I love it's my og fave region besides Natlan.
And Sumeru was BORING AF AND PAIN I couldn't care less being stuck in that loop was torture.
Fontaine is THE WORST EVER THAT DANG PRISON MADE ME WANT TO QUIT THE GAME BUT I PUSHED THROUGH
Haven't progressed to Nod Krai yet I hope it's as fun and vibrant as Natlan otherwise It will feel the same too me 🥲😭
I mean genshin is fantasy game it's supposed to feel beautiful I mean all regions are beautiful.
But Natlan stood out to me as the most vibrant color pallete and beautiful region with cute saurians and the colors pop more.
Now it's just a funny exploration game with occasional small bursts of interest in funny little lore. I played only 1 QA from Nod Krai and don't feel like starting another soon.
Snezhnaya won't keep you interested because you are already burnt out and the game is already too big to not forget things and fill the gaps in lore. It's not an ideal story-telling model, it doesn't work on me, seems like it doesn't really work on you either, and I am truly fascinated how it can work on anyone at all and people still care.
World Quest: Fontaine.
Exploration: Natlan.
Under my view, I knew the developers already before Genshin. I played GGZ and HI3 heavily and was my first gacha game on mobile. When Genshin was teased, I was up all on it. Coming from someone who deeply loved playing Breath of the Wild, Genshin was something I very much look forward to.
To this day, I am and will always be playing Genshin until they shut it down or world ends or something. I never truly get burnt out of it. It has its' moments of ups and downs, but will forever be the best "f2p" game for me.
In my opinion, either Sumeru or Fontaine was at its' peak in terms of storytelling. Inazuma was the region I look forward to the most and they did fairly good other than the story.
Dragonspine was also a fairly niche area despite it coming out much early on and introduces characters like Albedo and a little bit more lore about Durin and alchemy.
Although, each regions has its' own charm, as of now, Nod-Krai is considered peak and the best at the moment, and I agree with that. To the region, the art, the music and the storytelling, it felt similar to Fontaine or Sumeru peakness again, which was good considering Natlan was just alright overall.
