i don't see anyone talking about this so i decided to post after reaching this point in the archon quest. hoyo has given us subtle hints before but this is prolly the largest we've received till now. based on the conversation we can finally assume the travelers are infact millions of years old.

You've seen nothing yet! 😂 Not picking a fight btw, simply excited for you.

It's debatable whether the time spend asleep in suspended animation really counts in terms of "age".
Even discounting that, though, we know that the Twins live for a very long time, given that the Abyss Twin has been awake and active as part of the Abyss Order for five hundred years, and neither twin seems to consider that to be particularly a significant statistic.
Whether their lifespans are measured in thousands or millions or billions of years is a matter of debate.

And we STILL can't drink alcohol at Mondstadt's tavern!
RoyaleAbsol2026-01-22 20:38
I genuinely don't get why they're still so particular about that. Literally why can't/won't the Traveller drink alcohol? Is there really anyone out there who thinks the Travellers are underage? It's not like it's a bad influence for the community either since a shit tin of characters have been already seek drinking alcohol (hell, alcohol is even embedded in Mondstadt's culture).
So what's the deal there?
Neospanner2026-01-22 21:30
I mean, the Traveler doesn't really seem to be offended by it, or may any effort to correct the mistake. I think the Traveler simply isn't a fan of alcohol.
There are plenty of IRL adults who dislike alcohol.
Matthew2902026-01-23 02:01
I kinda like the ongoing instances/joke of every time there's a story with drinking/alcoholic begerages you sort of assume traveler would join in and get alcohol only to be given fruit juice/non alcoholic variant and they just kinda go along with it because whatever. Even with the most recent meeting point cutscene with Varka with the cider, Varka and Traveler give cheers and then they're like "oh... cider?".
but also what Neospanner said, perhaps Traveler isn't a fan / doesn't care to correct people that they're well over drinking age.
perhaps hoyo also don't want a MC who enjoys alcohol cause it's not a good look to have for younger audiences playing Genshin.
i really fancy a pina colada now tho.
Drayachyika2026-01-23 08:36
Hmm, it could be because of Chinese regulations or something related. But I'm not familiar on that subject, but that would be my guess

I kind of disagree. Traveler's just invoking the possibility of Dottore fucking it up. Maybe they can live millions of years, but they haven't lived millions of years, not yet.
Wyrmaster192026-01-22 20:29
This. The Traveler is saying that dottore has been a god for like 45 minutes and to be care full with messing with time / the perception of time; while also calling out dottore for not really treating them as an equal / possible collaborator. Dottore going off about time and empathy afterwards is his usual condescension and a bit of omnipotence enhanced adhd
ItzYuzuru2026-01-23 05:51
i understand that but lemme ask you a question. can imagine living a day, or a month, or a year? that much is easy enough as you've already lived for multiple years by now but let's imagine living several hundreds or thousands of years. it gets increasingly difficult and near impossible to imagine living anything close to the 100,000 years mark. i might just be speculating here but the sole fact that the traveler talked in millions rather than thousands is enough of an indication to assume they've been awake (not in stasis) for that much long or longer.
throwway852352026-01-23 05:58
Figure of speech exists. We use big numbers without understanding its scale all the time. "I can watch this movie or listen to that song a trillion times without getting bored".
I just take "millions of years" as "You barely have any control over your power. You could have fucked this up big time."
TheVoid0002026-01-22 18:29
If the theory are true. Then we are as old as Nibelung himself. The space ship first visist Teyvat probably during Nibelung Era, and only sometimes later does it return to Teyvat during the Khaenriah era.
LostMyZone2026-01-22 18:37
I mean biologically they are that old. However, they did spend a large portion of it in stasis, so their mental and emotional age might be questionable.
Biologically they are billions of years old. Mentally however...they are probably a lot younger.
leoycchan2026-01-22 18:38
The Travelers may have traveled the stars for millions of years, but it might be possible that they’ve been in hibernation for most of the time. So perhaps only when the ship reached a planet would they be woken up to land and interact or colonize.
nova10002026-01-22 19:12
I would say that it is rather a fact that most of the time were asleep, the skin lore mentions that the AI of the ship made several landings but most of the time it did not wake them up, it was even frustrated that it did not find a suitable planet after traveling light years
leoycchan2026-01-22 19:15
Yeah it is guaranteed that they were asleep during the traveling, but I’m not sure if they spent centuries on each planet or if they were only there for a short while.
nova10002026-01-22 19:19
If I remember the traveler mentions that teyvat is the planet he/she has been on the longest, they usually did not stay long, which makes sense if the objective was to look for a planet to revive their world of origin it is better one without natives to avoid conflicts
Drayachyika2026-01-22 19:17
Colonize... Aether and Lumine be British 🇬🇧
Matthew2902026-01-23 01:55
innit! gonna start calling em trav'luh from now on
WonderSuperior2026-01-22 19:27
Traveler could also be implying that Dottore's form of "freezing" would be similar enough to their ship putting them in stasis so they wouldn't age while being "frozen" and could be that way for millions of years without problem.
ChChChillian2026-01-22 19:37
If they have acutally "traversed many worlds" as they claimed at least once, then even if they spend the journey between stars in hibernation they still might be thousands of years old in real time. It takes a long time to fully explore a world, let alone many.
The_Gravity_cat2026-01-23 00:41
One of the earliest hints of their longevity was all the way back in Sumeru.
Nahida (possessing Katheryne) and Traveler visit Nabiya who reads Traveler’s fortune. The health option indicates them living on for “many tens of thousands of years”. Despite not believing it herself and blaming her cats for fumbling the reading, Paimon states it was probably the most accurate reading she’s ever made.
While I am unsure if being in stasis for a good chunk of their journey through space counts for their overall lifespan, their potential lifespan while not in stasis is pretty apparent as far as I’m concerned.
Bonus: There’s also a “love” option with Nabiya which indicates Traveler has the habit of making people fall for them for them en masse. While I don’t think it’s necessarily always romantic, Dottore briefly asks whether everyone Traveler associates with undergoes a drastic change in temperament - specifically referring to Sandrone being less selfish. He later points out that Traveler slowly ingratiates themselves into each society they visit. So I think they can influence people in some way.

I point the (maybe) obvious one out: They look like children/maybe 11/early teens by BODY size.
Not that Teyvat have something like an ID card/birth certificate to prove someones age (at least we haven´t seen one). Yes, Citlali, Furina, Scara and some others are WAY older than they look (then I wonder why they let Venti drink....or they really do know that he is Barbatos/an Archon?), or I think they don´t really like alcohol.
