F2P returning after 2 years (since 3.8/3.9) – need advice on DPS pull choice

So I returned to Genshin after \~2 years (last played around 3.8/3.9) and I’m currently playing through the Fontaine Archon Quests.

I’m mostly set on pulling Columbina, so that part is locked in.

Now my dilemma:

I also like Neuvillette, but as an F2P, I obviously can’t pull everyone. I already own Hu Tao, but I want to build a fresh, strong team from scratch rather than relying only on her.

So my question is:

• Should I pull Neuvillette as my main DPS?

• Or should I wait for another DPS who might pair better long-term with Columbina?

If you think I should wait, please suggest:

• Which DPS character to wait for

• A basic team comp for that DPS (F2P-friendly if possible)

I’m a bit out of touch with the current meta, so advice from up-to-date players would really help.

If you want to make the most out of Columbina you want lunar reaction related characters. Given that you don't have any of the 6.x characters your best bet is Zi Bai who is in the 2nd half of 6.3 however she also really wants Illuga at min C2 but ideally C6. (Lucikly Illuga will be on her banner but obv no guarantees with 4\* characters)

So your team would be something like: Zi Bai+Bina+llluga+Geo Flex(Zhongli,Gorou etc)

From my observation and understanding, the two current biggest powerhouses that are capable of brute-forcing almost everything are Mavuika and Skirk.

However, I don't have these two, so my understanding of them might be limited.

As far as I can see, Mavuika is more forgiving without her best/premium comps, while Skirk is a bit restrictive. To optimize Skirk, she has to be in a freeze comp, and having Escoffier is not a must, but highly recommended. Mavuika however, can run more variation of team comps. Her best team would be with Xilonen, Bennet, and Citlali, but she can make do with other substitutes.

The thing is... do you have to get them? Well, I don't have them, and I still can clear both Spiral Abyss and Imaginarium Theater just fine. While older DPSes have significantly fallen back compared to the newer ones, they still can be made viable if they're well built enough.

As for who you should pull? I really can't say anything because I feel that the decision is ultimately yours.

Columbina is elevating lunar damage DPSes, so I'd say you can consider getting Flins. I'm not really suggesting Nefer, because her damage falls too much without Lauma. Arlecchino is a good pick too, I prefer playing her than Mavuika.

That's all I know so far.

Neuvillette is nearing the end of his lifespan, meta-wise

Don't get me wrong, he's still a strong character and his kit(hydro lol) is flexible enough that you can still make use of him if you have him, but he's not a pillar that you should build around with a new account

You'll get much better results with Zibai or one of the other lunar carries, especially since you're locked in on columbina
