What do you think of Genshin making proper damage testing only available through miliastra after over 5 years?
Why are game designers or management unwilling to implement it in the game?
Now the seemingly minor addition to Miliastra became one of the important QoL and combat milestones of Genshin, not only test dummy maps are ones of the most played, it also makes possible user made combat maps/raids/challenges designed for your own characters that could trump Hoyo's combat events. Miliastra test dummy is valuable not just for the numbers but to track the reactions and damage per team member or element, which otherwise requires recording every number on a video, which is often impossible with overlapping reactions.
Even before this update was announced, seeing how seriously Hoyo takes social media marketing, I thought that maybe they wanted to keep some uncertainty for more speculation and debating on social media. But with complexity of attack/skill cancels, reactions and different boss and character gimmicks, those videos and discussions will exist regardless of easily accessible test dummy, so I'm not sure why was it finally made possible now.

A lot of people hate this take though because it implies that they have been doing something fundamentally wrong all this time.
Just gave my Navia an spin, 108K with 59% of the dps been hers
Flins is at 124K
16K damage is far from "big gap"
Now if it were between Chasca 80K~ and Flins 124K, then I would agree
Btw Flins team is 150k and nefer 160k
Both wheelchair(Ineffa-Columbina-Xilonen-Navia) and Standard(Mavuika-Bennett-Xilonen-Navia) reach 108K
Xilonen is C0R1, Mavuika is C0R1, Bennet is C6, Ineffa is C0 with CQ and Columbina is C0 with Prototype
And sure, Flins and Nefer reach 140 and 150K. But mine doesnt, and thats all that matters
Just play the old, non-shilled character for 3 minutes vs the new shiny unit in any endgame content, and you'll instantly know
CN has had the WeChat app(YSHelper) for years so their meta players there have had some idea of what their DPS has been for a while.
The amount of people participating in endgame is already low. The amount of people playing optimally to even reach their possible damage ceiling for their own characters is even lower.
You'd be hard-pressed to find an average player who even has a clue about the damage formula OR how the elemental system actually works in its entirety. I doubt even half this sub knows the ins and outs of elemental application and the players here are already far from average because they're actively participating in online discussions about the game.
The devs SHOULD prioritise the content that the majority of their audience actually engages in, namely the story, exploration and events.
That said, there's also the money factor. You know there's people who play like shit and will pay for sigs and cons to get higher numbers to get through the endgame to "prove" that they're "good at the game". If the devs just gave them the tools to see how shit they are in real-time, then they might try to improve and realize that they in fact don't have to pay more money, just to reach DPS numbers that they could've reached already with a bit of practice.
And devs are going to get a lot of UGC out of this update, new type of content they don't have to do anything extra for. Regardless of what people here are saying, using your characters both in lobbies and various miliastra maps is bringing more people into it.
Simple example. The starting screen is still WHITE . Is changing a color that hard? Will it mess up with the entire game's code? Lol
Just because you can only think in simplistic ways, doesn't meant that seemingly irrelevant details were designed that way. This is why a lot of QoL gets ignored, because that's not what it is, players don't understand the nuances of design properly as you are proving.
I will praise them for Capturing Radiance, that was a good change that should be in all of their games
Anyway, who cares about who is right or wrong, they are making money, it is all that matters, rest is irrelevant
With MW they get access to cheap UGC that would address the specific needs of the community. So they will delegate this kind of thing to that.
Majority of players will pull a character once they made that decision to save for them regardless if the character turns out as trash.
if people already made that in MW
we are never getting some official thing anymore
no reason to
