Narratively speaking, how are they gonna introduce new Natlan Characters?
Unlike anyone else from other nations, prior to the events of Natlan's Archon Quest, Natlanese don't leave Natlan. So Hoyo can't use the usual 'Not Around' reason that they pull for others (like Mizuki or Escoffier).
And considering that everyone fought in the war against the Abyss, and that the Traveler toured all the tribes, closely-knit family-like establishments, rather intimately under the guidance of friends, it's a little difficult for Vision Holders to pass under the Traveler's radar without a good explanation.
So how are they going to add any new Natlan characters?

Commentaires
Do it Hoyo.
“I was busy fighting in the war, you never saw me”
but yeah combined with what the other comment pointed out on visions being rare, 100 is completely reasonable for inazuma
There was some Cryo Vision user at the stadium, and a few other NPCs with Visions. So it's not too hard to say some random volleyball player with a Hydro Vision and a pet koholosaur is just chilling out down south someplace.
It's most visible in quests, because characters say how they go to some ruins nobody entered for centuries, and it's in the middle of everything, settlement nearby, camp on the other side etc. It's meant to be more remote location lore-wise, when barely anyone visits.
Gretel will be the same as well I bet, never met her despite Mondstadt being on a smaller side.
So do new Natlan characters, they just weren’t narrative priorities yet.
As I said, Mika never even mentioned Lohen much less of his Fifth Company, during his debut back 3.5 (Hell, We even know Seamus' and Frederica's whereabouts before Lohen was mentioned.) it was only last patch that he decides to mentioned it.
Lohen wasn’t narratively relevant back then.
All we really did in Natlan was fight and party lol
That's their entire culture, yes.
• a younger Natlanese girl/boy from the Masters of the Night Wind (maybe with the same model type as Kachina, or maybe a young boy with Cyno's model type) who was trained as an artist under Citlali, and would have magic based around painting just like their respective tribe
• their outfit is based on traditional clothing from one of the several ethnic groups from Indonesia (perhaps a cyan and purple kemben or sarong adorned with batik inspired patterns), based on how the tribe's ost heavily features gamelan, itself based on how Indonesia is very volcanically active just like most of Natlan
• if it's a girl, her name is Intan, meaning diamond; if it's a boy, his name is Lintang, meaning star
‘X past hero inspired me and I got my vision recently as part of my efforts in the war’
Or one obvious one as the games on… (and I wouldn’t be shocked if other nations do this too later’
Sovereign reborn into a new human form
“ I was there, just we didn’t talk”
and all the other characters having a oh yeah that person dialogue like they always existed
In both story and shown in game many of natlan's NPCs have visions and we don't even know their names.
So an extra four star Scion of the canopy will slot right in.
Besides that, there is the possibility of younger warriors, akin to Kachina, rising up.
And I do think the "we just haven't run into them yet" excuse works still. I mean, we only met Ifa in person well after the AQ ended and the only reason we knew about him before is Ororon's flashback. Varesa was similar. It's not inconceivable that another character pops up.
For a Natlanese character that left before Gosoythoth was dealt with, they either don't believe in Mavuika's plan or believe the answer to Natlan's problem can only be found elsewhere.
A rising star would share similarities with the more inexperienced characters we have on the roster.
And lastly someone we somehow never met would have the greatest flexibility in terms of personality, perhaps a touch low-key, since if they're not we would have heard of them.
Dahlia was in Mondstadt the whole time we were there.
Gaming and Yun-jin were in Liyue while we were there.
Sethos was in Sumeru while we were there, iirc.
Some characters, we don't even meet at any point while we're in the nation even though they're released during that nation's patch cycle (*cough*, Emilie)
As we know - they can't go out of Natlan... No one said anything bout others going in: it's how trade was conducted in Natlan before they were able to leave
A family who came in Natlan, settled or saw something there and brought their family together to make a home there... Before attacks intensified and they had to leave and be outside of Natlan for a while... Except for a few members who still considered it as their home
You don't need to be born in a nation to consider it your home, or to love it and be in its service: such an angle being explored is something very very cool that they should do
This way we can get a new character who's not in Natlan at all, but yet is a natlanese all the same
Instead, they'll have Khaenri'an Energy, because they picked up the soul of Capitano's comrade or something.
They can also just make a "oh yeah i got my vision like a month ago" story why not.
Plus despite all the close-knitness Ifa still isn't featured on this art
People think that the traveler being a mega superstar would meet everyone easily, when the country is fucking huge. I can't even meet all my coworkers in the same office as me.
Your comment kind of applies to any nation, unless you think it’s normal for someone to meet every single person from a country. The number of NPCs is limited due to technical constraints of the game, each nation has as many inhabitants as HoYo wants it to have.
Reasonably, even if she spent a year behind bars, she could have been convicted and served it after we ended up there.
*"Oh yeah, we haven't met because I was in prison on drug charges."* is jokes
She was literally living with Cloud Retainer during the AQ and we just never see her until the interlude in 2.4
Poorly. 😭
They fall into the tree that takes them to mysterious monkey land with the tribe of the apes and heres our new character “Kobatine”
anthony
That or some other character from another region just shows up to Natlan and counts as a Natlan character. Like Thoma being born in Mondstatd but living in Inazuma thus still counting as an Inazuma character
Lone wolf/vagilant type characters who didn't want to follow Mavuika's strategy. Or perhaps acted on their own to protect the less populated parts of Natlan that didn't have strategic value in the war but was in danger never the less. Or perhaps they were just assigned to those locations to protect people where the main Natlan forces aren't at.
Perhaps a Natlanese character outside of Natlan either with or without the Wayob's potection. Maybe not having the potection manifests itself in different ways to different people and for this character, it is an extreme lack of sense of direction. So they were trying to find their way back the whole time, but kept getting lost and since no one else was really entering or leaving Natlan, they couldn't get back until now since the connection was re-established. Or maybe they were one if the few granted special permission to leave inorder to search for a solution that may lie in the other nations.
Maybe they are a new warrior who was training to be the next generation of heroes but never got their debut before we stopped the war.
Or a seasoned fighter who suffered injuries in the war prior to our visit and wasn't able to participate until they recovered. (Perhaps with our help)
Maybe they were trapped by the abyss in so sort of stasis trap, cave in, or some abyssal subspace and was persumed dead until we stumble upon the trap.
Or Capitano, coming back as the avatar of the Lord of the Night now that they fused.
You just have to say they were there the entire time.
Here's an example; Escoffier was introduced in 5.6, well after the Fontaine saga ended. No need to excuse her lack of appearances in Fontaine, just introduce her as a chef from Fontaine, and you're done.
What about Natlan? SAME. Here's mr. bob mc.bob the bobbiest bobby, he's a glazier, he made the glasses everyone in Teyvat is wearing, he's been busy in his shop, and he helped the ... Scions of the canopy? People of the springs? I don't know, he's from one of them, but we're just now introduced to him.
Or how about Mizuki Yumemizuki, from Inazuma? She's been there, we're just introduced to her in 5.4, but we swear, she's an Inazuma youkai, she was just in Natlan, that's all.
Well, here's Dylan mcDylan, the dylanest dylan to ever dylan, he's... a... bicycle enthusiast from Natlan, he's just off doing his own thing, he was there, we're just now introducing him
Now, change Kinich to a new character we don't know yet about and you got your answer.
Natlan will probably get more new characters then Inazuma will
“I was busy defending my Tribe”
no, it's incredibly easy, they do it all the time.
yaoyao has been around since 1.0, but we simply never met her until 3.4
there were multiple times where the traveler and alice were in mondstadt at the same time, but simply didn't run into each other
dahlia is part of the church of favonius, same as barbara and rosaria, and he's been around since rosaria was introduced. but we just didn't run into him until 5.6.
itto and kuki were mentioned in inazuma since 2.0, but we just didn't run into itto until 2.4 and we didn't run into kuki until 2.7. kuki is especially the strange one considering she's in the arataki gang, but wasn't introduced together with itto. she just wasn't around during itto's story quest.
so literally all they gotta do is say "they were around during the war, we just didn't meet them until now". or they could pull an escoffier and just say the character was holed up inside.
We've already had several events with Natlan characters outside their nation, I keep up to date so I don't know if they're locked or how they explain it but clearly they don't give much of a damn at this point.
I have no clue how she appeared in genshin
INHALE DAT COPIUM SON
'A arraignment with one of the shades and a contracted seelie, yes we did that too. '
'This region has just reconnected to the outside world '
another fictional tale world (or digital dragon sovereign world) with 'Fictional' Characters capable of exploring out into Teyvat
We just never saw them
All Hoyo has to say is that the particular character was not around wherever the Traveler was at any given time.
"Ok sure"
Any future playable characters will simply be individuals that we didn't meet personally during our time there.
"I broke my legs the week before the war broke out, and had to spend the whole time convalescing."
"Mauvika and I are the only people who know how to allocate supplies without accidentally starving a whole tribe, so whenever she decides to get punch-happy, I'm stuck doing paperwork."
"I was busy throwing boulders back up the mountain."
"Sorry, I haven't had a visitor in six months. What happened with the sky turning purple a while ago?"
"I got my Vision in the middle of that invasion."
"The Lord of the Night needed me to constantly pray to them to keep them going for long enough for you to do your thing."
"Remember me? Nepecha? You helped Xilonen save me!"
"I tried leaving Natlan, and immediately got trapped in a cave for a whole month. What rotten luck, huh?"
Writers can make up pretty much any reason they want, especially if a character is released alongside a new sub-region with its own lore.
E.g. a hidden ancient tribe within the natlan sea has secretly been defended for centuries, staying out of the war and hiding from both the abyss and the rest of natlan (including the archons) using ley line tricks, protecting an artefact of great power with controlling phlogiston.
SoC character can easily say that they were delivering messages during the war. PoS some other excuses.
Easy
Beyonce was here in my country, I knew she was here , she met a lot of Thai people but I didn't get to meet her. Someday I might lmao 🤣
‘Oh I was fighting in the war you didn’t see me’
‘Oh I recently remembered I’m farm Natlan I’ve been outside of it since you’ve been there’s
‘Oh I’m a painter and I only paint in caves you likely just didn’t see me’
They can just sorta make up a reason.
✓ Historical figures like Xbalanque
✓ A saurian that somehow got a human form
✓ Dragonkind/Ajaw related
✓ Someone who didn't really fight on-screen like Varesa
Maybe the chieftains could get a glow up, they're not too average npc-like
