Why is the Traveler starting to talk more?

Not that I mind, I like hearing Lumine's beautiful voice, but I'm also just used to either Paimon talking for them or they talk but it's not voiced so them starting to talk more in Nod Krai was something I enjoyed and I hope will be continued in the rest of the Nations but why are they starting to talk more?

this was actually a big complaint for a lot of players. most people don't want a silent protagonist that can act as a self insert. they want a voiced main character with personality.

I like to think that Paimon was teaching them the local language, and now they're out of the silent stage of learning and can speak more fluently.

I assume it's because Hoyo got plenty of feedback from players stating they wanted to hear Traveler more. They've slowly been doing more with Traveler for a while now (thinking of like in Sumeru and Fontaine where we had those parts where we were in Traveler's thoughts trying to reason things out, for instance) but it's only now in Nod-Krai where it's become pretty obvious. I'm glad to see it, I just wish it hadn't taken so long that it's still weird to hear them suddenly speak out loud.

Well before they didn’t know the language well it’s why Paimon did the majority of the talking plus she was the one who taught them the language of Teyvat. Over time they became more fluent but that’s just my assumption not a fact.

Knowing that hoyo always goes an extra mile in Genshin to make sure everything has some lore explanation, I wouldn't be surprised if there's some lore reason for this one too (but for now it's a mystery; I just refuse to believe it was simply "because people asked")

Mark my words, if they ever add a skip button, it will be in form of Varka's passive ability

Traveler canonically picked up Teyvat's native language really quickly, so it definitely wasn't an issue with fluency. I think this is a case of Hoyo actually just taking player feedback, combined with a way of portraying the Traveler's increasing attachment/involvement with the world.

Start talking more vs Having a more voice dialogue is different.

In reality it is because of the Silent Protagonist Set up. If the Protagonist has a voice that sounds nothing like you, You cannot self insert yourself into the character. This is a common thing in self inserts. So hoyo just does what everyone else does. Have Silent Self Insert.

However, things are changing. Gacha games with voiced dialogue are becoming more common. Genshin has really started a new generation of Gacha games. And with new generation comes with new players. Players start to play gacha games want more voice dialogue and to some newer ones no voice is a turn off. So as the gacha space evolve people wanted the MC no longer be a self insert but a character. It isn't there yet. Closest one I played of character not being self insert is R1999 with Vertin. But they are going into the right step of starting giving the MC voice and more prominent history and lore to them.

One thought I've had is about the line in Nicole's introduction, "To remain silent is to be the observer of the World" - I don't know if there's any particularly strong evidence for it being the case, but there are potentially some interesting lore implications around their position as a witness vs. belonging to the world, especially given >!the abyss sibling belonging to the world/wanting the traveler to go on a journey, the traveler telling Columbina that they saw Teyvat as home after she reflects on her experiences making her name hers, and Dottore seemingly managing to use some amount of time power on the traveler the second time around!<(various AQ spoilers).

It's actually good the Traveler is talking more rather than Paimon being the mouthpiece all the time. It felt like we were actually interacting with characters at those important moments instead of through a proxy character.

It’s so much better that the traveler is voiced. We always had lines for them but mother was ever said. It always felt really awkward and I hated Paimon feeling more like the main character than the traveler did.

Probably saw with the en VA situation that having one character do so much of the work makes them beholden to someone, like paimons en va stuff reached Chinese audiences so something had to change. If they split it between traveller and paimon it splits the risk.
