Ex-Genshin player looking to get back into playing
I used to play Genshin almost daily from 2020 until 2022. I stopped playing because that feeling it had at the start disappeared completely when Sumeru released, and playing started to feel more like a chore.
I tried to come back last year when the new Albedo story quest released, but when I opened up the game I had so much to do and all my teams were severely outdated. That kinda took away my motivation to play again.
Now that Columbina dropped, I kinda wanna play again, but I feel like I'll just open up the game, just to close it back up and uninstall it once more bc of how much I have to catch up on.
I'm just looking for more opinions, especially of older genshin players. Is the game worth picking back up? Has the vibe and feeling that Genshin had at the very start returned, even if just a little?

As you are behind in terms of build, you need to get rid of the mentality of trying to catch up, as that will burn you out faster than anything. For me I enjoy playing the story and exploration, so I just focus on those. I didn't touch things like abyss, stygian or IT until much later when I felt more comfortable in playing the game again.
However if you care just about combat/meta - can't say anything about it since I personally don't care about it at all.
Nod krai changed dramatically with quality and it not only feels immersive but the interactions, exploration etc feel fun again.
I had a blast exploring the new area so that speaks for itself
Also, now is definitely a good time to come back. Lantern rite is coming, and the current strongest DPS is just around the corner.
Too much informations, my team is too outdated and out-meta, and some players will say "you can play the game with any character" - yeah, but the game will be fun with like 5 to 10 of the entire character list before they are nerfed to push everyone to pull for fresh new and broken chars.
And I don't even talk about weapons, or sets (clearly the worst mechanic of the game)
I think I'll uninstall in like 2 days, then I'll install WuWa, play it for a week or two and then uninstall it too until next time (in 1 year or 2)
The game has a ton of content that is entirely free to play and you can play at whatever pace you like. There’s no “Catching up.” You’re just playing the game and the story that comes with it. If that doesn’t interest you, then you have your answer. I started in 5.2 and the game is amazing.
You wouldn’t say that you need to “catch up” on a movie you’ve never seen, right? You just watch it when you’re ready.
I would stay away if you feel you need to catch up because that will only lead to burnout again + you have to want to play even if your a bit overwhelmed at first
Quests barrage is a real problem for new/returning players. Honestly, idk what the solution is.
I can only give my opinion as regularly active player that the game is worthwhile to continue to play.
For returning players, OTOH, can't say much.
