Idk about the shock value death part, I quite enjoyed the most recent story quest personally. But even I have to admit that Nathan was a drop in quality compared to fontaine
youarenotthatguybruh2026-01-22 12:32
No it wasnt , stop keeping Fontain on the pedestal , it wasnt all that . You all make it seem like from start to finish was peak , when 1-4 acts were pain to go through
Eldervine2026-01-22 12:43
The Fortress of Meropide part was tedious af, but other than that Fontaine _was_ peak. Whereas Natlan's character writing let it down big time.
youarenotthatguybruh2026-01-22 12:46
Act 1 and 2 were mid at best and 4 was forgettable
“Natlan writing went down” , please tell me why
Because Natlan fixed many of the Fontain problems
And if your nitpick is act 5 not being all drama and shit , well that because was different not bad
Eldervine2026-01-22 12:48
I literally specified the character writing. If I have to explain the difference between good and not-good character writing, you need more help than reddit
youarenotthatguybruh2026-01-22 12:52
“Characters writing”
Translation > “this character didn’t break in tears and explained their feelings but expect me to pay attention to the story and what is going on in the screen”
Eldervine2026-01-22 12:55
You failed high school literature class didn'tcha

Elaborate you college professore, please enlighten us about what a good writing is

Natlan had many underutilized characters that felt like one offs because they tried to introduce too many seperate groups at the same time. Kachina and mualani are relevant for the tournament section and then that was kinda it... chasca was relevant for the chuchu arc and thats it... and then for the rest of natlan it focused on mavuika citlali and xilonen (who while I do like xilonen and citlali it was a massive disappointment that the other characters just sorta stopped being relevant)
Even in the fight vs the abyss while the characters come back most of what they do is off screen. Which I dont understand how you can have a 10+ hour quest and still have to tell the player that their allies did stuff off screen lol.
Say what you want about Fontaine, while I didn't think it was perfect (and tbh some parts were really mid like the fortress) Imo they at least used all the characters well and kept characters relevant up until the end.
youarenotthatguybruh2026-01-22 13:44
Wrio , Arlecchino, Clorinde , Sigewinne barely had any presence in the story , the double standards are insane , what about fremine and Linette , did they had some utility, they were all side of the side characters
Fontain had Furina , neuvillette and navia , all the other sidelined like crazy
Ariane2172026-01-22 12:43
*Thank* you. I like Fontaine, I do, but hearing *everywhere* that it's like, the ultimate pinnacle of this game is so annoying. It had great highs and REALLY bad lows, but it feels like no one ever mentions the bad lows.
Being so real, Fontaines finale is what carries the *whole* questline. If the finale wasn't what it was, people would probably rate Fontaine about as good as Inazuma, in my opinion, which I liked.
EDIT: and before anyone gets on my ass, I *love* Fontaine and its story. It's not my favorite (3rd place overall, behind Natlan and then Nod Krai), but it's great. It just *isn't* what so many people hype it up to be, especially since most of the time, they only hype it up by putting other archon quests down, and that's not what we should be doing at all.
Pharoahofvortex2026-01-22 13:32
Nah I agree with u its not the ultimate pinnacle lol, I personally liked sumeru and inazuma more but if we're being honest Fontaine was still better than natlan IMHO. People seem to be misinterpreting my comment for being a Fontaine glazer but there were really bad parts of the Fontaine story. Its just that I like the characters better and I enjoyed the exploration more (no drowning is so goated)
MapoTofuMan2026-01-22 12:46
Somehow the very last part of a 5-act story made everyone see the whole thing as peak fiction, but for me it was the opposite...so much of it was a slog to get through that even the finale, as good as it was, didn't hit as hard as it should have. I just wasn't nearly as invested as I was in the Nod-Krai cast.
youarenotthatguybruh2026-01-22 12:48
Act 5 was 1 hour of go back and forth with trial that honestly completely breaks the mood
The only good part was a 20 min section , that to me doesnt cover 8+ hours of slop , but thats just me
Fontaine had more writing problems that actually Natlan fixed , but people just try to delete from their memories like scara from the Irminsul
Pharoahofvortex2026-01-22 13:29
I never said that but ok, for me the high parts of Fontaine (act 5 and exploration wise as well as character design) were much more enjoyable compared to the highs of natlan (false sky reveal, etc.) Whereas my opinion is also that Nathan's lows were lower than Fontaines. I won't say Fontaine is perfect, in fact far from it, exploration wise inazuma was my favorite region and even then inazuma had hell of a lot of problems story wise.
You act like I believe that Fontaine was the best thing ever when thats far from the case. I liked Fontaine for the exploration and parts of the story and I thought it was better than natlans exploration and characters. Thats just my opinion and u can be mad if u dont like it but from my perspective thats the case.
ThatRanMan2026-01-22 12:32
Natlan had some really amazing high points like the False Sky reveal and the Abyss War chapter as a whole. While it wasn’t my favorite region by any means, it had merit when it got things right.
Pharoahofvortex2026-01-22 13:25
I agree there were moments but you can't judge one or 2 good things without also looking at the 1 or 2 bad things. Imo the bad parts of Natlan were more defining for the region than the good things (mainly because they happened first compared to the good parts)
Dramatic_Opening40192026-01-22 12:37
Nod krai was definitely a bit better than natlan, but it's still nowhere near sumeru and fontaine. Natlan is basically when they realized "why bother trying our best to write a good story when people will eat up anything, anyway." They know their audience, that's all.
__mymelody2026-01-22 12:39
I don't love Natlan but >!Capitano's!< death wasn't shock value at all if that's what they mean by "another". We already knew a death was going to happen and it felt obvious that they weren't actually going to make the >!archon die!<. And there was sufficient reason for it to happen. >!Signora's!< is the only one really because it was completely unexpected and a bit unnecessary
awwgateaux012026-01-22 12:43
I don't think thats what POV means.
Also, that middle comment implicitly assumes that all materials with random shock value death is always a negative thing that worthless stories do.

He's right tho. She'll be brought back in a few months, it's already confirmed she's playable.
Alternative-Neck-9752026-01-22 13:00
For me she annoyed me but I also knew she would be playable later so her death didn't do anything except make me like Dottore more. 🤣 I say just don't let other downers get to you or your game.
Plus-Theme-32832026-01-22 17:34
And people say why genshin don't kill characters
Lakiel032026-01-22 20:15
How this mean he dont pay attention ? Not because someone doesn't have the same opinion as you, that it means they don't pay attention to the story.
