If it does happen, there are some people that sell replacement services for the ps5 controllers. I had my sticks swapped out with hall effect sticks for about 30ish bucks after shipping and taxes. So there is an option if things go south.
Ancienda2026-01-21 04:27
how does that work? do you send them the controller and they do it for you or do they send you the parts and you do it yourself?
latenite3042026-01-21 04:37
Yeah, you send your controller in and they replace the sticks and send it back. I'd do some research first, but I found a pretty reputable one that reddit recommended.
silversoul0072026-01-21 07:10
Thanks for the heads-up! I never knew Hall Effect sticks are a thing until you mentioned it.
I do have some controllers to rotate usage to. In the event that this Genshin controller drifts, I do hope it just needs some dislodging of stuck dust or cleaning with contact cleaners. Those I can do by myself!
issm2026-01-21 04:16
On a completely serious note, stick drift is a physical inevitability on potentiometer sticks.
That analog stick technology relies on 2 pieces of metal rubbing along each other. Metal rubbing on metal means it'll wear away over time, and that's what causes stick drift.
You might get lucky with sticks that take longer to start drifting, but it will ***always*** happen.
Which is why, on that note, F Sony. And Microsoft. There are better technologies available. They aren't even expensive.
For the price of an official first party controller for either console, I could buy a Hall Effect controller *and* a TMR controller - both of which offer superior performance to a potentiometer, and are fundamentally immune to stick drift.
Instead of actually competing with third party manufacturers and offering actually better products, what do they do? They lock down their consoles so that only approved first party peripherals work.
At least you can still mod the controllers with sticks that don't suck.
JUSTpleaseSTOP2026-01-21 05:51
What are you people doing to your PS5 controllers lol. I've had my two controllers since a year after launch, play regularly, and have 0 drift. Are you all throwing your controllers or something?
issm2026-01-21 06:09
This isn't a matter of how you treat your controllers.
While yes, how you treat and use your controllers will influence how long it takes for the controller to start drifting, stick drift will ***ALWAYS*** happen to a potentiometer joystick. It is a physically predetermined result of how the sticks work.
The stock sticks work by having a moving electrical contact (on the stick) slide against a static contact (in the stick's housing), and the position the moving contact is along the stationary contact changes the resistance through the circuit. The controller measures that resistance to determine the position of the stick.
When you have 2 contacts rubbing against each other, they *will* wear each other down, and when when they wear down (or corrode, or get dirty), that changes their electrical properties, which changes the measurement the circuit takes, which is what causes stick drift.
You might personally have usage or environmental conditions that apply less wear to the controller, but it's still wearing down. It *will* drift eventually.
JUSTpleaseSTOP2026-01-21 06:21
I mean yes they will drift eventually, but if they're drifting after a few months it's user error.
issm2026-01-21 09:46
[iFixit went and did an analysis of the PS5's sticks, including looking at the manufacturer's spec sheet](https://www.ifixit.com/News/48944/heres-why-ps5-joysticks-drift-and-why-theyll-only-get-worse)
The manufacturer of the potentiometer module claims 2,000,000 cycles endurance.
One of iFixit's staff tested how often they moved the stick while playing CoD, and came back with ~100 rotations per minute.
For that guy, at 2 hours of CoD per day, the spec of the sticks says it's only good for 4-7 months.
Failure after a few months isn't user error, it's literally predictable based on the manufacturer specifications of the part.
silversoul0072026-01-21 06:13
I had all of my controllers experience drifting, but thankfully they were an easy fix. They either required cleaning their potentiometers, or dust getting on the potentiometers.
Iihatepineapplepizza2026-01-21 07:10
Well damn I wish I was lucky like you then 😭 I stored my controllers in proper places, cleaned my hands before using them, avoiding eating around them, dusted them often, tried not to overuse them, and yet they still ended up drifting after 3 months of use (one is a controller that came with my PS5, and the other is one I got post launch). Meanwhile my 5+ year old Switch pro controllers are in pristine condition despite constant use and shitty handling I guess I got the sickly victorian child edition controllers
paradox_valestein2026-01-21 06:37
Can't they start moving to Hal sticks already? Or a magnetic one like the new steam controller?
issm2026-01-21 10:01
I'd love a Steam controller, except that my current controller doesn't seem to be anywhere near dying, and it uses a PS layout instead of the Xbox layout I'm used to.
Ok-Durian-93482026-01-21 07:36
Wait does ps5 controllers not have hall effects?? Why???
issm2026-01-21 09:47
Nope. All of Sony's official controllers use potentiometers. Including the $200 Dualsense edge.
If you want Halls or TMRs, you're going to have to get them modded.
In fact, there isn't a single first party controller for any console that uses anything other than potentiometers.
Xbox allows a couple of "authorized" third parties, who offer Hall Effect/TMR controllers, Switch allows third party controllers in general, but PS is shit outta luck. Mods or keep giving Sony money.
It's barely a conspiracy theory that they're deliberately using crappy sticks so that people will have to buy new controllers from them sooner.
SlumDawgy2026-01-21 04:04
I wish you and your new sticks the best of luck.
SanicHegehag2026-01-21 04:05
Already?
I didn't think they'd arrive until February.
HuTaosTwinTails2026-01-21 04:25
Wait how? I ordered from PlayStation and amazon and they both say it doesn't come out until February
silversoul0072026-01-21 04:26
The release date where I am (Japan) at is today.
HuTaosTwinTails2026-01-21 04:30
Damn that's lucky!
kokko6932026-01-21 09:55
Make sense
Enjoy
Xiao-Kerain2026-01-21 04:29
how much?
silversoul0072026-01-21 07:30
Where I am at, it is about 80 usd.
furinaphile2026-01-21 04:34
Wow this is really pretty! I wish windows 10 had better support for PlayStation controllers, it would be really cool to get this!
issm2026-01-21 04:59
There are companies that do custom controllers.
It's more expensive, and it'll take longer, but then again, you'd be getting a unique commission instead of a mass produced shell.
i.e.: https://skinpixel.co.uk/
That company is UK based, but I'm sure you can find one closer to you.
furinaphile2026-01-21 05:11
Really cool that you can just order a front plate. Maybe I’ll look into something like that. Thanks for sharing!
semir3212026-01-21 06:53
DS4Windows fully supports dualsense
vinuvinuvinuvinu2026-01-21 04:35
So beautiful that I could buy and simply never use but as a decoration 😭🙏
LousySmarchWeather072026-01-21 09:39
Good news! It'll be decoration after a year of use when the stick that controls the camera starts drifting and you can never change your party.
Wurzelrenner2026-01-22 02:04
It is always the other stick for me. Your characters move by themselves now! Who doesn't like that?
Worldly-Broccoli-5272026-01-21 04:39
WOOOWW I WANT IT TOO :'(
MrCovell2026-01-21 04:40
I bought one and it should be here in the next month or so! It was also my first “Official” themed PlayStation controller. Hyped for it but not for the inevitable stick drift in a half a year.
RampagingElks2026-01-21 08:21
How 'bad' are they for this? My PS4 controller is still going strong without any drift, but all the rubber has worn off the joysticks.
jenioeoeoe2026-01-21 09:16
I have had my PS5 controller since 2021 and it has no issues. But I have heard from others who developed stick drift really fast. Probably also depends on how you treat it
looking_at_memes_2026-01-21 16:53
>Probably also depends on how you treat it
I had treated mine pretty well I'd say but I still got stick drift within months
LousySmarchWeather072026-01-21 09:44
I've been through four since 2021. Buy a new one, get it replaced under warranty in a year, repeat.
AmbitiousClassroom182026-01-22 21:58
Same. My original ps4 controller rubbers are worn but haven't gotten any drifting. Same with my ps5 controller. My switch on the other hand is drifting hard core 💀
RampagingElks2026-01-22 22:22
I feel lucky my Pokemon SH/SW switch lite doesn't have any drift!! I've read they are notorious for that - maybe the lite not so much since the controller is integrated? I know I had to get my friend a joystick repair kit (?) for Christmas heh
AmbitiousClassroom182026-01-24 00:24
I've got the oled and read there's been many issues with drift also. Nintendo just sent new controllers when received drift controllers. I recently got a wired controller, so hoping that won't go drifting to 🙃. Would like to enjoy my switch again 😭
XaeiIsareth2026-01-21 09:46
Can’t you change out the joystick base?
ezio452026-01-21 14:18
Crazy how they haven't switched to Hall Effect joysticks for first party controllers. Third party companies sell them for pretty cheap nowadays.
ZeroNatal2026-01-21 04:54
Wow nice! I'm excited to get mine at the end of February! It looks really good. It is going to replace my spiderman one that I carry with me in my bag
hachitsune2026-01-21 05:41
This reminded me to check my own preorder lol. Looks so good!
If you in US for this link. Otherwise just go to ps direct in own country and look for it
jinxedandcursed2026-01-21 06:01
How's the design on it? Does it feel like it'll rub off?
silversoul0072026-01-21 06:15
I honestly have no idea. This is my first dualsense to have such a design since my other ones only had color variation (black and chroma pearl).
Aesthetic-wise, it's way more beautiful than I expected.
SwordBlind2026-01-21 06:50
Is it just me, or is anyone else's Amazon order for it stuck in "Order received"?
highonnakuweed2026-01-21 06:56
Pretty!
Omnibobbia2026-01-21 06:57
Beautiful
TurtleDiaz2026-01-21 07:01
Its beautiful. Im ordering mine next paycheck
Strong_Banana_7902026-01-21 07:05
Wow that’s gorgeous
taibo12082026-01-21 07:08
im in singapore and i have also received it today!
silversoul0072026-01-21 07:16
Nice!
I actually held out playing the latest Archon Quest until I got this controller 😅
Livid_Dimension_67392026-01-21 07:14
It looks even prettier on a close up. The design and colours are very minimalist and yet look so elegant.
I haven’t bought any skinned version before. How long do such models officially stay in production before they are discontinued. Any idea ?
silversoul0072026-01-21 07:29
Sorry, I do not have an idea how long they stay in the market. If I were to guess, initial stocks might depend on a number of factors such as the game's popularity and maybe to some extent, the number of pre-orders. I resolved to get one as soon as possible because Genshin is quite big here in Japan.
The only reason I can think of that can lead to early discontinuation is that the Genshin playerbase is fewest on the PS5 (but one can argue that the Dualsense can also be used for PC and Mobile).
RampagingElks2026-01-21 08:19
oooh pretty. I should get one, since my PS4 controller is getting grody, and I only use it for genshin, anyway. might as well level up.
Nice, love Genshin so when I get my controller I’ll only ever use the controller when playing Genshin
genshin_impact-2026-01-21 08:38
Im extremely jealous. Where i am it wont come out until mid Feb iirc
ohaiibuzzle2026-01-21 09:27
At the risk of making on opinion on the Internet, I think while the front is beautiful, whoever designed the Genshin logo on the back needs to get checked.
silversoul0072026-01-21 09:27
I think it is not bad, but it could have been way better.
XaeiIsareth2026-01-21 09:48
Idk why they didn’t just use … the actual Genshin logo
Wurzelrenner2026-01-22 02:02
same, it looks very bad, but at least it is the back so I won't really see it often.
mrpunman2026-01-21 10:28
I also got mine today!
NoTrollGaming2026-01-21 11:14
Looks great but I can’t use any other controller other than the DualSense edge
Thick-Plant65732026-01-21 17:32
Ahh, finally in your hands! Time to dive in and enjoy every moment.
lostn2026-01-21 22:43
it looks nice. Will you use it or keep it in pristine condition as a collector's item?
Sad to say, if you use it, these things won't last long. And because it's limited, getting a replacement will be difficult.
silversoul0072026-01-22 00:04
I will use it since I have four controllers. I cycle thru each of them every time a controller gets to low battery.
Outrageous_Tennis_532026-01-22 08:03
How much was it with delivery?
silversoul0072026-01-22 08:03
I did not have to pay for the shipping.
Appropriate_Hand20462026-01-22 09:47
Bring on the skins!!! I would like a complimentary novelette skin you're welcome and thank you😁😁😁😁🥰🥰🥰
KymeStar2026-01-22 10:09
collab was done really tastefully
Z304LEGEND2026-01-23 20:39
Lol dude its a normal controller with a little extra on it. The crap we waste our money on, then you wonder why a gacha company that has already made a boat load still mostly cares about whales lol, I mean up to 90 wishes for a character for a 50% chance, a 80 or 70 wishes for a weapon with a 50% chance WITH loosing thay llt guarantee when the weapons change alone says it. But hate me
Z304LEGEND2026-01-23 20:40
Top it.off I can make this XD I can easily in grave these Simple art design on a controller. They didn't even en bother to makr a couple characters putting great details into them, like nilou would of been perfect here.
