Just how does one play the Imaginarium Theater anyway? It's interface is clunky and unorganized.
As an AR-56/WL-8 player, I find the Spiral Abyss and Stygian, fairly easy to navigate and play at this point, but Imaginaruim Theater looks very unintuitive, clunky and unorganised. Ever since AR-40, I've been going in there every now and then, picking a few trial characters, doing a couple of battles, and getting out, but I don't know what I'm doing in the interface...

Each character can only be used twice, and after each battle you get to invite one new character. Beat all rounds to clear. (4 to 12 rounds, depending on difficulty)
Between each battle you get to choose between 4 options. On the left is going to the next battle (sometimes with multiple choice on which enemy you want), which gives +flowers. On the right are inviting characters, buying buffs and random events, which all cost varying amounts of of flowers.
You click the book, you go in.
You then "prep for performance" - Choose the difficulty, it shows you exactly how that is going to affect the performance at this screen. Then theres a tab (that looks more or less exactly like the abyss and stygian) where you select your character pool (It even shows you how much you have of what element and role at this moment).
You can also see the "map" of the performance where you can check which boss needs what types of characters at what point of the performance, to inform your prep.
Then finish picking everyone, you go in, and there are four BIG options tight in the middle of the screen where you select whether to fight the next fight, or spend the resource you gain from the fights to improve your initial team with buffs, new characters, or random events.
When you select one of them, it shows you explicitly and succinctly what the challenge you selected is going to be, and what characters "are good" there.
Even the reaction buffs are *shockingly* pretty self-explainatory for a Hoyo game. "Do a certain reaction - get the extra benefit!".
The only problem I personally have with the whole interface is: I would put the "map" (or a smaller version of it) on the bottom of the screen where the big choices for the current selectable events are - so that you don't need to go into the other tab to look at the upcoming fights and then go back every time.
