I’m tired of people acting like the other fatui are good people, especially compared to Dottore.
(I say all this as a Fatui fan)
None of the fatui harbingers are good people. Not Arlecchino, not Capitano, not Sandrone (despite what Paimon says) None of them.
I see so many people denouncing Dottore because of his actions, hating him and wishing him death because of what he’s done and in the same breath praising Arlecchino and talking about how much they love her.
I’m not saying you can’t dislike Dottore and like a different harbinger, but at least be consistent with your values.
Arlecchino grooms children (not sexualy) and makes them into child soldiers. She may care about the children, but that doesn’t make what she does good.
Sandrone tried to take the Frostmoon scions land and sacred artifacts.
Scaramouche is a mass-murderer and tried to commit a genocide.
Childe would have happily destroyed all of Liyue in an attempt to draw out Rex Lapis.
Even the ‘righteous’ Capitano isn’t a good person. He may have his own moral code and honour, but he stands idly by while his colleagues commit heinous crimes. He doesn’t care what they do as long as the outcome is favourable. Standing by when you could help is almost as bad as doing it yourself imo.
Pantalone is rich and therefore has no soul. He’s undoubtedly got hands covered in blood and does work with Dottore.
Pulcinella is a politician.
Pierro manipulated Dottore who was likely a minor at the time, very unstable mentally, and just wandering the desert alone into joining the Fatui.
He also played a part in Scaramouche joining the Fatui. I’m sure there’s plenty other things we don’t know about. Also he literally leads the Fatui which is obviously not a righteous organisation.
As for Columbina, she’s mostly guilty of the same things as Capitano: not trying to prevent her fellow harbingers from ruining people’s lives.
It’s not about who is a better person. it’s about who your favourite war criminal is.

And Dottore fans like you need to accept that if y'all wanted a villain so much, you gotta live with the fact most players would despise him. Isn't this what a villain is supposed to make people feel? Otherwise they would've been written as a hero.
Y'all also need to stop listing the other Fatui sins to try to make Dottore in better light, it doesn't work in this propaganda of desperation because y'all don't like how people dislike Dottore.
Dottore is *the* villain. He's good at it. Y'all should be happy to have your wishes granted after * checks notes * Fatui fans cried for years how they weren't villain villain.
Mfw most folks don’t find the child torturer/murderer who caused unspeakable pain and suffering on innocent people for his own gains likable. Who could’ve seen this coming ?
Exactly this. At this point in time, if you're *actually* playing genshin, you would have realized by now the descent of the traveler from knowing who is black from white to dealing and associating with people in different shades of black. This isn't abrupt, the traveler didn't trust arle because she's a waifu or he's gullible. He trusted arle's desire to save her children( even if thry were her own child soldiers) same with capitano, he trusted his hate for ronova more than capitano's desire to get the gnosis.
Everyone loves dottore...as *THE* villain. His monologue and tirade in the AQ only makes *sense* if you take his word at face value and don't do any nuance which is impossible unless you are practically brain dead. For everyone else sane, hes a raving lunatic who has a god complex and will do everything to achieve his goals regardless of how many bodies he stacked for the dake of his "research".
I like them because they ARE villains and add depth to the story but I don't condone what they do of course. Also we don't really know Pantelone and Pierro that well so it's hard to say what they're guilty of exactly completely but I'm sure we will know in the meantime once we get to Snez.
btw I'm not sure if you excluded Scaramouche/Wanderer on purpose bc he erased himself from Irumansul lol
also my favorite is Capitano!
Also Capitano is cool af
I mean, we all draw the line differently bc of our different personal backrounds.......
I'm not really saying it because I disagree, I whole heartly agree, I hates when people were acting like Alrechino Is Saint during Fontaine.
>Arlecchino grooms children (not sexualy) and makes them into child soldiers. She may care about the children, but that doesn’t make what she does good.
That's being too charitable.
In the quest where they tried to leave, the children themselves explicitly did not find it out of character for her to kill them. **They fully believed she would.** That alone tells you how her “care” is understood by those raised under her authority.
As if raising children to be literal terrorists who go on dangerous missions that involve horrific rights violations isn't bad enough.
>same things as Capitano: not trying to prevent her fellow harbingers from ruining people’s lives.
Capitano is guilty of far worse than simple inaction. His first proper appearance in the story was him staging a violent coup against Mavuika, the Archon and ruler of Natlan, and he was ready to get everyone in Natlan killed for his plans.
He was ready to commit the same horrific acts of mass harm that his colleagues typically do, don't be mistaken about this. The only reason he didn't is because Mavuika beat him.
Not to mention that he is from Khaenri’ah, a nation that, if you’re unfamiliar, was engaged in things like this:
>“It was originally known as ‘Chaos Permeation,’ a minor spell developed by Khaenri’ah’s Universitas Magistrorum, **made to mock Teyvat’s wielders of elemental power.** Users could use Abyssal energy to evoke effects similar to the Elements. The principle was akin to using the Abyss to permeate reality, creating negative pressure to call upon corresponding Elemental energy.
>**To Khaenri’ah, ‘Chaos Permeation’ was a mere party trick employed in performances and parades.**”
-- Skirk's character Profile -- The Seven-Shifting Serpent -- Friendship Level 6
Open, unapologetic xenophobia is certainly a choice, *I guess*.
This wasn’t secret, restricted knowledge or the pet project of an elite minority. The text makes it clear that this attitude was public, normalized, and socially endorsed. In other words, it reflects a majority cultural outlook within Khaenri’ah.
And if you think that's a one off thing, think again. This sort of hostile thinking and view of the outside world was very prevalent in Khaenri'ah.
But I suppose sprinkling in a few grandiose lines about “*honor*” is meant to distract from how performative he really is at his core. As well as from the inconvenient fact that his nation was actively preparing to annihilate everyone outside its in-group:
>“The ‘Ruin’ part of the name comes from the areas where they are most active. However, Ruin machines actually have little in common with the detritus in which they are often found. In the ancient past, these ruins were once part of a civilization mighty enough to almost touch the dome of the firmament, while ‘ruin’ still waits in the deep places of the earth, **awaiting the order to arise and tread all kingdoms underfoot.**”
-- Chaos Oculus Description -- Mob Loot
That’s not the language of a people just “trying to live.” That’s expansionist, militant, and openly contemptuous of everyone outside their group. To your average person from Kharnir'ah, the outside world was something to subdue and eliminate.
And if that's not direct enough for you, it is made plenty explicit here:
>An old component obtained from defeating a Primal Construct.
>It is said that these machines are different from those **ruin machines** that come from deep within the desert, **for they were not made as heralds of destruction or conquest**.
-- Turbid Prism Description -- Mob Loot
Capitano's track record goes far back longer than just his presence in the fatui, he was suspect then, and he still is now.
>Childe would have happily destroyed all of Liyue in an attempt to draw out Rex Lapis.
I am pretty sure he was all giddy and smiling in the cut-scene as well lol.
Even if people want to retort with "He knew Rex Lapis would have stopped him", *yeah*, Here's the thing: Planting bombs around a city and expecting the police to disarm them does not make someone a good person.
TL;DR: There is nothing *good* or even *morally grey* about members of a terrorist organization willing to commit mass slaughter.
“Moral greyness” refers to genuine no-win scenarios. Situations where every available option causes harm in some form or results in compromising on some important principal or right. That is not what is happening here. The alternative is very simple: do not harm innocent people who are just perfectly living their lives because you felt like it.
Waking up the crack of dawn, to go terrorize random innocent cabbage farmers is no way, shape or form, morally grey.
They're just plain old evil. And *evil* is not limited to overly theatrical displays of malice and sadism, this is not a Disney movie. Evil is more often that not, very ordinary, very mundane, banal even.
Dottore, in comparison to the others, has killed countless of his comrades, experimented on children, essentially mind-controlled other people, manipulated people - not out of concern for them, but out of purely selfish ambitions. It's difficult not to see such a clear difference in motivation.
