People complained about the big chunk of empty land that was added with Petrichor, but most assumed that the devs had a limit on how much loot they could add during the patch and wanted to put the bulk of it into Petrichor and the Sea of Bygone Eras.
It's true, though, that if the devs plan on seriously altering the landscape, they'd keep the area clear of treasure so that no one would complain about missing out on the loot before it sunk into the ocean or whatever.

Personally I'd rather a formed but empty land than invisible barriers and the map fog or whatever.
I mean it'd be great if there was content on those areas, but again, I'd prefer it feel like an actual world, thus finished areas, even if empty.
ConciseSpy850672026-01-22 11:27
Personally, I don’t
Big open holes and map fog may be really jarring, but if there were these massive holes in the middle of the map then the devs would go in and fix it, making the area interesting with Chests and plants, NPCs etc, but with this formed landmass, we don’t have that insurance, how do we know they won’t just leave it completely empty?
Ambitious_Jello2026-01-23 12:46
Bruh. Paimon is the AI that terraformed the world. When she says to explore that area later it's because she hasn't made that area yet. It's integrated in the story
parnubay2026-01-21 22:47
I feel like they could've still thrown some mobs or travelling NPCs sporadically in there. They have moved NPCs before like Viktor moving from the Mondstadt church to Sumeru. Or even use that area for limited time events where they change the scenery like they did for the Mikawa Flower Festival.
Scaramala2026-01-22 22:01
Underwater Khaerin'ah, I would like to explore that shit
donpastera2026-01-21 15:14
Does that line up with the door to the empty landscape?
CreepyGuardian032026-01-21 15:54
The dot does line up with the map.
I think if they made Khaenri'ah at that location without a subspace, like Enkanomiya or the Chasm there would be a hallway before you reach Khaenri'ah like in Enkanomiya.
donpastera2026-01-21 16:15
that would be interesting honestly
azahel4522026-01-21 16:19
>there would be a hallway before you reach Khaenri'ah
That's what I think too, there's likely some huge pathway between that door and the city proper.
Khoakuma2026-01-21 16:27
Yep it’s like that massive “Empty” area in Elden Ring that unlocks after you defeat Starscourge Radahn.
ThatCreepyBaer2026-01-22 08:51
Well Nokron actually has content on top of it though, the Weeping Peninsula. In Genshin both the "underground" and surface areas are empty.

People have pointed this out back when the "empty lot" was first added to the game.
People then speculated that Khaenri'ah might "surface" one day, and that this might be the reason they're keeping this area empty (because otherwise they'll have to clean it up later down the line).
So you know... After Shneznaya's completed, this is a thing that might (or might not) happen. Who knows at this point in time?

I thought this was going to be a Saddam Hussein’s hiding spot joke at first.
OpaqusOpaqus2026-01-21 23:55
You're never gonna believe this,
spacestarsandskylee2026-01-21 23:55
My personal theory is that celestial will fall right there where the water is, then that will break into khaenri'ah underneath

What's more interesting is that in one of the past patches (3.x?), they actually changed some of desert terrain in the empty area. It's probably to accommodate something in the future.
