I think i figured out what Paimon is. (6.3 AQ Spoilers)
P A I M O N is who sends us system mails, all uppercase like an abbreviation.

She is our ships AI, she guides us though space.
Mamere tells us that Paimon has strings that go above the sky, at that point we thought she might be a moon goddess, but we now know that is not true.
But our ship is also beyond the sky on the moon.

It does raise further questions about why everything about her design matches Celestia's architecture though...
The ship then sends those planets back to a "mothership" that contains the genetic vault. i mean you dont place something that important on the scout ship.
That mothership/colony ship is Celestia, whos AI is the Primordial one.
The twins' ship has been flying around for thousands of years, and the long timeframe, genetic vault, and the mention that they risk the "destruction" catching up with them if they don't find a suitable world implies that the twins are all that's left of their civilization.
So Celestia and the Heavenly Principles most likely also came from the ship. Perhaps HP is (most of) the ship's AI, with Paimon being a fragment/module it discarded (["idea association module" is the term used, basically implied to be the ship computer's "emotions/heart"](https://genshin-impact.fandom.com/wiki/As_Heaven_and_Earth_Are_Made_Anew)).
Also that would also explain why we didnt get nailed after both fontain/natlan and the dottore fight.
We where there so protecting us probably took priority, basically an Admin overwrite.
The Paimon we know could still be the discarded module, would explain how the HP/Paimon moved the ship to the moon.
Its also possible the HP wakes up at regular intervalls for short periods of time and is inactive most of the time.
PHANES and PAIMON
Phanes disembarking first with the abyss sibling and the genetic vault during the first pass over teyvat
I was under the impression that the person I replied to was talking about a muuuch older Genshin theory that Project ARK in HI3rd was *directly* tied to Genshin Impact. That theory went beyond mere expies and suggested that the Twins of Genshin might've been part of Project ARK from HI3rd. But that was weakened when Griseo's story was introduced, and then finally put to rest with the reveal of HI3rd's Project ARK having never left the solar system.
At the end of the day, Project ARK was named for the biblical Noah's Ark, and that biblical story is about a vessel carrying life to repopulate the world after a cataclysm. From what I've seen, a lot of current theories about the Twins' spaceship imply a similar story there. So it's likely a form of the "ark" story trope, but it doesn't have to be directly (or even indirectly) tied to the Project ARK story from HI3rd.
Traveller: Call me grandad, Dottore, because you're descended from my Genetic data bank!
...I was initially writing this all up to provide a potential counterpoint, but now having written that out I suppose you could see it as supporting information for the theory that the Travellers' original civilization is the root of Teyvat's. One could actually quite solidly argue that in researching the Travellers' civilization's technology the Hyperboreans just re-discovered a known genetic manipulation trick, and that the explanation for the Travellers' ability to freely wield elemental power is that as descendants (/designer babies) of the mother civilization their genetics had already been modified accordingly from the outset.
And as the sustainer of heavenly principles say: "Outlander, your journey ends here" could mean there's no need for further traveler as teyvat can be inhabited by the twins now that HP transformed ecosystem etc everything.
(This is my mixup logic from watching many yt analysis and reading comments)
Unless there are more than 7 nails?
**Yohualtecuhtin, Lord of the Night:** Humanity is truly remarkable. Even the gods in the heavens hold you to be special. Even now, you stand before me, dazzling like the sun.
So far, the Angels at the very least seem to be for the Heavenly Principles in general and says that they hold humanity as special.
Columbina said the Moon Goddesses and Angels were always close as well, but I find it interesting that their views on the Heavenly Principles are pretty different.
meanwhile the ones who are against HP the most have been shown to be the msot unreliable narrators. koitar eloping with voyager and starting the rebellion, kaherin;ah in general, sonnet who was corrupted by abyss, frostmoon scions who were practicing gene experimenetation....
there's a lot of diff perspectives and bias from different sides.
We haven’t even seen the Heavenly Principles’ side yet, only from those that either support or disagree with them. I can’t wait to finally have the full picture when we go to Celestia.
Also, in CN characters card, both Lumine and Aether cards are signed by K.K. (believed to be Kevin Kaslana), reforcing the connection between Project ARK and the twins.
Phanes is the original ship's AI, that went to Teyvat a few thousand years back to terraform the planet for the Twins. But due to circumstances it has to split itself into 2, Phanes and Paimon. As for what circumstances that is, I have a theory.
When Asmoday caught us, she probably realised she fucked up and went to Phanes for a discussion. Since Phanes was badly damaged due to controlling the Catacalysm, it probably has an idea that would help both Teyvat and us, the Player. This is probably when Phanes split up into 2 and went to sleep. Paimon has been with us since day 1 to help guide us. Also, assuming that Asmoday never told anyone, it could be possible that this plan left the other Shades in the dark. So Asmoday is probably helping us behind the scenes. To awaken HP Paimon would need to go back to Celestia and re-combine with Phanes.
If you read the new skin's lore, it shows that the ship AI is really really attached to the Twins, similarly to how Paimon is attached to us.
Also, people have said that Paimon incorporates design elements from all 4 shades instead of just Asmoday. It would make a lot more sense if Paimon was HP instead of being Asmoday.
*Playable medium/tall Paimon when?*

> If you read the new skin's lore, it shows that the ship AI is really really attached to the Twins, similarly to how Paimon is attached to us.
Yep. And that bit about its "idea association module" (aka its emotion module, probably what became Paimon) definitely fits with this.

> It would make a lot more sense if Paimon was HP instead of being Asmoday.
Absolutely yes. I've never really understood the Asmoday theory, Paimon has basically zero in common with her. Paimon is absolutely part of (etc) Celestia, quite possible HP themselves in Guoba form or similar, that would make perfect sense... but not Asmoday.
Also, we have seen the Asmoday portal before during A Space and Time for You. If Paimon was chibified Asmoday, it makes zero sense as to why she could access her former power. It only makes sense if Asmoday is still normal-sized, just protecting Traveller and Paimon behind the scenes
Ronova, the Shade of Death, was originally the weapon and defense system. Naberius, the Shade of Life, the life support system and DNA incubation system. Istaroth, the Shade of Time, the stasis system. Asmoday, the Shade of Space, the warp and navigation system. With the Heavenly Principles the overall management AI running things.
This would also explain why the Shades cannot act directly against the HP and must find loopholes (Ronova by making bets she loses and finding technicalities in orders, Istaroth by acting through her children, and Naberius by fusing with Rhinedottir), because they cannot resist admin override.
Paimon then could still be (part of) Asmoday as the navigational system, while also originally being part of the original AI (as all Shades were).
I like how the devs tend to hide important lore drops and reveal them later in the AQ for everyone who missed it, it allows all the lore fans to still theorzie and make vids about it and still make sure the casuals will get it later.
Aru hiseki made a video 4 days ago talking about the acronym and the theory as well.
The devs knew what they were doing if everyone is making the same conclusions.

And multiple people probably already had similar theories before me too. Paimon mail thing has been a topic since the game's release.
It feels like we're being put on a treadmill to slowly assimilate and "level up" in Teyvat until our body and mind is ready to inherit full admin powers like some VR isekai.
(I'm well behind the current AQs, so I'm not entirely sure what's up with the twin most recently.)
> But the golden-haired heir was used as a vessel by which unlimited Abyssal power could be absorbed, and (she/he) became the key to the world's near-annihilation.
> This was the moment that their *[twin and Dainsleif]* paths intertwined — one a noble, tumbling from the light into the Abyss, the other a humble existence, climbing upward from the darkness.
But her saying that depends on the number of version updates released, not the main character readiness for the world. If I was to start the game right now, I would be able to go to more places without Paimon stopping me, while those areas being too high level for me
If paimon was a spaceship AI then wouldn't she be unaffected by it like the traveler?
The only counterargument I can think of is that we know humans came *with* the HP, not that the HP came and then created humans to inhabit Teyvat. Which then creates another question in why the HP brought humans to Teyvat. What were they running from? The Abyss? Their star exploded?
This games has a lot of parallels with Honkai Impact 3rd: look-alike characters, same mythos, and it's confirmed both games exist in the same "universe" (like MCU, for Marvel Cinematic Universe).
In Honkai Impact, there are those "ELFs", which are Artificial Intelligence with a fairy-like appearance. Exactly like Paimon.
In all seriousness, I honestly think Paimon is just "Na'vi", from Legend of Zelda. They wanted a fairy friend to the blonde main character, and instead of making a glowing bulb with wings, they used the concept art of ELFs from Honkai Impact, and we got a "chibi Kiana Kaslana" as guide.
Given Genshin came off the heels of HI:3, it's not crazy to think that was the concept and it's only coming to light now, even if it's an alternate universe of similar events
This would line up with HP being cold and logical (Reason) and Paimon being the emotional part.
This theory would match with the other theories of Paimon being part of the Heavenly Principles.
It would explain why they are so attached to the traveler and why they are guiding them just like they guided the spaceship through the stars.
"Oriented" could instead be "Optimized" or "Operations"
But from my own speculation, Paimon will be the new HP since the current Phanes is probably almost certainly dead or powered-down due to handling the Catacalysm. We know that HP basically created the role of Archons to govern the material govern in their stead.
>!always has been!<
> The planet they passed was never a destination, since its star had already entered its twilight.
> Its biosphere and atmosphere had been utterly destroyed. The surface held nothing but cooled masses of molten rock.
> A supernova had caused the devastation.
> For several weeks or months, intense heat and light had marked the star's final brilliance. After that, it had been reduced to a cold, dim dwarf.
> It ran a quick calculation on when the event had occurred...
> What a coincidence. The radiation trapped in the planet's crust indicated that the supernova had erupted the very year the twins were born.
> Naturally, the two events had nothing to do with each other.
> No one would ever celebrate their birth by burying an entire world with it. Such levels of extravagance and cruelty simply did not exist.
From little things like the Dawn Winery sign being in English (fancy alternate alphabet, but English all the same) to some of the stuff (can't remember exactly and I'm not there yet) in the Sumeru desert ruins also being specifically in English, etc.
As an Asmoday is Paimon believer, i assumed Asmoday got chibified because she became a threat to the twins during the prologue. Though this hinges on the fact that nobody knows who/what the twins really are. (Twins being the "heirs" of Teyvay, and Ship AI obviously very protective of them)
Yeah, im salty and coping Ronova never acknowledged us during Natlan lmao.
HP/Ship AI hasnt told the shades about the twins BECAUSE the twins were never meant to live in Teyvat this early. (Abyss twin got summoned, Traveler crash landed)
The Pioneer/Personal Artifical Intelligence *for* Mission Operations *and* Navigation.
Attention, spoilers.
Something that I noticed was that Genshin's underlying theme seems to be that Teyvat is fated to be destroyed? I can't quite grasp if "fate" is a power belonging to HP, or is it an universal "fate"? If it's the latter, does that mean there is an almighty power that created and governs the universe, which includes multiple worlds and even the Abyss?
Regarding Paimon herself, is there any evidence so far that she is part of HP? Or it's also possible she is a separate entity? Assuming she had always been a creation of the Twins, that is.
At this point, I'm all in on the Heavenly Principles being our ship's AI that sought to make Teyvat habitable (since the word means 'ark' after all), and Paimon is the part of the ship's AI governing emotion etc. Amidst life, death, time and space, why is 'reason' amongst them? 'Emotion' as a parallel to 'reason' would make so much sense.
It also means that Hoyo has once again done a "yes, but": we were led to believe Paimon has some connection to Celestia, *but not in the way we could have thought possible* until now.
Goddamn this is exciting to think about.
(Ashikai mentioned this is a video a few years back)
Lore guy agrees with you.
Highly recommended to watch this video. It just makes too much sense.
The description of the outfit basically revealed the purpose and goal of our journey. I highly recommend to read that description first before watching that video. It really is too fun and engaging. Reads like the beginning of a pure science fiction story. They should have made it a mandatory read for everyone, they are crazy for not doing that: https://genshin-impact.fandom.com/wiki/As_Heaven_and_Earth_Are_Made_Anew#Description
